From a lyrical perspective, I’m still stunned at how much growth Lana’s had as an artist in the past few years.

I mean, Lana has always peppered in pop culture references in her work, but I find TUOB’s (such as with Hotel California and Nilsson’s Don’t Forget Me) to be almost necessary additions to the song. They aren’t just nods to similar themes or musical interests of hers: they’re irreplaceable elements of the track.

Similarly, while Lana’s certainly no stranger to immersing her listeners in sensory details, her describing of, “Mosaic ceilings, painted tiles on the wall,” not only provides the visual landscape of the track, but it also serves as an intentional device to compare the tunnel’s rich inner existence to her own.

Even in a broader sense, the lyricism is incredibly original and largely strays from cliches while still managing to be relatable in a work full of hyper-specificities.

She is seriously in a league of her own!

okay so idk who's gonna read this but the song finally clicked for me and this is my personal take on the meaning.
i saw someone on here talking about Lana singing often about beauty and youth, and listening to Ocean Blvd i can really see that.
when she opens the song with "Did u know...?"
almost like flipping through a photo album and telling us about this beautiful tunnel that not everybody knows about but that was once gorgeous and open for people to see, almost like someone showing you photos of when they were younger and telling you about what their life was like.
when she says "open me up tell me you like it" to me it's almost like "will you still love me when i'm no longer young and beautiful"
like time is passing but tell me that if you open me up you can still like me, i can still turn you on (fuck me to death)
and obviously the "don't forget me like the tunnel under ocean blvd" cause she knows time is passing but she's still trying to make herself worth of something, she's trying to show that she's still young and beautiful and doesnt wanna be forgotten cause she's still shining.

at the end of the day, she is the tunnel.

idk my take on it no one's gonna read this long ass post lmaooo

Everything you said is so beautiful, ty for the analysis
One of the reasons that made me fall in love with her music is her vulnerability , the fact that she does not shy away from her feelings and turns them into art.  Her music makes me feel that being sensitive and feeling things so deeply is not a disadvantage but something to be proud of .
  13. smith liked a post in a topic by Venice Jesus Whore in Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd
No super deep analysis here, but to me, she's comparing herself to the forgotten tunnel. Her inner beauty/personality is like the "mosaic ceilings, painted tiles on the wall" of the tunnel, but no man has wanted to explore her inner beauty/personality. They suppress it instead, just like the walls that form the structure of the tunnel but are covered with the mosaic painted tiles on the inside ("Handmade beauty sealed up by two man-made walls").

No men have cared enough to actually get to know the real her. She wants to know when it's her turn for a man to actually love her for her ("When's it gonna be my turn?") The suppression and apathy around her true self causes her to lose confidence in herself, relying on sex and his supposed love to make her love herself again ("Fuck me to death, love me until I love myself").

The woman in the second verse feels like another metaphor for Lana and the tunnel. She sings Hotel California, not because she enjoys it, but because she thinks it's what men want from her and will lure them in enough to want to know her inner beauty.

These lines are underrated. All of her men are suppressing her inner beauty with their man-made walls.

actually knowing this woman and especially knowing that she doesn’t have anything to actually release tomorrow, the announcement is probably going to come at like 1:48pm PST or something

And then when they say "No, but what's that got to do with it?"

you sit them down with two hot cups of tea on vintage lounge chairs and give the spoken equivalent of a 1000 word LB analyzation thread/post on how the album tells about Lana's love life, family history, and the personal growth she experienced during that time. And that she went on to earn her first Grammy for it, but didn't even attend the ceremony bc she was far past the need for approval from the same people who built her up 300 ft tall just to eventually tear her down.

The way she's literally giving us one of the most iconic and majestic album names imaginable and some people are wishing she had simplified to Ocean Blvd like some sweater in a Florida beach gift shop

This title. It's spooky, there's a mythic air to it, like children whispering the town secret to each other, like the old witch that lives at the end of the road, " Did you know there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd". I fucking love it

okay but you guys don't understand! THIS IS GOING TO BE HER OCEANIC/BEACHY/FLORIDA ALBUM!

this is definitely the tunnel she's referring to, since it has paintings on the walls

also, the album is being released during pisces season!
