I don't listen to Born to Die as much as I used to.  Otherwise, most of her work is timeless for me. I adore every lyrics, even the corny or cringy ones. Lana's music always had a special place in my heart because I've always felt like I was listening to a novel. I can always picture the landscape, the action, the protagonists, the story, so every time I'm listening to a song, I just have these images in my head. It feels like I'm re-reading my favorite books. Also, each song gives me a different feeling which I love to explore all over again. It's a really special thing I can't really explain, but I can say that I don't know any other artist who can do the same to me.

I can't talk about the production since I don't know shit about that, but nothing seems dated for me. But then again, I'm no musician or whatever, so...

Production-wise, I would say BTD has aged pretty bad. The singles are still amazing, but I do understand now why critics were saying that the album is over-produced. It's just too much going on and I never fully enjoyed her old style of singing...

I find Paradise more sophisticated than BTD tho. That's why to me, Paradise is a different era and I consider it as being a "normal" album, not just an EP.

Ultraviolence and LFL still stand the test of time, although not entirely.

Honeymoon still sounds amazing & fresh and that's why it remains my favourite album of hers.

I think the only album that has not quote on quote "aged well" in her discography is 'Lust for Life'. For starter, it's probably her only album that feels anchored into a specific time and place, with its social/political commentaries/references thrown here and there. But also, like other people have said, the production, the trap beats in most songs, it just screams 2016/17. It sounded easy and cheap back then, and still does now. Even with 'NFR!', an album that I don't particularly appreciate, I think is still going to sound decent in 10 years.

LFL aged like milk but it already did when it released

BTD though a tiny bit dated now still is extremely pleasant to listen to. Some lyrics have aged ("But I wish I dead" makes me cringe so hard) well at all but that's just BC Lana has matured into a better songwriter for the most part anyway. I think some of the themes of BTD are still relatable and only get stronger with age. Video Games, Carmen and Million Dollar Man are timeless. As they carry the classic tropes of love, the danger of fame, heartbreak etc Themes in music that are eternal. They are written in a way that anyone from any age can relate to whole heartedly. Unlike tracks like TIWMUG or Blue Jeans which slowly become less relatable, once you get older and more emotionally grounded. I think that in truth is a small factor in what makes an album dated.

Anyway thank you for coming to my TED talk.

BtD is sounding a bit aged because of its overproduction, LFL aged badly like a month after with songs like IMF or Coachella...still love the both of them though <3

For me, it is Born to Die. I used to love this album so much, it started my love to Lana, but as Lana was changing, so was my music taste I guess (in the same direction fortunately). Now, I find this album very overproduced. But the biggest crime is what they did with Lana's voice. On practically all the other albums, I can feel that Lana is singing with her natural voice, but in Born to Die, both her low and high ranges sound so unnatural, especially in songs like Off To The Races, Blue Jeans, Summertime Sadness, Dark Paradise, Carmen, Lolita... I think it was not only her singing style, but also weird postproduction effects... I am really happy that with Ultraviolence she decided not to continue this "pop" path... And I am really, really curious how Born to Die would sound is she (re)recorded it today.

Lust for Life is the only LDR album that hasn't aged like wine, imo. That 'trap beat' aesthetic just feels a bit too forced, it doesn't have the same timeless quality as the luscious reverbed guitars or sweeping cinematic orchestras from her other albums. It's still a beautiful album though, some of the songs stand very strongly on their own.

LFL is gonna hit very hard when the late-2010s nostalgia starts kicking in, tbh. I'm calling it if we're still alive in 10 years

Born To Die is reminiscent of our cringy Tumblr years, which I know we have all tried to repress for years. I think that inherently dates the album lol

Except for for Video Games that bitch is timeless

Both BTD & Paradise have aged badly IMO (paradise slightly less so bc I think the production is so much better than BTD, but still has some things that feel v specifically early ‘10s to me). but I know there’s plenty of ppl who feel differently. Everything else remains perfection. LFL places itself really specifically time-wise w some of the lyrics (Coachella etc) but I don’t think its actual sound is dated.

someone mentioned it before but old money has defo aged. i used to love it back in 2015/16 and now i cant stand it when it comes on.

also IMO the majority of LFL aged + diet mountain dew

I find BTD much easier to listen to than Paradise, but I have the same exact sentiment about both. I aged

BTD reminds me of being a cirngey 13 year old and thinking I could relate to the lyrics, so for that reason I can’t listen to it. But it’s not that it aged, i did lol

change and the greatest are perfect political songs cause they're not too on the nose and they can be interpreted in many different ways based on how you relate to them.

Also agree with @Bunny Mozart about the political tracks, although I still adore "Change" (even though it's not political but more humanistic and universal). GBA is the best of the political trifecta of LFL imo.

I feel like her political songs have aged pretty badly like Coachella for example. What's funny is that I find her unreleased stuff to have aged SO well like idk...if she released those songs today I think people would love them. Didn't some of her old unreleased music get a lot of good exposure on TikTok? Her mind

Will get killed for this, but "Paradise" is the only LDR project that has aged for me. I find most of the songs hard not to skip over. Mostly because the production sounds very jarring on some tracks, such as "American" and "Body Electric" (even though I do still like this one)

I don't feel like I can relate to "Ride" anymore. Something about the Paradise project shifted for me and I have trouble connecting to it.
