COCCARCH is a month of peace and unity... let's celebrate as a chorus.... YOU'RE IN THE WIND I'M IN THE WATER giphy.gif?cid=ecf05e479e3655f738e0739841

anyways, what to YOU is the track(s) you're most intrigued about? not necessarily what you're anticipating the most, but what ignites your curiosity??

for me probably NAWWAL, dark but just a game, and yosemite because i'm very interested to see what they'll sound like and what the melody will be

Not you and me trying to cheer everyone up lol I feel like Wild at Heart will be something very different from what she's ever done before and we are going to be surprised!

Can we keep it a little more generic then mods? How does the forum feel about singles releasing a week before a record drops? If she was gonna release ANY song (even my treasured Yosemite) as a single so close to the album release I’d say she can keep it until the whole thing comes out. I think I personally could muster up a week of willpower to experience COCC in full :holla:

What else are we gonna discuss? Feels like we can’t talk about anything anymore when miss LDR ain’t feeding us :tea:

(If this is ~problematic~ let me know, truly don’t mean to be rewd)

Well, I'd like to wait until the whole thing. Very few artists release a single a few days before the album, but it's very common for Lana.

The title track for Born to Die came out one month before the album (smart choice).

Brooklyn Baby and Ultraviolence (song) were released less than 10 days before the album (at the end of the day it was a smart choice because both songs were very discussed and successful, dare I say viral, and UV was later an official single)

Music to Watch Boys To one week before Honeymoon; the album wasn't as popular among the GP and critics so it was more of a fan gift or whatever. Didn't make any noise.

Summer Bummer and Groupie Love like 10 days before Lust for Life, that was smart because they feature A$AP Rocky.

Every NFR! single was acclaimed left and right, and then Fuck It I Love You and The Greatest came out one week before the album and we know they were universally loved :gclap:

As for White Dress, nobody's moving for this album so maybe the single + the (hopefully) good video will hype people and critics a bit.

Don’t know if this was already discussed, but Lana recently followed this photographer on IG...it would be AMAZING if they did a shoot together...her work is amazing https://instagram.com/nadialeelee?igshid=1657fbbnesxup

She looks to be heavily inspired by David LaChapelle's work who Lana has been photographed by before

Ooh I would love a shoot with her! Something like this one could be cute

Her work is very campy but I love it :flutter: She could really play into the country club rich extravagant lifestyle vibe

I’m really curious what song is going to be about Florida. I know it’s not going to be a Florida Kilos2.0 but I’m exited for Florida culture to be brought back for one song

probably white dress since she sings about orlando in it right?

it will be nice to have all of the songs not be about LA though, even though norman makes for the perfect soundtrack when walking around here :bebe:

It's actually not that rare since like 2018 to release a buzz-single close to release, especially for "album artists".

Just do it. Just do it - don't wait!

Well yeah, and there aren't many album artists nowadays.

I can’t possibly see the logic behind LMLYLAW as a single, I’m sorry. Terrible choice. It falls so flat and will only sound good in the context of the album.

I agree. Plus nobody moved.

I think that's a pretty biased assumption. Not in  mainstream pop, nah, most huge artist in that genre release a lot of singles because that works best with Streaming.

But a lot of alternative/ indie pop artists, aswell as artists from other genres like folk, blues, and certain subcategories of rock are still really focussed on albums.

Just do it. Just do it - don't wait!

She probably decided to scrap the whole music video for white dress and reshoot it knowing Lana.  But I get confused by the lack of transparency...as if she’s Beyoncé or something. Nobody really cares about her dropping music accept us, she’s not really a chart artist. So I don’t understand all the secrecy, not like she’s coming for a hot 100 number 1. She could drop it any time, any day and the result would be the same.

i'm also very excited for wild at heart, i reread the mojo article just now and a few quotes really stood out to me:

  • "Wild At Heart and the title track (...) hint at something unattainable."
  • "Hence country twangs (on Wild At Heart and Nikki Lane duet Breaking Up Slowly)"

i'm super interested to see how the themes from chemtrails and wild at heart connect, i feel like based on the title alone i can feel how the wildness of each track would intertwine! wild at heart gives me red car, flying through the clouds, ivy and vines, valleys and plains, running through the fields sort of energy

  • "Not All Who Wander Are Lost – a song whose sky-high trill reminds Del Rey of 'Cinderella in the movie where she's holding the blue-bird' – romanticises wanderlust."

also this part, i was thinking about it more after linking a bunch of aurora songs and somewhere over the rainbow yesterday as a similar vibe – i know this isn't cinderella but cinderella doesn't actually sing that high i'm pretty sure... :bebe: so maybe she was thinking more like this with the bluebird

Spoiler

and naturally because i love to share and the post is already long and annoying enough :lanahairflip:... some other quotes that stand out to me:

Spoiler

"If For Free is the record's presiding spirit, you can also feel the vibrations of Mitchell's Cactus Tree, a song that acknowledges the hard work of 'being free' – shedding compromise, swerving control."

"Dark But Just A Game is so her to me... fly down the rabbit hole and smile in the same breath." (giving me alice in wonderland thank you jack)

"Chemtrails over the Country Club appears to reveal a more vulnerable Del Rey: lighter on the LA menance, more innocently emotional: 'We did it for fun/We did it for free,' she sings sweetly on the song Yosemite, 'we did it for the right reasons.' It's an album that looks at the road ahead, but also, back to where she's come from, making her strongest connection yet with her antecendents."

"That looseness – a willingness to wander – feels more present on Chemtrails than previous albums, yet she insists it has been 'so much harder than any other record I've made."

"Del Rey has long used Los Angeles to colour and contour her songs. But Chemtrails roves further – Tulsa, Nebraska, Florida – a fitting backcloth for a record about freedom in a world where everything has a price."

"and a tentative reorientation away from manicured lawns and towards wilder terrain: Yosemite, and the storied canyons of L.A."
