I'm surprised Billie went home with nothing, especially considering how big HMHAS was and how critics loved it. I really thought at least best pop vocal would've been locked in for her. I guess she's not a grammys darling anymore. I'm glad Short n' Sweet won though, I rlly loved that album (Ariana was most deserving but whatever). Taylor not going home with anything either feels correct. TTPD was just not that great and I'm glad they didn't just throw awards at it because of its high sales count. That Fortnight song being nominated in those categories in the first place was silly.

I LOVED Billie's album, but I'm glad Cowboy Carter won. That record was more epic whereas Billie's was a tad short and a bit front-loaded.

 

She shoulda won song for Birds of a Feather, though. Snubbing Taylor was also a god-send, that girl is overrated af.

 

Now, the big crime for me is that Lana didn't get a Grammy for Best New Artist (who even did?) or Best Pop Album for BTD, whereas Chappel and Sabrina both got their flowers on their first try. At this point, the artists should collectively boycot the Grammies until Lana gets one. There, I said it.

personally what the fuck is cowboy Carter the singles were beyond shit and it’s a wonder that people praised them, which I solely believe is because it’s coming from Beyoncé. I’m done with this Beyoncé GLAZE like she has some hits, lots of talent BUT cowboy Carter just ain’t that good

I’m shocked on the cowboy carter front, I actually loved the record but I played it obsessively and then one day I got bored and literally I NEVER revisit it 

 

Billie’s HMHAS seems more deserving to me because I go back to that record often and was actually consumed by it..

I mean, she's been singing and giving it her all for about 40 years. The fact that they never gave her AOTY is, frankly, shocking. She could have won for Beyonce or Lemonade or Reneissance, but she didn't. Basically, she was overdo. And I prefer Billie as an artist.
 

To me, it's just like black women never wining Lead Actress at the Oscars, for some "mysterious" reason. The first and last time was Halle Berry. Can you f-ing believe that? Like, seriously?

I totally agree on the former, she had other albums which were most definitely worthy, but cowboy carter wasn’t it (even though I really did love the record).. the album just didn’t have that much impact and longevity. She may be overdue, but giving her it after Jay-Z threw a huff last year feels insincere, like a sympathy Grammy.. 

 

and yup I’m letting my personal taste intervene with my Billie recommendation for the win, in reality, everyone is right, Brat probably was much more deserving because of its international impact.. I just never listened as it’s not my type of music.. but I saw the impact it had on everyone 

 

love that Kendrick swept though, considering his snubs in the past.. but I think his work this year has had a pretty high impact too

Brat had a big cultural impact, yes. But that's a dance record that really appealed to the young crowd, club-goers, etc. I don't think it was worthy of AOTY. Dance record of the year, sure.

 

And like I said, Hit Me Hard and Soft had about 8 tracks only, a few of which were just not on the level of others (as much as I adore the album and think it's Billie's best so far).

 

CC was a big sprawling record appealing to all generations, with ballads, country, covers, bops, etc. and it just had more going for it. The moment I heard it in full, I knew it will win AOTY.

 

The production on it was pure fire too. Still not over the bass on Bodyguard...I'm probably in the minority, but CC truly deserved this imo.

I enjoyed cowboy carter the first two weeks it was out but it’s really cool to see a black woman making a successful mainstream country album. It’s a shame she hasn’t won an AOTY until today because I think she has stronger albums imo
 

I kinda felt bad for Billie because this was the first album she genuinely felt proud of. I think people forget how young she is. I don’t think she deserved to sweep this year, but I think she should’ve won something for birds of a feather at least.
 

Anyways sad to see artists like Ari and obviously Lana getting snubbed every year at the Grammys, but it’s not the end of the world it’s just an award show at the end of the day. It’s still impressive Billie has received so many nominations and awards so I’m happy to see other artists get their flowers and recognition this year <3

im shocked brat didnt win but maybe im just a bit out of the loop i feel like brat reached a lot of people who previously had no interest in charli and cowboy carter was listened to by mainly beyonce fans. it’s a great record but it didn’t scream impact the way brat did in my head
