I've listened to the album several times through now and I actually like it. I don't think it's her best album, (BTD=UV>HM>LFL) but TNC is amazing. I think the songs flow well as a whole, (even Coachella) but most aren't strong individually. I don't know why I always see a connection with Barrie in her music, but I noticed:

TNC:

I waited for you

In the spot you said to wait

In the city, on a park bench

In the middle of the pouring rain

'Cause I adored you

I just wanted things to be the same

You said to meet me there tomorrow

But tomorrow never came

'See her smiling' Barrie James O'Neill:

Out under the stars, I'm waiting for something

Something that's new - maybe you?

The girl that's in the park, batting her eyelids

Waiting for you, this is true

There's other signs this song is clearly about Lana (mention of tabloids and paps).

see her smiling is DEFINITELY about lana. good catch

I have a ridiculous theory okay here me out.

God Bless America is about carrying a gun.

Now, before anyone says anything, I'm not pro-gun myself. I've touched a gun once, and I freaked out because I have crippling anxiety. But I don't know what Lana's views are, she's from upstate new york, who knows! And it's probably ironic, lol

Anyway, the play-by-play

Take me as I am

Take me, baby, in stride

Only you can save me tonight

Here, she's referring to using her gun as self-defense.

Even when I'm alone

I'm not lonely

I hear the sweetest melodies (sweetest melodies)

On the fire escapes of the city

Sounds like I am free

Here, Lana has just committed a crime and is escaping through the back of the building on the fire escape, and she has freed herself from the scene.

God bless America, and all the beautiful women in it

God bless America, and all the beautiful women in it

May you stand proud and strong

Like Lady Liberty shining all night long

Here, she's singing a song to the women of America standing up for themselves. The gunshots, and the "God Bless America", are allusions to the 2nd amendment

Take me as I am

Don't see me for what I'm not

Only you can hear me tonight

Keep your light on, babe

I might be standing outside

You let me in, don't leave me out

Or leave me dry

Lana is waiting for her accomplice to pick her up/let her in their house after fleeing the scene of the crime. "Don't leave me dry, you know what happens to people who mess with Lana. They up in the ditch, bitch!"

Even walking alone, I'm not worried

I feel your arms all around me (arms around me)

Here, Lana alludes to the fact that when she's walking alone, she's not worried, because she has a big ass gun on her holster. She loves to concealed carry so much that it literally feels like she's caressed by her gun. She wants to fuck the gun.

Even with you I’ve got no one to lose

So you'd better believe that nobody can make me feel lonely

Because I hear (sweetest melodies)

I still somehow know that I'll never feel, ever feel lonely

I have no fear, It's got me thinking

Now we learn that those sweetest melodies are the sound of gunshots.

That's my expert analysis. Make me the mod of lyrics Genius rn

I think you are taking it a bit far but the theory about her carying a gun for defense makes sense. "Even walking alone, I'm not worried. I feel your arms all around me" always made me think about something like that. I think the gunshots in the chorus are a parody of romanticising american culture, just like she did it herself in Ride. Especially since they sound so ... goofy

Just do it. Just do it - don't wait!

I love the "fucks" in Cherry, I just wish she didn't say "bitch". Also the "are ruined" is really out of place

As usual with her songs there are multiple interpretations. Mine is that GBAAATBWII is actually Oh Say Can You See from the AKA album -- version 2.0.

"Oh Say Can You See"

Oh, say can you see my stars
The night time is almost ours
To wander through alleys and look at the bars
Night time is almost ours

The headlights from passing cars
They illuminate my face then leave me the dark
The voice of Nirvana says, "Come as you are"
And I will
The night time is almost ours

The sway of the hips and arms
Will cradle you from afar
They swing till you're tired and send you to Mars
Night time is almost ours

Both songs are about women wanting to be unafraid at night and wanting to "come as they are", although GBA might also add to OSCYS the idea of women wanting to be unafraid in the daytime too, because of the political climate.
