I want that too, but there was a noticeable different in quality from the weenie show to the BBC show. Like she was nervous, knowing anyone in the world could be watching if they wanted to.

All this newbie discussion reminded me when I joined this site a year ago and how fuckng broken it was. Permanent tropico profile pics, having to create an account through twitter cuz the verification email didn't come through despite trying multiple times, and an admin who I didn't know was the admin because they didn't do anything that would suggest otherwise. Ya new kids who've joined after Elle became the new admin have had it good.

There's a fight between new and old members?
Leaked being banned is very drastic though, never liked him or his humour but just because you disagree with somebody does not mean you can automatically silence them. The irony of him being banned over a suicide joke when he was pointing out how all of you specifically phrased it that way when the album didn't come out. A lovely mess.

99.9% of these godforsaken posts on this thread could be deleted and we would literally lose absolutely nothing of value. crops would bloom. the sun would shine eternally and darkness would be no longer. the Earth would be plunged into a new golden age.

"Randomly, in the last few years, I feel like I’ve grown up. Maybe I’ve just had time to think about everything, process everything. I’ve gotten to move on and think about how it feels now, singing songs I wrote ten years ago. It does feel different. I was almost reliving those feelings on stage until recently. It’s weird listening back to my stuff."

One of my all time favorite live performances (ironically her first time performing Carmen live)  because she really is reliving those feelings, you can see the emotion in her face and her voice. She doesn't hit every note right, but it is a powerful performance.

I was at Lollapalooza last year and while the performance was amazing. You can notice a different. Of course 2012 show was a small cafe and Lolla is a huge festival.

I guess the point we're trying to get at, is there isn't much emotion in her performances anymore. Clearly the size of shows has something to do with it, but I think especially because she sings BTD songs mostly (most of which were written YEARS ago), she doesn't have (or doesn't wanna have) an emotional connection to the music anymore. Definitely going through the motions, signing the same 5-10 songs can get boring and monotonous.

As a fan though it's disappointing, I want energy and emotion in her performances. I do feel she is losing her spark in her live performances, her music videos, just no stage presence.

But her studio releases never disappoint me.
Just wish she would perform UV and HM

I loved her BTD vocals. That's just me. She has gotten better singing those songs though. But overall that era was the best in looks, quality etc.

I like how she didn't sing Love at BBC because she knew she's not been doing her best at singing it live and it would have flopped even harder cause of her anxiety from being recorded.

I believe the article you reference is this: http://www.talkhouse.com/mish-way-white-lung-talks-lana-del-reys-ultraviolence/   While I certainly agree that it could have been better and also felt somewhat uncomfortable at the initial hearing of this performance, having listened to it some more as well as the other female and female-fronted acts (Pale Waves, London Grammar, Zara Larrson, Emeli Sande, Anne-Marie, Katie Perry, Lorde), I think LDR did respectably (i.e., competently) at representing a style of singing different from the rest. The closest comparable for me was London Grammar (a voice sort of midway between Florence and Marina), but even there, the virtuosity (considerable though it was) seemed different. LDR's also singing pretty virtuosically in the last 3 songs, at least at times. The "key dyslexia" I didn't really hear, but if it was in Cruel World, that was the highpoint for me in terms of naturalness of singing. It's her power levels, which seem anemic relative to others, that seems to put people off, and I'd love to know what the first 2 songs would have been like with voice mixed at twice the instruments.

It's not that she's off key her acapellas aren't I mean she sings in higher octaves a lot I read somewhere you can mix up the key and without it sounding bad if that makes sense
The problem is sometimes her voice just dissapears and sounds outright bad as of late namely all of her love performances

To be honest... if I only listen to the clips, I don't hear that much of a difference, except for the end of the bridge ("and you're alive again..!"). She still sings nice, but maybe it's just the facial expressions that have changed? In the first clip from the bar, her eyes looked shiny (about to cry or because it was zoomed in so much?) and she kept on looking up while she looked down at Lollapalooza.
I think she has changed her stage presence since the dancers came, she seems much cooler (as in cool breeze) now. But yes, I guess it depends on what she's feeling during that day. I think she once said why she starting crying (Dublin show?) at a concert, because all these fans cared so much and she wasn't sure if she really did that night. But I know she loves her fans.
I haven't had the time to watch that many concert fancams, but I really love this performance of Yayo in Moscow. Everyone are so quiet and Lana really... I dunno, it's just magical.

Girl, you're life isn't a movie and there are no parallels. We all go through ups and downs but as previously stated you misunderstood most of her songs. A lot of her songs are about heartbreak and abandonment, I guess that's a common theme in most people's life. You realizing as much as Kylie in 2016, stop being delusional. The only thing that's scary is your unrestrained belief in having a special, meaningful existence comparable to your favourite's singer artistic (fictional) story.

I've been reflecting on her recent bbc performance (and how much I felt disappointed) and was reading through these pages about others commenting on it and I'm just wondering what's wrong. Obviously mixing was shit and there was clear nervousness in her face but even then she was off key for most of the set and I just feel bad, I've seen people say she's losing her voice and spark but yet this was her last year at the Freak Premiere

Like i don't get it, she sounds incredible, smooth, and lively with her voice and interaction with the fans. Has she aged quicker over 2016? Is it the venue sizes? (lowkey Auburn hair was gorgeous seeing her go back to that she looks so youthful with it dark brown is tired Lana please). Hell, even the more acoustic West Coast sounds so sweet and proves how her songs can transcend their initial production; I just hope LfL can see more of this and less of BBC types of vocals, I wouldn't even mind if she switched to smaller venues and arenas for her tour, it looks like her environment in which she thrives.

(i.e. Chateau Marmont BtD live, her old bar performances during Lizzy Grant, etc.) I just want her to be comfortable and not have this wavering era flop like it's predicted to be

I think for me, thinking about her live shows, a problem I have with her back up dancers are not so much the actual dancers themselves (they seem cool irl), but what they represent. They were clearly brought in, as well as the choreography, to "spice up" her live shows and inject it more with energy (as well as to maybe try something new for the shows). I get that a lot of Lana's material is slower and that sometimes can be difficult to translate to the stage, especially for festivals. But, if we're being honest, shows don't need things like choreography or back up dancers in order to be interesting. Slower music doesn't have to equal a boring show. At the end of the day, it's up to the musicians and the performer to engage with their material, to tell the story of the song and translate the emotions, and that seems to be something Lana hasn't been totally willing to do for a while now. Sometimes she does, yes, but a lot of times it kind of feels like she's just going through the motions. And that's disappointing because she's already shown us that she's more than capable of putting on a show that feels alive and immediate and engaged (the iTunes Festival 2012  and her performances of Heart-Shaped Box being particular standouts, though there are many others).
I can understand one problem might be that most of her material is pretty dark/personal, and she probably doesn't want to go on night after night rehashing painful memories. And that could be another reason why she wants to put out Lust for Life--to sing songs at her shows that are a little more uplifting.
I don't know, this is a total rant/ramble, I just wish there was a way she could bring back some of that bite that's been missing for a while now at her shows. Because, when she was really engaged, it was so magical.
