The thing which I will never understand is why in the actual fuck people underrate Text Book so much? This is literally an incredible song and one of the best from the record :oprah:

the chorus isn't good sonically:eek3:

This is such an astute comment. I get some critics being overwhelmed by the number of places/people/names referenced, but none of them that I've seen have even bothered to look into the surface level of a lot of the songs - they've just picked out some phrases and dealt with those. Have you even seen anybody pick up what Cherry Blossom is talking about, even aside from the deeper context of Lana's life? Or thought about what it means to say that only one item of clothing fits her, beyond joking about how they also put on weight over the pandemic? I don't expect them to care about what she's trying to say, but it would be nice if they at least tried to figure out the basic meanings of the songs.

Omg the amount of reviews I've seen mention pandemic weight gain in Black Bathing Suit and then move on to a different track blows my mind. This is like the track that they should be analyzing deeply considering it's a full drag of them, but instead they're just like wow Lana is so relatable singing about clothing sizes. :um2:

I would never think to call the color blue “wild and fucking crazy,” so that line will always intrigue me :crossed:

In Lana's world I would say the colour blue is pretty wild and fucking crazy LOL she has used it throughout her whole discography to describe so many different emotions, some positive, some negative, so I love this acknowledgement in the song that the colour blue is all over the place in her world.

What if Lana is colorblind and all this time she's been seeing blue as some other random ass color, like Yellow or something? :wowcry:

After several listens, I think that my top 5 definitely includes Text Book, Blue Banisters, Black Bathing Suit and Sweet Carolina but the fifth spot is up for grabs at the moment. This is a significantly stronger album that COCC. It's less accessible and "likable" at first but ends up being a richer and deeply moving experience. I am surprised by how well the UV outtakes fit here. I wonder if Wildflower Wildfire's distorted drums were intentionally used as they transition to the rougher rawer demo-esque feel of the last quarter of the album. Anyway, Black Bathing Suit is one of the most important songs Lana has ever written, and may be the key song to unlocking and understanding the entire album. It's such an emotional, lyrical and sonic journey.
