The last album of Lana's that I would consider "jumped around a lot" in terms of sound was a certain 2010 release that's very, very important to me...

Fans of Lana Del Rey have noticed a slight change in her demeanour recently - the winking, the smiling, the dancing.

"I'm in a good mood," she tells Newsbeat after her slot at Radio 1's Big Weekend. "I'm really enjoying the shows I've been doing."

Her new album, Lust For Life, is completed and comes out in July.

"Regardless of how reviews go, I wanted to make songs I'd have fun singing for the next couple of years," she says.
"It took me two years to make this record."

Declan McKenna's guide to being a pop star Fans have noticed a difference in her stage presence too. She's added dancing and choreography with her backing singers, which she says took "a good six weeks" to learn.

It does seem to add up to a usually shy pop star enjoying herself on and off stage.

Sonically, she says the sound of Lust For Life "jumps around a lot".

"It mixes a more acoustic sound to a heavier beatsy darker sound that's similar to Born To Die."

She admits it's a "really long record" and says she "couldn't leave anything out". It extends to 18 tracks.

People have already heard the title track, Lust For Life, her duet with The Weeknd, a singer she's worked with numerous times.

She says he has "a one of a kind" voice and has "perfect pitch, perfect everything".
Another anticipated collaboration is her track with legendary Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks, who went to high school with her producer, Rick Nowels.

"I felt like I really wanted a woman on the record. We called her (Stevie Nicks) and she agreed.

"I can't remember the last time I was so nervous in the studio. I'm nervous on stage but there's no reason to be nervous in the studio.

"She was looking at me through the double paned glass and I thought, 'Don't choke.' I did my little riff… and I choked!"

Back in February, Lana asked her Twitter followers to follow a spell against US President Donald Trump, saying that the "ingredients can be found online".

It was all done with a wink and smile but the instructions took people to a list of items including "an unflattering photograph of Donald Trump, a bowl of water and a tiny stub of an orange candle".

"I guess I was alluding to the fact that I just hope nothing really crazy happens (during his Presidency).

"It was a binding spell against chaos. I guess it could be working because it could be more chaotic than right now… although it's hard to imagine that."

I think she was annoyed/nervous because of her mic while she was trying to keep up with her vocals. I hope this doesn't scare her of doing any other live stream

Maybe I'm in the minority with this opinion, but this show wasn't really my thing

Lana looked gorgeous, but in my opinion, she seemed distracted/bored with the material, and didn't seem as warm and open as she has lately. I'm sure the mic problems weren't helping at all, but I am just a little bit underwhelmed.

    Hot thread wow

    Honeymoon was... so different.
I remember waiting for the damn record...first it was the title track on that lyric book from endless summer... then the title track release and I kinda hated it lol.

It's funny how I disliked all of the singles at first (I LOVED the title "Music to Watch Boys To" but the song was so meh for me when it was released...) but then, when listening to the whole thing, I felt like it really fit together. Unpopular Opinion but i LOVE the album cover so much. The original and the vinyl exclusive one. I think it's gorgeous and it matches perfectly with the album.

Some lyics from the album are really special and one of my fav lines ever "Lies can buy eternity" came from the record so....

I just think it was sad how the whole thing ran so fast... we waiting for such a long time and the whole thing happened in a blink. I really expected more after the freak premiere...rip.

anyway: Swan Song, Terrence Loves You, Music to Watch Boys To, The Blackest Day, Religion...

the only song I skip for real is 24

    My interpretation:

Lana is embodying Peg Entwistle (a famous US entertainment star in the 1930s who famously jumped off the Hollywood sign). The video starts off with the storm inside Lana's eyes, foreshadowing the chaotic war in her mind she is so known for. The video then pans onto a stage where Lana is dancing and singing (to represent Peg who started as a successful Broadway star). It then pans to the second part of Peg's life, a lot more tragic, as she moved to Hollywood to try to make it big on the silver screen - Lana runs into the analog noise on screen toward Hollywood. However, due to the hardship of failing stardom there, Peg becomes disillusioned with life after trying to make it in Hollywood. Lana is now in Hollywood, facing that same disillusion as she climbs the Hollywood sign.

I see the entire sequence atop the Hollywood sign as a dance between living with the mindset that you were Born To Die or living with a Lust For Life. There is tension between Abel and Lana, but also love and lust which Abel is on the side of. Lana makes a break for it and wants to end her life even after Abel is trying to show her the joys of life, converting her ribbon into a dreamy mystical sailboat. Lana sees the end of the Hollywood sign as the end of her "run" in Hollywood and life.Peg would've jumped here, as would anyone who had become too distraught and dark about their own life or the chaos of the world around them - much like the chaos of our modern times.

But, Abel is there to catch her and reminds her of the joy and love in life. She turns the end of Hollywood sign (a symbol of death) on it's head, converting it into the frivolous and childish act of swinging down the slide - thus embracing life with a symbol of birth and youth, which has two conclusions
    a) ends in death, we will all die anyway, but her joy is immortalised b) or is her entering the world again after withdrawing, and being ready to embrace life's limitless possibilities
