The HMV exclusive cover of COCC is worse than the official cover

it definitely is. the lofi-ness, the sleigh bells, the guitar break - they all create this nostalgic feeling as if we are looking back to when lana used to live in nyc
i was not interested in HTD the slightest when she posted the first snippet cuz it was just another piano ballad, but the instrumental really made the song for me

Although now iconic and instrumental in imparting 'Lana Del Rey' in the public's consciousness, in retrospect I find most of her work with Nicole Nodland somewhat corny and heavy handed and I would not be all that excited to see them collab again

Yes! I think you're pretty much spot on. The little girl is definitely a representation of a younger Lana, I think Lana's reflection can be seen in the mirror the girl is looking herself into

Another clue about it it's that after the pack returns home,  and although it seems Lana and the girl both "share" the same room and it is night time, the girl isn't anywhere to be seen waiting for Lana...

It's pretty interesting that Lana wants to show she's taking care of herself, specially after her strong takes during Mother's Day and her "I've never had a mother" lines in LA Who Am I To Love You. Was she really on her own as a child? I think it's more of her trying to depict that now as an adult with a support group she's able to take care of the scars she got as a child. That's an interpretation for theraphy and looking at past mistakes and trauma. Pretty cool, right? Thanks for pointing it out @PARADIXO

veryyyyy this!! she is a grown 35 y/o woman - she shouldn't require an army of fans to decode and un-twist her words on her behalf. she needs to think more! more thinking, MUCH more listening, and occasionally... less talking PLEASE LANA

Yes thank you for all of this!

And it's so true. Her words will stop being taken out of context when she puts more effort into them. Fans who relentlessly defend her are literally the ones putting words in her mouth "OMG SHE MEANT THIS, NOT THIS" like okay then why did she say it like that?????

After this album drops and Behind The Iron Gates is out, I can see Lana disappearing for a longer time. I keep thinking this is the beginning of her career’s twilight

'if you're a jerk and everybody tells you you're a jerk and you have no idea you're a jerk now we have to finally address this big issue in the world with what do we do with people hurting other people' and other general comments about delusions of grandeur etc.

normalise saying "im not really sure how to word my point right now given the time constraints or the restrictions of my on-the-spot articulation abilities" so that people like lana don't show their asses like this constantly ?

what i think lana might have been trying to say:
"Climate change is a really big issue, just like capitalism - but having Trump in office really brought to the forefront of the public consciousness the ways that narcissism and sociopathy allow these issues to continue and develop. We should pay attention to the ills of climate change and the effects of a capitalistic society, but when we are giving massive amounts of power to individuals we should also inspect those individuals for displays of narcissism and sociopathy - how can we expect someone to heal communities or an entire country if they are narcissists that only think of themselves, or sociopaths that have no remorse for their actions?"

what lana came across as saying to someone who is not a fan:
"As a privileged rich white woman who has shown time and time again that she is ignorant and certainly that she cannot take constructive criticism - hence the fact that I spent half of this interview trying to prove how totally not racist I am - I am dismissing the issue of climate change and pinning the terrifyingly catastrophic state of the world on some abstract strain of ~narcissism~ because I care more about making a fake deep point and providing an enticing pseudo-philiosphical headline and soundbite than being responsible with my platform. This will likely cause uproar and I know it. I do not care to find out why this will upset people."

what i think lana might have been trying to say, part two:
"The madness of Trump really emboldened a lot of very bad people. As bad as his presidency was, the one thing we can take away from it is that it exposed a lot of people for who they really are - some famous people, some acquaintances, some people we may even have been close to. Having Trump in office made these people feel free to be as racist, homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic and xenophobic as they wanted to be, because he did the same. This isn't good, but it proves that we still have a very long way to go and a very hard battle to fight. I'm glad we had more of a spotlight on social justice, but it's a shame it came around because of someone as evil as Trump taking office."

