The Right Person Will Stay - Pre-Release Thread (OUT: May 21st, 2025)

Recommended Posts

only pathological liar Lana could announce an album for a random Wednesday in May and get 339+ pages dedicated to the one post.

I’ve always felt like this was a June or July album but maybe it’ll be an August or September album

Nothing is coming. She would have teased and marketed it for this festival along with the upcoming tour. We are delusional to think she will debut a song at stagecoach. It’s time we accept we are in a deep, unknown drought with no end in sight. If she was confident or in love with the country songs she made she would have put them out in the last 1.5 years. We need to accept where we are. These are uncertain times but it’s better to embrace that than be delusional and think she’s hiding a surprise. :charli:

I wish she had just said she’s working on new music not a whole ass album and singles to be expected. I would love to see a surprise album from her that would heal me from all this

Gurl, she said she was working on an album for FIVE YEARS.

She could not have raised expectations higher for this project from the get-go.

She should have kept it quiet until she was done. The classsiest thing would have been saying "I'm working on a new album, thanks for asking. You'll hear it when I'm done, whatever that day might be," and then just shut up about it. Not given two different faux dates and two different single promises.

Her/Interscope's PR team really need to have a word with her.

In Lana's defense, she was correct about the music industry going country. Bey dropped Cowboy Carter, Posty dropped F-1 Trillion, Calvin Harris is releasing a country album (where he's the vocalist, first single dropped today) and Chappell just released 'The Giver', her foray into country (though this may end up being just a single country-esque track and not a full album of country songs). There are other artist flipping country, but they are not as surprising such as Gwenny Gwen Gwen and Elle King. Shit, even Ringo Starr released a country album in January of this year (though, I don't consider him to be that relevant anymore.)

At this point, Lana is not ahead of the curve, as much as she is following the industry. I wonder if this shift in the music industry has made her hesitant to release a country album now. I mean, she was well aware of it when she made her comment during her acceptance speech. Maybe it's a combination of a huge change in her life (getting married) and the industry becoming oversaturated with country music nowadays.

Her silence speaks volumes though.... 'crickets'

She as much as said, and over a year ago, that the industry embracing country music has had an influence on Lasso and TRPWS and her ambivalence about them. So that's not speculation. What we don't know is how much of Lasso was tossed or rewritten, or how much Lasso was altered or reconceived in the process of turning it into TRPWS. And maybe she's reconceived TRPWS again since the last announcement.

Who cares if the industry is going country as a trend? As the oldest form of American music, anyone doing a country album at any time isn't much of an original idea, regardless of what genre they're associated in the public mind. Who cares if some critic or fan says, "Lana's jumping on the country bandwagon!" It should be a non-issue.

Yeah, I agree with you, it shouldn't matter. I grew up on classic country. As a teenager and young adult I veered as far away as I could to get away from country. Grunge, Industrial, became a raver in my 20s, then segued into DnB, Jungle, Jazz, Hip-Hop and Trip-Hop. Now as a middle-aged adult artists like Orville Peck and Charlie Crockett have reignited a fondness for old-style country music that I grew up on. I'm excited to hear Lana's take on country. I actually feel like her storytelling and singing style will fit the genre really well. Obviously, none of us know what is going on in Lana's life nowadays or what she's thinking regarding the release of TRPWS, and we know she loves to change her mind during pre-release cycles. I'm just throwing ideas against the wall in an attempt to understand why she's been so silent since announcing that two singles were on their way and TRPWS is releasing in May.
