The "Rich Whores" leak inspired me to look for more of her early stuff and I noticed something kinda neat. Remember that list of interests from Arthur Lynn's flickr?

 

 

 

music, girls, guitars, america, diet mountain dew, van halen, ice cream, photography, jersey, angiescreams, indian summer, woods, food, freckles, the sun, the moon, seasons, amplifiers, family, friends, karma, october, yo mama, yo mama's apple pie, and those little people we call doggies

 

According to this site, this was once the biography on lizzygrant.com. We've seen most of this stuff before, about the circus and whatever, but notice one more thing.

 

 

 

Lizzy Grant was born on the day of Worldly Rapture. She is inspired by Caffeine, G-d, and David Lee Roth. She spent two years as a trapese artist in a southern California circus. She’s been married four times in 5 countries. "Yo mama's apple pie?" The Arthur Lynnfluence lives on, I guess. I wouldn't be surprised if Arthur Lynn wrote that biography for her, now that I think about it. 

 

Finally, this one mystery was kind of cleared up. I wondered who the "tags & tim" listed as band members on this Sirens-era myspace page:

 

But a closer look at another myspace era page tells me they continued being her band members into the Arthur Lynn period. So they're old friends she continued playing with for a while. Kinda neat!

 

 

Continuing the Arthur Lynn info dump, I found out that "angiescreams," which was the username he used for flickr iirc, was also a band of his, and that the drummer for this band of his was also the drummer for the Rich Whores, Aaron Brooks! This band appeared to have existed from 2005 to 2009, so it overlaps with the "Rich Whores" period. I wonder if this was how Lana met Lynn? I'm especially curious about the fact that she got one of his drummers to join her band.

 

And for even more evidence that Arthur Lynn was a hugely influential boyfriend, check out the News section on that website...  "9.11.07 G-d bless America. G-d bless our troops." G-d is a pretty idiosyncratic way to spell "God," wouldn't you say? And it also shows up in that biography of Lizzy's up there! Now I really can't help but wonder if Arthur Lynn wrote that biography as a joke. Which she would be in on, of course. Or maybe their cross-pollination was so much that Lana just adopted that much of his humor, spelling, tastes, and interests.

Tags is Adam Tagliamonte, who seems to have leaked "Let My Hair Down" and was rumored to be the leaker's source for the Disco sessions and whatnot.

Yeah, the Rich Whores basically seems to have been a Lizzy-fronted version of angiescreams:

Arthur Lynn was the lead singer for Angiescreams, which at least partially shared (if not completely) the same lineup as the Phenomena/Rich Whores minus Lizzy.

Another fun fact about the drummer:

Fun fact: Lizzy's 2008 Mercury Lounge performance was as an opener for Moby's side project The Little Death, and is the basis for her claim to have shared the stage with Moby. The drummer for The Little Death was also her drummer in Lizzy Grant and the Phenomena.

But a closer look at another myspace era page tells me they continued being her band members into the Arthur Lynn period. So they're old friends she continued playing with for a while. Kinda neat!

Yeah, I don't think that's really the way it happened at all. Based on the chronology of performance photos/videos/reviews and MySpace archives/screenshots, I believe the Phenomena consisted of Tags & Tim in early 2007, by mid-2007 she had chopped her hair and completely replaced Tags & Tim with the angiescreams line-up but just didn't take their names off anything, and shortly afterwards started using the name The Rich Whores. Though it should be noted:

A: While she played a number of shows with the members of The Rich Whores/The Phenomena (a large portion of which comprised the line-up of angiescreams), the July 7, 2007 Cutting Room show was the only one billed as Lizzy Grant and the Phenomena, and only on their ReverbNation page. Every other show they played and every other reference to that show billed the band as Lizzy Grant. While a Jezebel Music write-up plugging her November 14, 2007 performance at Laila Lounge references "a full band, The Rich Whores", it does not appear the band shared billing.

A: Aside from the Cutting Room performance as Lizzy Grant and the Phenomena and the Highline Ballroom performance as Lana Del Rey and the Casinos, there is no evidence she ever billed herself as anything else. However, she did sing at a fundraiser with a band of Fordham University faculty members that billed themselves as Dr. N's Rhythm Review and she performed at house parties with a group of musicians that called themselves the Loveseat Collective.

 

If the YouTube account that leaked "Let My Hair Down" really was Tags, as seems to be the case, he supports this narrative in terms of never being part of a Phenomena lineup that involved Arthur Lynn or the angiescreams/Rich Whores lineup:

i have not personally worked with angie screams and did not know that band with Lady was called the rich whores, if it was. i cannot remember being introduced to these artists.

