Lana is one of a kind. Her beautiful music, unique voice and friendly personality stands out in todays music world. She has a legacy of fantastic songs.
To stand close to her at a concert is a memory for life, something that I will always remember. There are many many artists with "bops". I like them too.
But Lana's songs has a special place in my heart no matter how many album she sells. I feel pity for the ones who will never step inside her fantastic
fantasy world. The question you have to ask yourselves is: do you like her music If not what are you doing here?!

Swan Song should have been the album closer, so magical and beautiful. You could retire after doing a song like that tbh

Put your white tennis shoes on and follow me
Why work so hard when you could just be free?
You got your moment now, you got your legacy
Let's leave the world for the ones who change everything

    Nothing could stop
    The two of us
    Let's just get lost,
    That's what we want

And I will never sing again
And you won't work another day
    I will never sing again
With just one wave it goes away
It will be our swan song
It will be our swan song
    Be our swan song
It will be our swan song

Dive in, dive deep and dive blue, my sweet
Rushing up from the water where the ice meets
And you've been gone so long, you missed everything
The world can change in a day if you go away

    But nothing could stop
    The two of us
    If that's what we want
    We could just get lost

And I will never sing again

It will be our swan song
    Be our swan song
It will be our swan song

    Do you like?
Do you like, where you've been,
And where you're going to? (going to)
    Say good night
Say good night to the life in the world you knew
    I'm gonna follow you

And I will never sing again
And you won't work another day

My favourite thing about being a Lana fan is that she's just fucking effortlessly cool.

She doesn't need to make a spectacle of herself on awards shows and talk shows to maintain her career and the media's interest in her.
She doesn't have a godawful cheap-ass perfume, line of clothes, shoes or accessories to extend her 'brand' (ugh).
No terrible, ill-fitting, cringey collaborations with lesser 'singers' to boost her exposure.
She doesn't smize desperately from every magazine cover and saturate the media with her presence, until everyone's sick of her and willing her to fail.
She's just cool. And seems like a genuinely nice person. And she maintains integrity in the work she does.

OT, Honeymoon is perfect. I'm so pleased she has made no attempt to take a more accessible, radio- or chart-friendly approach.

    I love being a fan.

I kind of understand why Lana's music is characterised as 'depressing', but personally I think it's just more thoughtful and meditative and I guess adult than the 'contemporaries' she's (wrongly) lumped with. She's not a pop star, right? Comparing her to Katy or Taylor or whatever seems really redundant. Different universes.

She could be a great pop star if her unreleased stuff is anything to go by, but she's pretty much beyond that now. UV and HM are the work of a woman who walks her own path. I don't give a fuck about critics' 'scores' and ascribing some arbitrary number to her albums. Like that's going to change how I feel about the music.

Wow, I had no idea HBTB was so hated. I love it! The beat is great! Very low and hits great in my headphones, house speakers and the car. I love to get HBTB so maybe I can just relate to it personally lol.

The more I listen, especially in my car, loud, the more I hear that I hadn't heard.
The production (and I can't emphasis how great it is and important that she is one of the producers is amazing.

And while some songs may be slow, they are also dances, slow dances.

Her being as if she were from the 1960s, well in the 40s 50s 60s there were slow songs and there were waltzes and shuffles.

One can slow dance and groove to many of the songs if one puts their mind into it.

Much the same way Ultraviolence had on West Coast and Shades of Cool

    It's all really romantic

and one other thing- still not positive that Lana is not singing about Elizabeth or is it Elizabeth singing about Lana.

for those that might not have read it, my take on the cover photo is Elizabeth on a family tour of the stars (sister Chuck took the pictures) like a regular person who is on a tour of the stars and one of the stars is femme fatale of the film noir era Lana Del Rey.
In many of the songs, the person she could theoretically be talking about is herself. If one listens to it as that.

    and one last thing-
    not a bad song.
Most artists give 3 singles or 4, and don't really care if you listen to the filler.
Lana has no filler. Even if one might not like instantly a song, a month from now, that song might be the one on constant replay. No filler. (at least in my opinion)

