Yeah you need to take a few steps back for sure. I don't like Billie, I haven't even listened to her album (yet) but it's ridiculous how there's at least five posts per page talking shit about her ever since she released her album. I just think it's sad how a lot of people in this thread are coming for a 16 yo like she's the reason why Lana is a lazy bitch who doesn't want to work   just forget about the poor girl, let her enjoy her moment and lets focus our energy on the people who are really at fault here: Lana, her managers and interscope.

I'm starting to think y'all are secretly obsessed with Billie but are trying to look cool and pretend you don't like her...

there's nothing better to talk about really. She does have the album of the quarter, of course.

I thought about this some more, and although it's very plausible that this is the reason this era has been messy, I have a few small problems with it. It'd be too ironic since Billie's album isn't as "happy" or "mainstream pop" as other artists her age- just as Lana's debut with them wasn't either. They've wanted her to change producers, change the sound of her music throughout the years, but they know by now that Lana will still sell albums and tickets because she has a strong fan base and they love what she puts out. Yeah, this is Billie's first album so they probably did want a period of time for most of the public focus to be on her, but still, why not set Lana's date before the 29th? Lana said herself the album was done in January. It really has to be the poetry book. Add to the great reviews Lana's been getting- more praise than what she's gotten in years- it'd be really strange for them not to take advantage of the hype to release NFR. Ariana did it in an even less time b/w albums, so why not Lana? I didn't even think Hope is a Dangerous Thing would be as well known as MAC or VB but we've seen a lot of people online talking about it, praising it, sharing and listening to it. With the release of MAC and VB, I think Lana always intended NFR to be lighter than her previous albums, but still maintain that "introspective sad girl shit". I don't think her behavior is tied to the label because we already saw hints of it during those interviews. "She's trying to get back at her record label for postponing her release in favor of rookie Billie after all her years of hard work putting out albums, and she's also building the world and image of NFR for us." And the thing about that is.... the visuals have been sub-par to me. Has she been building a world and image for this album (maybe for the poetry book), because I feel like I missed it...

It's just not a successful attempt if the theories are true. Especially the "insta baddie" thing. If this is Lana being petty, she could do better because right now it's just cringey to me.

I kind of remember people saying on here that Lana was actually the threat to Billie's release, and that Billie wasn't going to make the numbers she's making now because her fan base is too specific and smaller than Lana's. It's really awkward reading these posts now- and I've been a fan of Lana for years- it's weird to me that people are being threatened by a 17 year-old artist (love her music btw). I get the frustration, but let's not get carried away.

are y'all delusional? WHY are you all taking down another artist in defense of a person you never met and don't know because you feel personally attacked that nfr isn't out? are you stupid or just childish? i don't really think lana was going to 'outshine' billie's release. yes, lana does have a huge fanbase, but billie also does. and billie also has the advantage of a 'debut album' release where people might just listen to it because she's new. stop being petty for lana's sake... like i don't think that one would top the other if released on the same day, you act like people can't buy more than one album if released at the same time. and even if that were the case and they were both released as stated, billie would probably still sell more because of what i stated above. also lana still has the stigma of writing very particular music and it doesn't age well over time with the general music scene, like no one is doing it and no one really looks for it outside of expecting it from lana so what do y'all actually expect to happen? it's so sad to watch this

why so much animosity towards billie?? she seems like a nice kid? and if she's doing well then why can't we be happy for her?? we don't even know what happens behind the scenes anyways like if she really is the reason nfr has been delayed but even so she likely doesn't have a choice in this and she seems like she's a big fan of lana anyways

u guys seriously need to step back sometimes and learn how to voice ur frustrations/anger without insults

n e ways like someone else mentioned above do yall think lana will be at the met gala this year? the theme is Camp: Notes On Fashion and Alessandro Michelle said "camp really means the unique ability of combining high art and pop culture; it is not kitsch" so what do you think she could be wearing if she does show up? Harry Styles is one of the met gala chairs this year and he has a gucci campaign as well.. they're not going together obviously and if lana even goes at all... but i hope at least their outfits would be cohesive if she did show up like how her and jared's outfits matched and stuff. i really hope she attends, she looked so cute in that little green dress and gold earrings from whatever event that was earlier i'm still i want more

Production-wise it's amazing but I feel like dont smile at me was much MUCH better in terms of her voice and melodies... especially when most of the songs on the album sound like literally from the same scheme and she's constantly using this half-whispered edgy voice... but well she's still just a kid so I'm excited for her anyway!

Also lowkey wish she'd release music under a duo with Finneas, at this point I'm not convinced what's her part in this whole project, it sounds like it's mainly her brother's work and he's so talented he could literally make anything sound good with these skills.

Idk where else to write this but I miss when stanning Lana was actually fun. Even though the LFL era could have been better, I remember being so excited and positive about the whole thing. Lately it's hard to be excited about anything because she herself is kind of brushing off her art like it doesn't mean that much to her. I mean yeah she is excited about the poetry book but she forgets that she was always a visual artist. Why is she abandoning that side of things? Remember when she said she wanted to live her life like a work of art? I'm sorry but where is the art? Perhaps as a fandom we have been too used to consistent releases... but idk... this just doesn't feel the same

I miss her higher pitched voice that she uses on some of her unreleased songs (don't come for me I'm shit at describing things  )

People who say Video Games is her best music video ever have no personality whatsoever.

FJDJFX now seriously, in my opinion you can't compare a random homemade video like VD to something like Ride or National Anthem. And the money spent behind a music video has nothing to do with the quality of it (ex: white mustang), but I think you CAN'T prefer a bunch of random vintage footage over a music video that 1. looks good 2. has a whole plotline 3. follow an overall nice aesthetic.

Honestly, I am ready for my upcoming crucifixion for this post, but here goes..

I get this is a public forum where we can post our opinions, whether they are positive or negative. However, I feel recently there has been unnecessary criticism towards Lana. This includes her recent BUKU performance - I don't see why what she wears and how much make-up she puts on matters so much, and of course her setlist is going to be less stan-friendly (because she is rightly tailoring it for a festival). As well as this, other areas seem to receive so much backlash at the moment, and I really struggle to understand why, e.g., her poetry, her friends, her instagram posts, her current lifestyle (excluding hillsong of course), her appearance when in public as well as on stage, her vocals on stage (I personally think they are still brilliant, but we struggle to notice this because the playback is too loud), etc. Firstly, if we only focus on the negative, then that is all we are going to see. Secondly, do all these things that we are criticising really matter? Why do we care so much about what she wears, or what instagram filter she uses, or that she likes to attend yoga and drink matcha tea? We are all here because we have a special connection to Lana and her music (I am assuming), and that seems to be lost for a lot of people here. I think we need to take a step back, let Lana be herself and live her life without so much judgement, and be more accepting/forgiving/tolerating as a fan base. Once we do that, there will be a happier fan base who can fall back in love with Lana again (for those who may have lost their connection, as I notice quite a few members seem to feel this way).

Anyway, thank you for coming to my TEDtalk.