what lana came across as saying to someone who is not a fan, part two:
"Trump's presidency was terrible. He is responsible for thousands of deaths - some due to his poor handling of COVID, some due to hate crimes that he emboldened his followers and supporters to carry out, some due to police brutality that he did absolutely nothing to tackle and in many cases encouraged, some due to the absolute poverty many Americans are living in, some due to stress-related organ failures as many American citizens work themselves quite literally to death. He is a fascist. He is an alleged rapist. He is awful. He has inspired hatred in thousands, if not millions, of Americans. However, literally none of this will ever affect me as I live in my bubble of LA millionaire privilege. Because of this, I will say that his presidency 'had to happen'. How else would my rich valley girl eyes have been opened if not for a literal fascist becoming President leading to the deaths of thousands of people? It means nothing to me that marginalised people have been living this reality since before he even ran for President. Thank goodness he came into power so that I and my matcha tea IG baddie friends could learn just a little bit about the real world. Yep, it totally had to happen!!! "

Now, let me be very very clear - I'm not saying this is entirely how her words came across to me. I'm just trying to put across extreme examples of how her words might seem to people that don't know her better - especially given the current social climate, where things are so hard for everybody and Trump has a hell of a lot to answer for. It is extremely fair for people to be mad over what she said, whether they are fans, non-fans, members of the general public, or even haters tbh. Lana is an extremely privileged woman who has had the luxury of ignorance (something she's displayed a lot of recently) while people are really really suffering. People are angry and are turning on the idea of celebrities in general tbh - so naturally many people are going to react to the absolutely ignorant words of a millionaire white lady with some level of hostility because people are going through hell, and hearing the words "it had to happen" regarding Trump's presidency - something that has destroyed the lives of a ridiculous number of people, as well as enabled hate crime and violence in the streets and in the Capitol - is going to trigger something in a lot of people.

Nobody has to be perfect. Hell, I don't think anyone can be! But there is a lot to be said for sensitivity and solidarity. No matter how deep and profound your potentially-controversial thought might be in your brain, if you're someone in Lana's position and you're on a huge platform on live radio with thousands listening and you can't word it without it coming across as insulting to the average working class person while on the spot..... maybe save it for when you can really articulate it and give it the nuance it deserves. That way, you're less likely to hurt people and more likely to be understood and potentially put a really necessary perspective out there! Who knows.

Also, about that "out of context" headline - the context really doesn't make it much better. Please don't harass the writer of the article. She said those words, they didn't lie about her. Clickbait is a given in journalism now sadly. Context or no context, people are gonna be furious with what Lana said. The headline isn't a good look but again, it's a direct quote from her so... yknow.

The fact that they apparently where on a video call, imagine being Annie Mac and trying to keep a straight face while talking at her "mmh", "yeah, sure", "that's right", and at the same time trying to decipher what the hell was the idea she was trying to create in her head. Definetly a special interview.

I do get what you're saying, for sure! But Jay-Z worded this point way better. Unfortunately Lana dug one hell of a hole with her wording

This raises a point - I think Lana would be so much better suited to a podcast format than an interview format if she wants to discuss these kinda big topics. The time constraints of a short radio interview just gives no breathing room honestly, and while I'm unhappy with what she said I like to believe she - somewhere in that mad unusual colourful brain of hers - had something she was trying to say, but maybe couldn't get out. idkkkkkk either way I think a podcast format would suit her better these days!

I agree with what you're saying, but at the same time - the vast majority of the time she is the one that brings up these things. I mean every time she brought up the racism thing Annie Mac tried swiftly steering away from it but Lana just kept bringing it up. And these hot takes she kept trying to put out there.... maaaaaaan. She keeps shooting herself in the foot honestly. Nobody is looking to her to be some amazingly well informed political speaker so that's why personally I would way way way rather she just kinda left it alone. As Tiffany would say, "you shoulda just sat there and ate your food" </3

I just want to add, that her statement about trump was the exact statement Jay-Z made back in 2017/2018 and it is funny af people wanna try to make that a talking point as if she messed up saying what she said when she spilled tea.