I don't actually know why people complain about Lana's lyrics being shallow. Like who you are comparing to? Taylor Swift?
  13. Miguel3Zero liked a post in a topic by LoreleiLee in Lana’s Best Album / Your Favourite
I honestly think the anguish and torture of choosing between Born To Die and Ultraviolence would be equal to Sophie's choice. Both of them are magnum opuses, ultimate classics. BTD has more distinguished, irreplaceable, anthological singles which set the anchor ideals, and Ultraviolence is one blended, monumental, monadic emotional experience. So, they are equal in the long run.
It is still early for me to put Honeymoon in the race, although it grows on me with astral speed.

  21. Miguel3Zero liked a post in a topic by Valentino in LANALYSIS: Relating Songs To Known/Assumed Relationships
Could you elaborate on that? I've never understood the K = Kurt Cobain theories. The only song that I would think really matches that is For K Part 2, which is very unlike other "K" songs. It has no relationship to the only other song that mentions K by name (and the only one that mentions him in the lyrics), Drive-by. I don't know much about Kurt Cobain, so forgive me if I'm ignorant, but I don't see anything in the Drive-by song that is reminiscent of him. Do you consider the "double homicide" some sort of metaphor? The song seems very literal and almost country music-like in its storytelling, so I have a hard time seeing it as metaphorical or symbolic.

To jump off from that, a tiny essay on my recent K thoughts!

K is from her May Jailer era, which is probably the most shrouded in mystery. There are other songs from this period, but I don't think anyone's ever convincingly tied them together or tied them to her post-acoustic stuff. The recurrence of a "nice guy" trying to make money who makes a terrible mistake and is sent to prison/death row is the only reason we even think that, for example, Blue Jeans or Off To The Races or TV In Black & White are about K. We don't have discussions about whoever "Pretty Baby" or "Next To Me" or "Star For Nick" are about because they're too vague to tie to any of her more recent music or the themes don't recur. But her May Jailer stuff was recorded a long time ago... her themes have evolved since. Except for maybe the K thing (which she instigated by renaming Rehad "For K Part 2" and further confusing us all).

Moreover, the criminal description changes depending on the song. If For K Part 2 is about the same K as Drive-By, then it seems he was a musician and probably one who played guitar-based music. That'd be pretty different from the urban gangster type Lana also describes. And moreover, there's a third type - some glamorous, rich man who adored her but went under for whatever reason. I used to try and tie these all together as possibly different periods of K, but I think they're just different manifestations of the criminal fantasy Lana likes.

Trying to tie this back to interviews where she mentions real people...

There's an interview I've been trying to find where she says this about Million Dollar Man:
Yeah, definitely Million Dollar Man (and also just like Hollywood's Dead: "you were 50s cool [...] but it was a cover for all of the trouble you got into" + "I always fall for the same type/gangsters in Vegas on game night"). There's a huge difference between running an illegal electronics business and killing two men, though, even if both get you sent to jail.

She says this about OTTR, often considered a "K" song:
K from Drive-By was a nice guy who somehow ended up killing two people while trying to make money (the actual profit generating action is never elaborated upon). Not rich, not living a glamorous life. Off the top of my head, the song that closest fits the specifics of K's actions is Blue Jeans:

There was a drive-by Sunday night ... He headed out on Sunday, said he'd come home Monday
Making money's hard to do right ... He was chasin' paper ... Told you I wanted more, that's not what I had in mind
Now he's in a jail cell for some 30 years now ... Sent him onto death row, not to hang around though ... Then they took you away, stole you out of my life

We used to classify most gangsta/criminal songs that did not mention a musician or music as K songs, but it seems to me that this would mean K would have been both a hip-hop head and a punk rocker who was also crazy rich while not having enough money. Recently, the only songs I've classified as K songs (insofar as K is an archetype, a character, an idea, as opposed to a real life person) are songs that mention a lover that is either in prison (TVIB&W) or dead (DP). The guys mentioned in MDM and HD (who I think are the same person) and the one in OTTR (who might be the same one as in MDM+HD) are therefore not K songs. I don't know what this means for Backfire, Dangerous Girl, National Anthem, Golden Grill, etc.

