Unpopular Lana Opinions

ALSO: Lust For Life really gets a bad wrap with the fandom. This was a really ambitious record for her and it felt like she had some messages she really wanted to get across. There's a unifying feeling about the album that I really enjoy and makes for sweet listening.

 

Change is the essential song of the album to me, because it sort of encompasses everything I feel she was trying to do and say with the album.

I love how she completely changed Beautiful People from a song about suicide, to a song about empowering humanity - it really felt like a big warm hug to us for her to do that. It's inspiring tbh.

Plus Get Free too, there's another record where I feel like she was showcasing change and healing. I really appreciate the album a lot for these moments alone.

 

Also, Tomorrow Never Came is truly a beautiful song. It feels like a song from the 60s-70s in that, it's such a simple yet beautifully written song that could be from that era of music. The Sean Lennon feature was everything and a moment I'm sure for Lana herself! The chorus and bridge to this song is EVERYTHING. This song gives me chills tbh.

 

Then we have the songs on that album that feel like CLASSIC Lana, like Cherry, 13 Beaches, Heroin, and LOVE. Though Love is not well liked from what I've seen, it was a great lead for the album it's on, a very lighthearted single from Lana I think we all needed that at the time. 

 

All in all, it gets a really bad wrap and I'm tired! It's one of her best works. AND COACHELLA IS NOT A BAD SONG, IT IS ACTUALLY REALLY BEAUTIFUL LET'S STOP THE HATE.

Yeah, I mean you could say the same about White Dress, for which Sputnik famously said: "... a stinker of a chorus, crammed with an indecent amount of syllables and dead-on-arrival melodies memorable in the same way as, say, footage of a gull in an oilslick." Obviously, you (and I) don't hold much value or interest in purely subjective Sputnik reaction. However, one thing another critic on another magazine might have said is that Miles Davis, who can also make his trumpet sound whispery and/or straining, would be completely unfazed by jarring tempo shifts and/or sudden increases in the density of notes for the melodic line. Such a critic might have supposed Miles would have liked White Dress. Given that parallel-universe speculation, I prefer to think of her tempo-changes, and word-density increases, as jazz inflections (and she does mention Sun Ra, there). The Sputnik critic probably doesn't even know what jazz is.

This record kickstarted her extra lazy vocal performances for me-it worked for honeymoon because of the production reverb but this record was due too all over the place

this is probably my only real complaint about lana's music but i sometimes find she swears a little too much in her songs. i still very much like her songs with excessive swearing but it does feel a little bit unnecessary. i am just not a big fan of swearing in general. i am sorry if this makes me sound like a grandma & i dearly hope this opinion does not offend anyone here.

Don't kill me but fuck I don't like Taylor, and I don't understand this collaboration :noparty:. It doesn't make sense unless Lana wants more success. Taylor is bland and uninspiring. I'm not thrilled, I hope it won't drag her down musically. 

 

I miss the time when Lana worked with interesting musicians, and I put The Weeknd in the pile. The 2 were commercially interesting with close universes. Taylor is nothingness, nothing happens. She can do better :toofunny:. I would still listen to the title because after all they may surprise me but I don't expect anything.

 

This is my opinion, don't take it as an offense because I respect your choices. You guys are lucky, your time is finally coming, you must be so happy.

 

I would have liked a duet between her and Marina. But business and business. :toofunny:

LMAOOOO, I like some of Taylor's work but I don't enjoy Lana collabing with people (usually), because I don't think her voice meshes with lots of current "artists". I did like Breaking Up Slowly though :true:

I think they're friends so it makes sense for them to want to work together

Hot reaction :D Like you, I love Lana alone most of the time. But sometimes her collaborations when they are well chosen can give (very) good songs. And yes, she has a particular voice that is difficult to mix, and it's a shame to spoil it :toofunny:

Let's be honest, Lana's last two albums and Taylor's last two albums have a similar vibe, song writing over melody and catchyness, not to mention the mellow and down to earth tone. They go together in 2022. Lana isn't unpredictable anymore, we predicted Blue Banisters perfectly and her next album will probably be similar. Gone is the edgy Lana which was collabing with the Weeknd. Lana and Weekend collabing in 2022 wouldn't make sense. it

I mean it's a challenge, but hopefully Taylor isn't going to "Cat Power" her, and with Antonoff having a good working relationship with both, I think that's unlikely. It's an interesting vindication piece for LDR to be in the limelight with pop's chief it-girl.  It will be interesting to see whether LDR's egalitarian-esque feature-production-preferences on her own turf transfers over when on Taylor's home turf. The Grande/Cyrus/Rey thing, while not a capstone of modern music, at least worked out ok. It also occurs to me that a May Jailer vs. Taylor Swift sonic "fight" would be a really interesting thing to try to pull off (and witness), but I'd give that about a probability of zero.

Not only do I prefer the Blue Banisters version of Thunder, but it's starting to become one of my favorite Lana songs period. I just find it breathtakingly beautiful and I think the instrumentation matches it perfectly. Blue Banisters in general has really started to grow on me this month. It feels so cozy and familiar.

Lana can continue making albums in the vein of Honeymoon, Norman, Chemtrails, and Blue Banisters for the rest of her career and I would be the happiest person on the planet 

 

I call them her pretty albums (even though all of her records are pretty), and I PERSONALLY prefer them because of how she beautifully paints a sublime experience of poetry and music. My favorites.
