Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread

Recommended Posts

It took only a few months for her to basically turn LFL into something that clearly wasn't planned when they began the era so girls and gays at this point anything is possible. Wouldn't surprise me at all if she actually rename the record due to legal reasons, changed the overall genre and vibe while she was at it and half-assed the whole thing like she did with LFL, when a small photoshoot behind the scenes of a video was somehow album photoshoot worthy. Even after 7 years I swear to god I wouldn't hesitate to unstan if the photoshoot of this record was done during an iPhone music video filming and featured those foreground dancers of hers.  :horror:

gays forcing themselves to cherish Cinnamon as her best track off of NFR already since it's the only upbeat track they've heard they can shake their ass to

Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino teas with most of the fans saying Four Out Of Five is the best one just because isn't as slow and mellow as the rest of the album  :deadbanana: like how tf can you say FOOF is the best one when we have American Sports?  :crossed:

what are chances lana would get in any type of legal trouble for naming her album norman fucking rockwell? reading articles has got me thinking she could potentially get sued for something along the lines misuse/destruction of name and likeness (not that i think thats what shes doing, just thats how american law would see it) she or her management would have to have legal rights to use his name

i dont think the album was completed when she announced that would be the title, so... im starting to think maybe she had to rename it  :biblio:

What she's done with the album title would absolutely qualify as a form of protected free speech. It's not libelous or slanderous, it's a transformative work and to some degree, a parody, all of which are considered acceptable use cases.

The problem would come if she used some of his art in a non-transformative way without licensing it (for the album cover, for instance). If she did, the estate would be within their legal right to sue. I doubt that would happen, though.

She’s never said it’s about the Norman Rockwell everyone is talking about. A name can’t be copyright or protected as such. She actually just said it’s about a boyfriend who thinks he’s really brilliant and can’t stop talking about what a genius he is. So isn’t even about Norman Rockwell. But obviously we know there is a meaning behind it. But in a court of law unless she’s making specific claims about him and obviously referencing him or slanderous (which she isn’t) then I cannot see a problem. Same with Ultraviolence which is a term from A Clockwork Orange - she doesn’t actually reference anything from the book or imply it’s from there directly.

I mean she could have an album called Michael Fucking Jackson and the MJ estate wouldn’t be able to do a thing.

Thom Fucking Yorke would be a power move

I was listening to 13 Beaches and i hear similarities to Sylvia Plath. in the line "if i was tested less like" in Sylvia Plath, its similar to "almost all the time" in 13 Beaches. i can already feel that build up

Well let’s hope that they’re not that similar because the chorus of 13 Beaches literally reuses the same melody from the verses so :flop:

I am super curious about the rest of this track. The lyrics are very good from what we've heard, and i want to hear the rest of the production.
