I don’t understand what the Pitchfork review was trying to say

Just describe the music for once

One of my best friends just told me they don't like White Dress, and while I get it, I'm also lowkey trying not to be annoyed about it.

I’m happy this album is in a theme again like her previous albums were except for BtD. It’s something I kinda missed on NFR!

I played Yosemite in the store I work at today. There was a costumer by appointment and she recognized Lana because of NFR! So, I really like the direction she is taking now.

I am absolutely obsessing over White Dress today. It truly is a career highlight of hers.

I don't know how to explain it, but it's one of those songs I'm surprised got released because it seems like a song we shouldn't hear - she sounds like she's in so much pain and despair and wrote and sang the song as sort of a personal release, not necessarily for an album. (Of course, I'm so thankful she decided to record and release it!) I haven't felt this way about a Lana song since Fine China.

I loved How to Disappear on NFR but Wild at Heart blows it out of the water. The instrumental bridge in HTD seems kinda filler now

Yeah I agree with what you’re saying. Like you said she was quiet about political issues for a long time and that was in her interest. I was happy that she was here for the music (which she’s amazing at) and that’s it. I’m not here for my favourite singers starting to talk about politics cause that’s often when they get problematic.
I kind of respected her and liked her because of how honest her lyrics were regarding her experiences of abuse especially during ultraviolence. I never thought she was necessarily glamorising these issues. She made sadness an acceptable and powerful topic to talk about and normalised it in her songwriting in beautiful ways.
You’re absolutely right when saying that she has done cultural appropriation before (the Native American head dress in the Ride video is the one I can mostly remember). It’s a shame she gets so defensive about everything on social media. Instead of posting some of the great reviews which have come out in the last few days about the album (and again the vast majority of them are praising it so much) she chooses once again to focus on the negative.
She just needs to keep talking about her sad melancholic glamorous life in her songs and stop engaging with the critics in the way that she does. And also listen to POC saying they got offended by some of her comments.

White Dress is the ultimate ice skating song, with or without the music video.

I was reading old interviews during the NFR era and Lana said she had thought what songs would go best to a skating program and if she could incorporate herself skating into a MV. We all know how that turned out...

The whole album is about the burden of fame, but this song is the only one that talks about her singing (in the street). This reminds me of the Rolling Stone interview she did with Elton John where she reminisced that there was a freedom starting out as a musician because it was fun, nobody really judged you.

In her Lizzy Grant, early BTD days, she leaned into the whole image of a tragic, Lolita/Marilyn Monroe type figure. Critics thought it was a persona, and the backlash was intense, perhaps in a white hot way. But her fixation with these women is tied to how she thought it was thrilling to be the object of the male gaze. I read “look how I do this/ look how I got this” as a subversion of the fragile female trope because she turns it into a performance that she controls.

Lana is older now. She probably looks back at these days wistfully, and maybe she still wishes she could tap into that although it’s no longer part of her current singer-songwriter “street cred.” Maybe that’s what QFTC was about, wishing she could reclaim a freedom of performance that was taken away from her.

But this song was like done in one take, so this could be an over analysis or projection

If it’s a Zach Dawes production, Arctic Monkeys’ AM type of rock?  or my personal fave, Humbug