“One good thing he has done...He’s bringing out an ugly side of America that we wanted to believe was gone and it’s still here. i dont think lana is all mentally there. like she says shes crazy all the time and im starting to genuinely believe her. she's not coming from a place of hate, she has a really good heart and good intentions, shes just kinda ignorant. no one is perfect especially celebrities and our culture makes us think they are. Lana is a singer who makes music, shes not a moral compass or political speaker, looking at her for stuff like that is just silly. if you take this kind of stuff with a grain of salt and just humorous, and just enjoy her music, youll enjoy her much more!

I just listened to this, and while it had a few good moments, I can’t stop wondering if she’s doing okay. It’s either she’s on meds, or going through something.

And there are a lot of things that she said are incredibly unnecessary and actually might make the backlash even bigger.

I think she better stay away from social media and live interviews for a while. She’s just making things worse

PARADIXO's 'Chemtrails over the Country Club' analysis

So, as LDR said, this album is very inspired by her family and friends. The release of Violet Bent Backwards over the Grass opened to us yet another door to her past: her childhood in Lake Placid and her troubled relationship with her upper-class family, especially her mother. Therefore, in order to understand pretty much everything from this album we have to see it from this point of view. In this song, we see both modern Lana and young Lizzy escaping out of the country club. Lizzy out of Lake Placid elite and LDR out of Los Angeles elite.

The title alone evokes a sense of silent danger - she could see the evil in these people but couldn't say a thing. "Wearing our jewels in the swimming pool / Me and my sister just playing it cool / Under the chemtrails over the country club," perhaps this is a memory of her being close only to her sister Chuck. "I'm not unhinged or unhappy, I'm just wild" - As the introvert that she is, I imagine this as her in a family event or whatever, poker-faced and her parents being mad at her. "It's beautiful, I'll escape / Normality settles down over me / I'm not bored or unhappy / I'm still so strange and wild." Same situation, but this time I think it's more about her escaping Los Angeles cult-like elite. "I'm still so strange," nothing has changed, she's still the 'underdog' they turned her into back in the country club.

Regarding the love-related lines in the lyrics, I can connect them to "Let Me Love You Like a Woman", which was about revisiting a lover from the past (at least metaphorically, as we're sure some songs from this album will be about Sean). Young Lizzy has met a guy she likes and she'll escape the club with him... and we know what happened later (which makes me excited for more revealing stuff on Behind the Iron Gates). "Well I don't care what they think / Drag racing my little red sports car." Maybe they didn't like this guy or he wasn't part of their group. Then adult Lana meets a new lover who reminds her of this past love, but I like to think that she meets the very same guy (again, a metaphor) and they want to try it again now that they're free: "Late night to be, I want you holding me / Like when we were kids / Under chemtrails and country clubs," and then, "It's never too late, baby, so don't give up."

The astonishing music video depicts all of this. The little girl, in my opinion, is her younger self. The scene where they're together is Lizzy alone in the mansion, and there she is an adult taking care of her (of herself) when nobody did. First we see Lana in the mirror dolling up herself and then the girl doing the same thing. We see very fast-paced images of Lana with a sad face, like she doesn't want to be there.

She's escaping out of the country club in her car, and then she has an accident, that being a metaphor to life hitting her hard once she forced herself to become independent. She had to learn the tough way and became wild yet strong. She found her own group of family and friends, hence the wolf symbolism (Wolves are independent and solitary animals but also have an incredible skill to create and protect inseparable herds; Maybe the wolf is her spirit animal?).

ignoring how capitalism is the reason for the way the US functions and instead focusing on narcissism (which goes hand in hand with capitalism) is kinda strange to me

edit: i mean capitalism IS the way the us functions

Probably wanted to relate how her music predicts the current events

Like I remember her saying that the pandemic, a large scale event, forced people to think about what’s actually wrong in their own lives, which is a theme she supposedly touches upon in her songs all the time

    idk

This interview will be forgotten. Whatever dumb things Lana says these days is dwarfed by the news. People hardly cared about evermore’s deluxe album that came out last week
