  1. I see Lana/Lizzy/Elizabeth (whoever she is) as a story writer using her life. I honestly see her more as the quiet, weird, quirky girl who kept to herself and kinda lived in her own fantasy world growing up. I think she grew interested in the themes we see during the Lizzy Grant period (crazy, wild, Lolita, white trash, etc.) and she created a persona out of that and tried to do her best to live that out of pure interest in those themes. Then, when that wasn't gaining enough popularity and after pressure from her label, she had to try to reinvent herself again, which led to the creation of the Lana that was formed in Born to Die. Some of the themes from the Lizzy era continued or evolved, but instead of being the wild, quirky, white trash Lolita, she became the dark, dramatic, desperate, high-class, vintage depressed girl in Born to Die. The LDR persona has evolved since then (less Lolita references, less high-class, less depressing), and now she seems to be bouncing around between jazz, rock, vintage, and hip hop-inspired, while dark, dramatic, and vintage remain the recurring themes. Since LDR was the persona she got famous for, she's stuck with it. Who knows how much of that persona is her true personality, but she herself has admitted to writing about things she never experienced and admitted BTD Lana was a persona if i recall correctly.
  2. I've really come to appreciate the Lizzy Grant persona over the past year or so. The AKA album is so good, but so incredibly unique and quirky. There is no other music close to it. Lana also has a shitload of unreleased songs that were written (I'm assuming) when she saw herself more as Lizzy Grant. The songs were so batshit crazy (in lyrics and how she sang them), and they were a lot more pop and rough around the edges, but that's what made them so fun and unique. I love Lana and how she's matured both musically and personally, and I like that we're getting bits of a Lizzy sound in some of her newer songs nowadays, but I really do miss the Lizzy persona. I miss the quirky, wild, crazy, immature, upbeat, badass, arrogant white trash version of Lana. Lana still never fails to impress me musically (I'm absolutely in love with Venice Bitch), but I would love to see what she would come up with channeling Lizzy nowadays. I don't think she's released an upbeat song since AKA, except maybe Florida Kilos.
  3. I never knew I wanted Lana to go this direction, but now that I've heard it, it's just so fucking good. She never lets me down musically, I swear.
  4. I haven’t listened to Venice Bitch yet but I hate the album title js
  5. Not certain how I feel about the song yet. I think it might grow on me. The lyrics are mature and a refreshing change from her usual talking points. I do think the video fits the song well. I hope the entire album doesn't sound like this though.
  6. Mermaid Motel Kill Kill Jump For K, Pt. 2 Queen of the Gas Station Pawn Shop Blues Oh Say Can You See Put Me in a Movie Brite Lites Gramma (Blue Ribbon Sparkler Trailer Heaven) Smarty Raise Me Up (Mississippi South) Not ranking Yayo because hearing it on Paradise before I heard it on AKA messed up my ability to judge it and I tend to skip it on this album. I find it really interesting how much my music taste has changed over the years. When I first started listening to AKA, Kill Kill and Gramma would've been my top 2 hands down. Now, while I still think Gramma is really good, I find it a bit boring compared to the quirkiness and personality of the other songs on the album. The only song I really don't like is Raise Me Up because I find the intro so obnoxious and I just can't get into it.
  7. Are You Ready Now? is extremely, extremely, extremely underrated
  8. Lizzy honestly seems like that weird, loner girl who was in her own little world that everyone thought was crazy, avoided her, and just nodded and agreed with out of pity when they had to deal with her.
  9. the Cedric Gervais remix of Summertime Sadness is just as good as the original, and sometimes, better.
  10. I legitimately forgot this song existed for years until now that you just brought it up tbh
  11. I really like Tomorrow Never Came. I don't really voluntarily listen to it, but when it comes on shuffle or when I'm listening to the album, I really enjoy it. It also gets stuck in my head like no other Lana song does, and I'm not sure why.
  12. Coachella - Woodstock on My Mind is a BOP. Seriously. I understand the song sounds cheap and demo-like, but the melody of the chorus, and the chorus in general, is so good.
  13. Born to Die and Paradise easily. Best videos, best looks, great photoshoots, she was new and growing. Everything was exciting. She just kept her momentum going with Paradise and released Tropico and Ride and gave great live performances (iTunes Festival 2012). All the rest of the eras have been boring and just music to me. UV has a nice aesthetic and looks, but her videos and eras have been boring for me ever since Paradise ended.
  14. I can't remember which was first. I think it was either Born to Die or Blue Jeans. I saw the video for one of them and was instantly hooked. Started watching the rest of the videos she had released at the time which were Born to Die, Blue Jeans, and Video Games.
  15. I'm having some serious internal conflict and need some insight. Lana is coming here on tour, and there are still Standing GA tickets available. Not only is Lana coming, but Kali Uchis is coming with her, and she's one of my favorite artists too. I don't think either of them have ever come to my city, so them coming together at the same time is pretty big for me. However, I actually don't really like concerts. I've just generally never really had a great experience with them, especially GA tickets. I feel like every time I go to a concert, I just have so much time wasted waiting on things. Like waiting in line to get in, waiting for the opening acts to start, waiting for each opening act to come out, and then by the time the actual artist comes out, I'm pretty much done with everything and can't even enjoy it that much. Not to mention, there can be a lot of drama that can come from GA tickets. Also, tickets are $96.50 not including tax or TicketMaster fees, and I'd want to get two (one for me and one for my boyfriend for Christmas), but that's a lot of money. I'm a college student. Spending over $200 just for one night when I'm not even sure that I'd enjoy it that much makes me even more apprehensive about it. But then again, I'll probably never get this chance to see two of my favorite artists on the same night, and who knows when they'll ever come again, especially with how many tickets are still available. What should I do?
  16. No, it's just one of those things that's really hard to get into. You can't just send unreleased stuff to someone without something in return, or you lose your value of your currency (the music) or your credibility within the trading community. Once the songs you have get leaked, you have no leverage to get more unreleased songs. Do you agree with that all the labels for sexuality, preferences, gender, etc. are necessary?
  17. Wow, she’s coming here for the first time ever and with Kali Uchis. I lowkey hate concerts but I feel obligated to go
  18. Fact: Cherry, White Mustang, and Heroin are the best 3 songs on the album.
  19. i've had Tomorrow Never Came stuck in my head literally all day. please send help
