David Bowie was a chameleon singer, and so are 1000 other artists/singers throughout history.  Lana Del Rey is also one.
What is wrong with that ?
It is their persona (their alter ego) which makes it more fun to watch and listen to.
We all KNOW its all fake acting and an illusion.  It´s entertainment !

If they were just common lounge singers, life would be soooo boring.
Is that what people want ?

Go listen to this 1922 record

okay this is all really off topic but comparing lana to kanye is kind of a stretch no matter what, lana’s lying lies more along the lines of gaga, madonna, a lot of other artists out there, meanwhile kanye’s behaviour ventures into azealia banks territory

was lana playing into some things during her early days? most likely? was she faking an entire personality? most likely not

and that speaking voice things is so weird lmao some of u should watch these madonna interviews/voice through the years videos or this one i found of gaga and compare 2:20 to 5:25 for example

Fake deep voice during Born To Die, fake breathy Marilyn Monroe impressions during interviews, fake gangster Nancy Sinatra act.   You have to be completely oblivious to believe she wasn't playing persona.    And even if she were consistent in lying, which she's not, it still wouldn't matter because consistent lying is still lying.   https://www.nme.com/news/music/lana-del-rey-says-less-persona-now-2069996

Can we stop using a racist as if it's one category and a noun? People can be racist without being "a racist" I've had loved ones... people I've trusted... friends.... be racist. And I am a black woman. It doesn't mean I automatically see them as a confederate flag waving bigots, but they have been racist and said/done racist things, and it can't be ignored and has to be called out. People think you have to have racist intentions to be racist. No. Even good people with good intentions can perpetuate racism and they must learn from those moments. It's not just overt hate that exists within the realm of racism we experience. You can be racist without being "a racist." And thus Lana absolutely can say something racist. It's called ignorance and it's still no excuse. Let's please stop acting like it only applies to one evil category of people. And also, having black friends or partaking in black culture doesn't free you from the cycle of racism. I'm not even sure what the context of this response was, but the one of steps toward combating racism is recognizing in all forms (small and large and within a one's ownself) and not feeling so damn uncomfortable about it!

the "open your purse" comments really get on my nerves... she's under no obligation to prove to anybody that she donated money, and i'm assuming she already has. if she did post that she donated, people would think she is showing off and just doing it to make herself look good, but if she doesn't post about it, people would assume she didn't donate at all, and that she hasn't done enough. i guess her donations are only valid if she chooses to broadcast it to the world.

people are really dragging her for posting pics of protestors "faces" when THEY'RE ALL WEARING MASKS. Whats not clicking. If cops wanted to find faces all they'd have to do is check twitter cus i've seen hundreds over the last couple of days. Literally search getty images and there's thousands of pics of protestors faces.....these people hating on Lana's post must have worms in their brains like honestly

Really? Now the criticism is "open your purse"... Does she have to rub the receipts on their faces?

Racism isn't just people going "I HATE BLACK PEOPLE", it's subtle. Racists always swear to god they're not racists. You need to be discerning and look at someones consistent behavior to be able to tell, and that entire instagram letter, not caring that she may have been insensitive and just got mad at the accusation of being racist, dating a cop and then saying he's one of the good ones, saying you're just "in the middle" politically, suddenly acting hood and saying "im gonna fuck you up" to a black woman for criticizing her activism, acting like the most noteworthy issue in all of this is the looting, and so much more, is just shit that racist people do.

tbh i'm not asking anything of her. she can post all she wants about BLM but it's not gonna change that she's consistently proved she has no grasp on race issues in america. when someones simply not-racist, you don't need to ask them to post things to prove how not-racist they are, it would just be obvious.

Lana isn’t a racist. Don’t believe she ever was. A racist wouldn’t have ever made a music video with a black husband as president and mixed children. I believe generally shes a bit ignorant when it comes to politics, we see even from feminism she hasn’t much interest in it. Alot of artist minds live in their own bubble, especially so as we battle mental illness. I’m bipolar and have had really dark times, at those times did you think I was coherent enough to follow along with what was going on in the world? I couldnt. My mind wasnt really “there”. I didn’t feel real most of the time. I cared for people yes. I was also tired and lost. Going through suffocating depression and pain. To be able to be healthy enough now mentally and to be alot more present in the world than before feels like a blessing. No one knows whats truly in a n y o n e s hearts. People can say the most perfect things, act in the most perfect way, all for show, concealing their true self. Who knows what celebrities truly care and have empathy? Dont believe in everything you see.... but besides that, i truly feel that Lana does care and she isn’t racist. She just most likely isnt super educated on the topic. And thats okay, she can learn. Whats important is she has empathy and a good heart and good morals.

