Random Lana Discussion Thread

The song that sounded a bit similar to video games was from Helen Vitali she is really well known and respected in Greece.

Β

Β

This German song sounds identical to MAC thoughΒ Β :toofunny:

Yeah, she was real lucky no lawsuit was filed-see this song further below:

Β

you can sing wild at heart over it

Β

Β

IfΒ Radiohead couldn’t successfully sue her forΒ Get Free, I doubt Lana would have been sued for this. The MAC situation makes more sense. They sound very similar.Β

Not to start another Jack hate narrative but he always uses the most basic chord progressions it's only natural thatΒ there are a hundred similar songs out there with a similar guitar workΒ :thumb3:

Β

No one could replicate Rick's guitar on Yosemite for exampleΒ :creepna2:Β (only themselves on Dragon SlayerΒ :thumb2:)

The Peter schilling song has an exact vocal melody and production setup-there’s electric guitar and other production sounds in the same places πŸ’€-it’s more than chords

I know but you usually write the melody according to the chords you're using so it makes sense for it to be similar too and it's only part of the verses. I actually think that chorus is better than the MAC oneΒ :thumb2:

Β

It's the same situation asΒ the countless songs sounding like Last Christmas while being unreleated to it.

MAC sounding like some song from a random nobody is nowhere nearly as bad asΒ Get Free/CreepΒ :et:

I askedΒ Asmodeus (the demon of lust) to make Miley Cyrus suffer. I am not happy with these new developments. After Miley rips off Lana's aesthetic, she bullies Lana into changing her release date. It is infuriating.Β

I haven’t read the interview but I doubt it. Doubt Courtney even thinks it.Β
Β

but, to be fair, when UV was out, with its unapologetic lyrics, with her weird interviews (whether she was misquoted or not), with its tragic undertone, I was sure that by the time she was 40, we’d find that Lana had ODed or something on her bathroom floorΒ :bebe:Β Glad I was mistaken though and all her other albums after that reassured me.Β

And this is still one of my fears (not an OD) but that something bad will happen to Lana and she won’t be with us anymore. So that’s why the comparison triggered me.

Β

I know Courtney was praising her. Mentioning Lana’s sobriety is weird to me though, because even though she sings about it in her songs at times she’s never explicitly spoke about sobriety.Β
Β

Still think CL is a legend of course, but I hate when people mess with Lana!Β
Β

I meant no harm in my previousΒ post <3Β

Wasn't it Lana's uncle who taught her to play the guitar and to "write a million songs with just six chords"?

off topic but I’m hoping for no more macΒ situations on Oceans, there was a lot of retro singer songwriter inspo on her Jack records which could have lead to lawsuits due to similar melodies/progressions.

girl this is literally the same song but in germanΒ :mj:Β i cant believe it.Β

Β

even thoughΒ the same chord progression is used inΒ get free & creep, i didn’t hear enough similaritiesΒ for radiohead to sue lana. but this…this is sueΒ worthy. it’s not just the chord progression it’s the same melody and riffs

Unrelated to MAC, but a huge amount of Lana’s work used some variationΒ of a progression like Am-F-C-G, so recycling one of the most common progressions isn’tΒ anything new or specific to Jack:bebe:

Β

I’m not aΒ huge Jack fan, but personally, there seems to be just as muchΒ work if not more fromΒ before Jack that bears melodic similaritiesΒ to other artists’ work (Old Money, Video Games, Get Free, etc.).Β

I think that this will be less common as Lana’s artistry progresses as she seems to delve more into less conventional melodic structures, and BoZ seems to indicate this about TUOB as well!
Β

Comparisons will always be drawn, but I do think Lana’s headed toward a more distinct melodic sound with her next record:brows:

It’s interesting you mention last Christmas because I cannot hear one similarity between creep and get free-different genres, different vocal styles, different pace but I hear last Christmas in get free one hundred percent.

Chord progressions are always reused-there’s clear similarities between blue jeans and wicked game but it’s clearly not a rip off-it’s about melody and the style of the song more than anything but yes-let’s see what ocean brings πŸ™

I don't think Get Free was "sue-worthy" per say, but besides Old Money,Β its the most glaringly obvious example in her entire catalog. I cannot listen to that song without thinking about Creep. MAC is a close third.

the same chord progression is used in this partΒ

Β but that’s why i never got the comparison because the rest of get free is SO different, i mean one song is rock the other is like dream pop/folk. the overall instrumental and melody just soundΒ completely different, i never understood why she got sued for it.Β

yes the chord progression/β€œweirdo” & β€œmanifesto” melodyΒ in the chorus isΒ the same but that’s literally it…i’ve listened to both songs so many times and just never heard what people were talking about. creep is such an iconic popular song, it’s natural for music that comes after it to sound a bit similarΒ
