Wynwood 19,967 Posted October 30, 2018 John met me down by the boulevard I cried on his shoulder cause life is hard The waves came in over my head Whatcha been up to my baby? Havent seen you round here lately All of the guys tell me lies but you dont You just grab another beer and pretend that you're still here This is how to disappear This how to disappear Jim met me down at the training yard With cuts on his face cause he fought too hard I know he's in over his head But I love that man like nobody can He moves mountains and makes them into ground again And I watch the guys getting high As they fight for the things that they hold dear To forget the things they fear This how they disappear This how they disappear Well now its been years since I left New York and I got a kid and two cats in the yard The California sun and the movie stars And I watch the skies getting light as I write As I think about those years And I whisper in your ear I'm always going to be right here No ones going anywhere I'm always going to be right here No ones going anywhere
American Whore 51,312 Posted October 30, 2018 The lyrics are telling me that no matter where Lana is, wherever she goes, she will always have the memories. I think that would be the initial meaning behind these lyrics. She may be in Cali but she'll always have her NY roots. Ugh it's kinda heartbreaking but I love it so much.. I love that we got another Jim song John met me down by the boulevard I cried on his shoulder cause life is hard The waves came in over my head Whatcha been up to my baby? Hannus 1,618 Posted October 30, 2018 And think about those years And I whisper in your ear “I’m always going to be right here Nobody’s going anywhere I’m always going to be right here Nobody’s going anywhere” these lines remind me of a weird movie i watched where someone was talking about memories and he was like "nothing really goes away, it's always here", and that really stuck with me, i think about it very often. so hearing those last lines being sung by Lana is really moving 2 Quote I never meant to be bad or unwell I was just living on the edge right between heaven and hell & I'm tired of it

nabokov 52 Posted October 30, 2018 I've always loved how Lana captures NY in her songs. Reminds me of Greenwich village in the 60s.

Thunder Revenant 20,943 Posted October 30, 2018 Kind of feel like the John-verse is BTD/P (the beer-line alluding to VG and the overall mood of crying on someone's shoulder cause life is hard) and the Jim verse is UV-related (the name being used, the man noone can love, violence) and then in the end there's the more mature Lana 11 Quote Just do it.
