Fingertips being at the bottom of the streams is a tragedy, but I see nothing greek in it

those unreleased/unfinished songs are no better than Ocean Blvd. clean your ears.

I think people are mainly saying this because the amount of work she seemed to put into TUOB and how ‘major’ the album seems (not uncommon to hear people say during the pre-release “I haven’t been this excited for an album from her since NFR”) .

I see it a bit as closure for all of her newer’ albums and to say it’s more similar to NFR vs. COCC vs BB is a bit pointless because it draws from all of them (for example, saying that the singer-songwriter songs are more similar to BB when LFL/NFR introduced them to her discography in the first place). This album’s an amalgamation of all of the sounds and themes of these albums (even some parts of LFL). I will point out though that it does literally end with an NFR song and samples NFR more than any of her other albums, i don’t blame people for some of their opinions on their similarities

They are deaf, probably. None of the leaked tracks is better than A&W, even if combined.

There's definitely some nostalgia factor with unreleased tracks that causes them to get praised disproportionately. I've seen someone claim that Earthquakes is better than A&W. If it was the other way around and Lana would have released Earthquakes and A&W was the unreleased one then this forum would have a meltdown about how Lana is always "stripping back" her instrumentals.

probably but if not she likely had friends that did that kind of work and deeply empathized with it

i’m sorry but i really don’t think this is the follow-up to nfr… in my opinion 1) they’re really different as this one is so much more inspired, experimental, it is miles ahead in terms of lyrical content and variety. i get that nfr is much more liked than chemtrails or blue banisters but 2) objectively this album is much more a continuation of blue banisters than of nfr. the reasons for this are the piano ballads which sound much more like blue banisters than nfr (vocally and production wise), the family themes, the introspection, the multiple references to her past, the somewhat political lines, the allusions to the critics, this is all reminiscent of blue banisters and not of nfr. honestly it doesn’t make sense to erase chemtrails and blue banisters just because they’re disliked when this record is in many ways a continuation of blue banisters and in no way a continuation of nfr, whether it be in terms of vocals, in terms of lyrics, in terms of production

    I think the otherwise.

NFR and COCC have a connection. NFR first starts out as an ode to LA, but she feels burnout towards the end of the album (The Greatest). COCC is about leaving LA, escapism, going to ranch, finding comfort with friends and families (Dance Till We Die). Between two albums we had Looking for America (in terms of recording time), which connects the two album perfectly.

BB and OB have a connection: BB starts with theme she left at COCC, but then the theme is mostly "I'm this, don't change me" (Arcadia,BBS,Violets and Roses, Beautiful etc.). She explains why she is like this opening up things she had never before (Textbook, WFWF etc.). The album ends with her sister having a baby. Then OB adds to this, she starts with the family theme she left at BB and opens up more about why she is like this (Fingertips).

Yeah it is not this big thing some people here are praising. I am not convinced.

i remember that in the pre-release thread someone said something like ''wait until 2 weeks after the album release and then all the praise will be gone ''. and holy shit was that person right. and btw, whoever is saying she didn't do anything new in Ocean Blvd is either lying or tone-deaf.

Every person who denies is this just truly trying to convince themselves it’s not true.

Lana needs to do something new, and no OB didn’t include anything new.

i wish lana’s growth took the path of NFR rather than what we have now (many of you would argue that it has but there is a STARK difference between the style of NFR and the style of OB).

after sitting with the album and the newness wearing off, i like a few songs but dont often feel compelled to come back to the album. i dont relate to most of the lyrical material, i dont find a lot of the melodies to be that compelling, i completely understood what the album was about on first listen, and it doesnt cultivate any sort of atmosphere for me. some songs are career highlights but for the most part, i could take or leave this album.

maybe lana’s new direction isnt really for me anymore  i can appreciated her growth and the music shes putting out n i love her to death as a person but idk… nothing will compare to her earlier music for me. i just cant make myself enjoy it as much.