Instead of tearing apart people for what they dont know, teach them. Dont attack them and single them out, come together snd teach one another. Its easier to teach someone ignorant with a good heart about these issues than someone ignorant with an evil heart and terrible beliefs.

right?? and let’s say she did post about it - they wouldn’t be satisfied with that either

This is probably not the right thread to talk about this, but I just want to say that this is a pretty stupid take. It is not the job of any celebrity to provide better wages. That's what politicans are suppsoed to do. You know the people, who are supposed to represent your interests and can actually change something. Celebrities are not lawmakers lmao
Donating, amplify voices and/or activism is all they can do. Everything else is up to the people and how they vote tbh

This mutual twitter follower of mine had the audacity to say that if you’re a lana del rey fan you’re classified as “racist”... this is fucking ignorant. This is the same mutual who has “slayyyter” tatted on their lips who, mind you, was exposed for running an actual racist twitter account and making horrid racist comments towards the black community. Lana has bee severely tone deaf, but she is not a racist in any means.

Lana's always been better at expressing herself through her music so I'm not too worried about that. Her songs are filled with insight and compassion, which people seem to be forgetting right now, so hopefully she's able to express herself more clearly in the music and remind people that she has a kind heart and comes from a good place.

all for a drop of the clout. selling the cds and donating the profits to blm-adjacent organisations would be a more productive effort that would actively help people.

I really think it starts w more transparency btwn the leaders and the people. I think information's got to be made more available and gradually integrated objectively into news media so the people can make informed decisions, at least a little easier. Not everyone's got lawyers that can dissect acts etc. Most people have busy lives to lead and I'm sure it'd help many.
Also, I'm thinking mental/emotional regulating of officers more. The cop who did the deed had multiple conduct complaints on his record and his superiors didn't seem to do anything about it prior and then, how everything started. More monitoring of the police force in general bc the power is there and it should be checked. I think counseling should be made mandatory for cops while they're employed. Dont quote me on this but cops usually get screened before the job, and of course their persepctives and behaviors can change, so its important to really regulate/ provide attention to it.

Last thing, I really think that community service should be more prominently introduced to inmates and finding better solutions for them once they're out or while in their stay bc chances of them getting back in are higher than not. Also, statisically, the system pays more money towards the average prisoner than they do their college students which says A LOT. I think I'll stop there, but yeah a lot needs to be done. It's just all connected and impacts us all heavily.

I don't think her Instagram story with George Floyd was directly related to the looting. Before I got on Twitter and saw the mess, I just assumed it was to shed George Floyd in a positive light. I've seen a lot of people repost that video (myself included), and no one is calling them out. The impression that I've gotten from it from the jump is that it's mostly saying "Aht, aht! Don't even try to paint him in a violent, 'criminal' light. He was clearly against it".

I think if Lana resists the temptation to defend herself for now and the majority of her fans will stand their ground and look at it relatively rationally (which I think most in her fanbase are capable of) she’ll be ok. It’s important now for her to understand it’s not the right time to defend yourself as heated as everything is right now and also because a lot of the digs against her are unfair trolls only waiting for her to snap till they get tired of it and find someone new. Sadly those who want to be mean to her will most likely never let that go again but that will not sabotage her for life. Kim Petras is literally becoming bigger in spite of all the accusations against her.

When good intentions don't cut it, people turn your tone deaf/less than smart moves into you actually wanting to be malicious, making it seem like said moves are you genuinely being ill intentioned. This is getting fucking ridiculous. I understand and agree with most of the criticism in regards to her approach, but she listened to criticism and legit took down the video. This is getting extremely vicious and tiresome now.

Lana sweetie, do yourself a service and just disconnect for a while.