One day when I have enough free time, I'm just gonna listen to all her stuff straight through and note different recurring "characters." We talk about her repeated lyrics (daddy, party dress, pale moonlight) but she certainly has repeated characters and they can't all be autobiographical. There are people she mentions in her interviews (frustratingly enough, never by name) that seem to match up with certain personages in her songs, as well, but that's another thing I'd need another day for.

This is why I love being a Lana fan, by the way. The consistency in her lyrics makes it so much fun to look at her work as a whole.

So initially I had been planning to start camping out for Lana at 6:45pm during Big Gigantic's set. I had been at the festival for the two days before and I noticed that the crowds dissipated after each act was done, so I thought if I made it early for a relatively unknown act and then stayed behind once everyone left, that I'd have a good chance to be at the front.

Well, when I arrived to the island at around 1:30, I went on twitter to see what a couple of Lana fans that I knew were attending were up to, and I saw that they had already started camping out for Lana hours earlier, so I decided to go check the VIP section of the Honda stage and sure enough, there were already like 10 people camping out. So I decided to just sit down and wait from then on. I had been hoping to get a selfie with Lana, but since the others had already taken up the spots in the front row against the gate, I knew I would just have to settle for second row.

So I basically waited 8 hours. Everyone around me was pretty nice, but once the show started there was a fight near me after some kid pushed this girl's sister and she punched him back. During the show some other girl had to be taken out because everyone around her was complaining that she was pushing and "terrorizing" everyone. Luckily she wasn't near me.

I had a really great view of Lana and I didn't have to deal with people pushing me or being crazy, so I had a pretty good time!

My only complaint is that the show felt too short, even though I already knew that her set was only scheduled to be 1 hour and 15 minutes.

I definitely want to try and see her again. Now I know that if I want to get a selfie I have to arrive really, really, really early.

I'm not back to reality yet.

    The pre-concert experience:

I got a Silver VIP ticket. Silver VIPs had to wait at an other entrance on the other side of the building. I got there at 10:30pm the night before. If you are hesitant to camp, well just do it. I was worried about my comfort, but the key is to arrive prepared. I thought I would look like a fucking tourist, but for Lana it was worth it. I packed all my stuff, called Uber (too heavy to carry in the subway), headed downtown and arrived at the waiting spot. Five people were in line already. I installed my stuff and 15 minutes later we where smoking a joint, talking about Lana, laughing, having fun.

Here's the list of things I brought with me:

Everything would have been perfect if it wasn't for the cold night. My sleeping bag was not warm enough and I was shivering at times.

I started trying to sleep around midnight and every time I'd wake up I was pissed to see nobody else was getting in line. The next people in line got there at 5am. It's a gamble, but this time I didn't take any chance and got my ass in line early. I was #8. I thought I was #6 at first, but someone was saving a spot for two people who arrived around 6am. It didn't change a thing as I got the spot I wanted on first row (2-3 feet left of the center of the stage, right in front of the stairs).

A lot of people stopped their car to ask us what artist we were going to see, as people usually don't linup in that part of the venue. Most of them had no clue who was Lana Del Rey. Voyons calisse...

The wait didn't seem long at all during the day. Grimes passed in front of us I think it was around noon. Someone recognize her and wanted to take a picture, but she declined with a smile as she had to go to the hospital. Something with her leg. She performed later with a splint on her foot and she didn't seem to give a fuck about her situation. She performed like a firecracker, dancing and everything. Her show was great. I'm not a fan of her music, but I still enjoyed the performance. She was super happy to be there and I think she mentioned Montreal was her hometown.

