Honestly my hopes for the next Marina album center around some shit she's said in the past. She's talked about greek mythology before IIRC and wanting to do an album around that, and I personally think that would be the move to make. I'm going to pick my words carefully and deliberately here - L&F was a low point in her discography, and I do think that Ancient Beans WAS a step up sonically and a return to the ~energy of "old Marina", despite lyrically being VERY pegged to the zeitgeist of it's creation.

I feel like the way to do a "clean slate" here is to just go feral with a whole ass concept album and step into a different person(s)/persona(s).

I'd LOVE to see her go back to that greek mythology idea and give us a concept album, and even find a way to work in some of that New Woke Feminism she always getting criticized about. Write a tortured ballad from the perspective of Persephone. Sing about being tricked by a man to eat the pomegranate seeds, sing about how it doesn't get easier spending all the time away from the sun, small slices of your time stolen from a man who felt you were his to take and his to trick. Metaphor up the lack of choice for a woman in it, and how so many things are seen as 'duty' because a man deemed it so.

Flip shit around too, go wild. Rewrite the whole concept of 'Pandora's Box' into something more lighthearted and fun. Give us an uptempo bop about a girl who was bored with the world and there she found a box filled with chaos and wonder and she set it all free, the good and the bad, just for the contrast it all brings. Was it a little bit stupid to unleash evil on the world? Sure, but now it makes all of the good that much better because we all know what "worse" looks like, and it's the space in-between that we should have a little fun with now.

I feel like Eros, Aphrodite, and Psyche would be a 'perfect' story to Marina-fy, since it deals with jealous women and game playing and the absurdity of it all, and how even if you manage to adhere to impossible beauty standards (Aphrodite's three impossible tasks), it's *still* not enough. There's a whole lot of "jealous woman" stereotype shit in there, that would be absolutely low hanging fruit to hit with the Marina Bat of "women should build each other up, ugh".

I feel like, in the spirit of something like "How to be a Heartbreaker", do a fun take on 'Helen of Troy' and the whole Trojan War (to go hand in hand with my idea of "rewriting" Pandora's Box to be a bit more fun); Helen was bored af of her man, she wanted a little excitement, she decided to mess around with a man on the side, and now we're at "Oops I sparked a war, lets make it his fault, tee hee hee, look at that, the gods are all protecting me, dames can get away with it all" or some shit.

Have I said this before? I feel like I have.

Idk. But it would be nice to see.

Apparently, it’s not uncommon for celebs to do interviews like this via email.

I can see why she’d prefer email because she’d have more time to choose the right words and get her point across in a way that can’t be misconstrued as opposed to being put on the spot in a phone call. Plus, this is such a hard and raw topic - she probably didn’t want to get emotional in front of the interviewer. I think email was a smart choice from her

I love how the strings sound a bit off harmonically (I think the word I mean is dissonance but I’m not sure) for a quick sec when they slide up from the bridge to the last chorus of ocean blvd.

And can’t forget to include when she whispers “spirits creeping” in raise me up

Some of the fans (especially those on tiktok) calling Lana "mother" or "mommy" everywhere is kinda cringe and kinda.. creepy idk how  that goes for other fandoms too who call their idols 'mommy' or 'daddy', that's just so cringe, I just can't help that...

i think i see what you guys are talking about, i see that she also has a marilyn monroe tattoo

i can understand that maybe the person who has the tattoo is just interested in old hollywood or elizabeth short as a person, but getting a tattoo of her, a murder victim, and having the tattoo labeled as "black dahlia" instead of her real name is very disrespectful and just wrong, honestly i don't think there's any reason to have a tattoo of her in the first place because she isn't even known as an old hollywood actress, just as a murder victim

it reminds me of jeffree star's (i know he's a garbage human-being but still) jonbenet ramsey tattoo... i believe he was going for a "dead beauty queen" sort of thing because he also has tattoos of marilyn monroe and sharon tate, and i don't think it's necessarily wrong to have tattoos of them because ultimately they are known for their careers (although the whole dead beauty queen thing isn't very nice) but a tattoo of a murdered six year-old-girl is just horrible, people suck

About the choices for a tattoo, to each their own ones I guess.

Representing Elizabeth Short, who underwent the worst possible fate, almost as some kind of Halloween character... Yes, gruesome and absolutely disrespectful.

Damn. Not judging the intentions of the tattoo owner, but its disturbing to see at the very least.

Yeah, they’re not mad at Lana, they just think it’s a disrespectful tattoo considering Elizabeth Short’s story and murder, and that the tattoo refers to her as Black Dahlia and not her real name. I think the discussion would’ve been different if the tattoo wasn’t a portrait of her after her death, with the scars and stuff.

I don’t think people are mad at Lana. I think people are more just weirded out someone would get that tattooed on their body