I never invested too much into "The Rich Whores" before simply because theres only like 1 page of it archived and I assumed it was just her having her way with crazy aliases. but with the rehearsal leaks I realise it was actually a legitimate thing

I don't have any idea where Lizzy got it from, but that spelling of God is standard among religious Jews.

So here's another Mr. Campbell dilemma. The following post mentions real but non-famous people. I don't know if I should name them or not. The problem is they've willingly put out all the information themselves, and it's not hard to find. I want to see what the ethics committee (i.e. you guys) has to say about this situation.

 

Okay, so this song, Joshy and I.

 

It leaked August 2015.

This was posted in June 2015:

So this guy says his cousin dated Lana, and that his cousin posted an instagram video backstage from a Lana concert. If you look at the instagram video, you'll see it's made by somebody called Josh. The caption: "Sometimes this happens when you ignore your gf to play World of Warcraft." Now this is a bit odd. This guy claims to be the reason Lana wrote Video Games. However, we had received "insider info"~ from the ldr.fm days (alas, I wasn't there) that the song was written about Mike Mizrahi. If you take into account that Lana said BTD, BJ, and VG are all about one guy, it gets even murkier. Here are some interviews where Lana mentions why she wrote the song (emphasis mine).[/size]

 

 

The date the song "Joshy and I" leaked with was 2011, the same year Video Games started blowing up.

 

Moreover, she said she picked the model for the BTD video based on his resemblance to a former boyfriend. Once again, hesitant to give links, but Josh's instagram shows that he is heavily tattooed.

 

So here's a crazy theory - could Josh be a guy Lana dated after Mizrahi?

 

We have a date for when Mizrahi first met Lana (January 2009 iirc) but we don't have any solid indicators of when they broke up that I know of.

 

Before Joshy and I leaked, there's a guy who says his cousin, Josh, dated Lana Del Rey (before she "became Lana"). We didn't have any clue that a Josh would be someone in the Lanaverse, so it's hard to say this is some guy BSing who happened to come up with the right name. Josh fits the description of the BTD model, who is said to be based on an ex. Could the Mizrahi relationship have ended before 2011, and could Lana have started dating Josh in 2011 (ultimately breaking up with him and then getting together with Barrie, can anyone find the earliest known reference to Lana and Barrie dating?).

 

I can't find the original tweet for the second image up there, so if anyone would like to help, that'd be swell.

EDIT: Found it. It was posted October 25, 2014. And it was directed at Josh's cousin. So this isn't every poser with a cousin named Josh coming out of the woodworks after the leak to claim he's the real Josh - this is way before Josh was even a twinkle in our eyes.

I'm almost sure that's the guy because he's friends with her and Rob on facebook and he's reminiscent of Bradley (but I could be wrong of course).

And apparently he's a gamer and has liked a Lana Del Rey song remix, although that might not be him on youtube and it's just a coincidence.

This may have been mentioned before, but what do we know about Lana's relationship with Aaron Peer, who made and starred in the short film "Poolside" with her? It struck me that his character is called "Ray" in the film-- at first, I dismissed it as coincidence or perhaps creative input from Lana, but come to think of it, could Ray be a nickname for someone named Aaron? My brother's name is Aaron, and I can't help but think of the way our southern great-grandmother prounounced it-- "Ay-ron"-- which in turn reminds me of Ray.

 

This is a big stretch, of course, but perhaps it would be an interesting avenue to explore-- if Aaron Peer was indeed the "Ray" Lana has sung about (and even apparently named herself after), this could be the first step in unlocking some big mysteries.

She has given many wild reasonings behind her name but I think the most recent mention when it came up in an interview was that it was inspired by her Spanish speaking friends in Miami so yes that could have been a factor

I believe Josh is (one of the two?) people she wrote Video Games about. I feel like I remember reading about that long ago. He said something like "when you play world of warcraft instead of spending time with your girlfriend and she writes a song about it" lol. I might be confusing that with something else though.

So I was listening to TLY today (like 5 times in a row) and I was thinking about what could she be singing about/what was this song written about?

Although he isn't dead (at least to my knowledge-know that he was on death row but idk if he was actually killed)

These lyrics hit me as her wanting to reach someone who isn't here or who she can't contact anymore.

 

Just a bogus little theory I thought of and I don't know if it makes sense or anything. Just a lot of the lyrics allude to a guy who had a bad reputation and she didn't mind because she loved him, she lost him, she thinks of him a lot, and she's tried to communicate with him or something. Knowing homegirls interest in philosophy and the higher powers, maybe she has actually attempted to communicate with someone who isn't here anymore lol.