Then Lana came and I burst in tears. Seriously, I couldn't control my face. I was too excited, too emotional (I'm Cancer, I can't help it). She looked like a goddess in her long lace dress. She was so elegant, so feminine, so confident. She was moving on the stage so gracefully, she was totally comfortable and in control. Her vocals where great. No sound problems that distracted her. It was a good day She was generous, we got 15 songs! It's much appreciated considering how tired she must have been (two concerts in a row. I think she enjoy a day off between shows). She also gave us 5 star as an audience (*cough* Toronto… )

    (Just kidding!)

    The Setlist:

She went to the barricade twice. The first time didn't last long, just a few seconds. People obviously lost their mind and the heavy pushing started. Maybe she saw some people struggling to survive, so she decided to get back to stage so they could breathe again. Seriously, I didn't care much about the pushing. I actually liked it as it was
massaging my sore back lol. Then, she came down again at the end of the show while her musician where still playing OTTR and spent an average 10 seconds with everybody who was front row. The pushing was so bad I though I would drop my phone.Talking about phone… I had a phone malfunction and my selfie with her was ruined by bad light or something. When she was to my level, I though I would faint. Here's what I remember:

    Me: I love you so much…! I don't know what to say…
    Her: Aww thank you!
(She gave me the most beautiful smile I've ever seen in my entire life, her face was luminous)
Me: I brought a gift for you

I handed her my gift bag and she thanked me. Then I asked for a selfie and it went bad, my cellphone was acting crazy and I was loosing precious seconds. I took 3 selfies. The quality of the image is so bad, but hey I got one!

It's just ridiculous. I spent precious time trying to figure out what was wrong with the phone when I could simply have had a hug. I would have much preferred a warm embrace as I initially didn't plan to share the selfie with anybody and I'm not into bad photography. Oh whatever...

I didn't have time to ask her to sign my UV vinyl.

So, almost off to the races she went (The Grand Prix weekend is starting now). A lot of people were waiting for her outside the venue. I waited about an hour to finally discover that she probably left. People have found out an article in the online newspaper saying she left to the airport minutes after the show. There was a picture of her in a SUV getting out of the venue. A paparazzi took it. Now I just saw someone's tweet: "When your dad texts you telling you that Lana Del Rey is staying at the same hotel as him in Montreal. WHY AM I NOT THERE". Is it true? She didn't reply. If that's true then fuck, shoot me. But I understand that she wants to go to NY to be with Francesco, that's alright

I know, I know... I met her during the concert, but I would have much preferred to talk to her after the show when it's more quiet. I was so emotional, I have like a mini black-out. The most weird part is that I don't remember is we kissed each other. I don't think so, as I would have remembered, but my friends saw us on the giant screen, kissing each other on the cheek. Maybe they didn't see properly. I'll try to find a video, hopefully I will see how it all happened. It was like in a dream and a nightmare at the same time, as I was not in control and I was overwhelmed which I don't like. I felt like I was on painkiller, not 100% there.

When we got out of the venue and tried to figure out where she would come out, one of the guy I befriended with in the VIP Silver line said that he asked her (while she was taking selfies at the end of the show) if she would meet after and she said yes. So I didn't know what to do. I stayed an hour, then decided to leave. I was exhausted. When I got home I drank 7 shooters of rum back to back and cried in the shower. Post-concert depression. Big time. I also cried when I woke up, starting to think she left so quickly, she probably didn't take my gift(S) and letter with her. I'm alright now.

Overall it was an amazing experience and I would do it again. I know I said to people around me that it was a one shot thing, but I will do it again.

She was in the Detroit area tonight to a 15,000+ audience, and she was BRILLIANT. Anyone complaining about Grimes or a 13 song set can HUSH because man, she was brilliant.  Grimes was fun and a nice way to open, and Lana was insanely good. Gorgeous vocals and a kicker stage-set.  I loved the NYC look. 13 songs is A LOT OF SONGS - I sang myself almost hoarse just singing along; I can't imagine how anyone does more than that and manages to still tour. She's perfect. It was about an hour and a half and I loved every second.
