How tf does she even come up with the idea to write a song about a 70 year old tunnel

For once I'm genuinely impressed, all the covers are amazing. She ate on every single one of them. 

i'm already claiming a&w, it's giving trips to the mall at 9am, hibiscus flowers tied to a tiled-wall, jump and for k, pt. 2, bright-colored eye shadow, americana, kitsch, smiles, cloudy skies with a hint of blue, garage-sales, lost memories, nostalgia, elusiveness, yes, it does...

holy shit the song is SO GOOD.

The harmonies at the end ''DONT FORGET ME'' is sending me to heaven. Take me to church mama! 

My fav lead single since Mariners.

No super deep analysis here, but to me, she's comparing herself to the forgotten tunnel. Her inner beauty/personality is like the "mosaic ceilings, painted tiles on the wall" of the tunnel, but no man has wanted to explore her inner beauty/personality. They suppress it instead, just like the walls that form the structure of the tunnel but are covered with the mosaic painted tiles on the inside ("Handmade beauty sealed up by two man-made walls"). 
 
No men have cared enough to actually get to know the real her. She wants to know when it's her turn for a man to actually love her for her ("When's it gonna be my turn?") The suppression and apathy around her true self causes her to lose confidence in herself, relying on sex and his supposed love to make her love herself again ("Fuck me to death, love me until I love myself").
 
The woman in the second verse feels like another metaphor for Lana and the tunnel. She sings Hotel California, not because she enjoys it, but because she thinks it's what men want from her and will lure them in enough to want to know her inner beauty.

The leaked Fingertips snippet likely isn't the final song since it's only 2:17 minutes long and seems to only have sparse piano instrumentals, which doesn't sound like how Lana described it in the letter.

she seems so happy with this record. seems complete too, her past two records haven't felt thought out and perfected like this one has. i'm so proud of her

That tells me that the snippets of tunnel and fingertips that leaked months back definitely came from the theft since that clearly sounded like a voice note from her iCloud. That’s sad  I’m glad they didn’t leak fully. 

That note on her Instagram is so sweet. Lana really does seem so proud of this album, it only makes the era more exciting 

On her insta post she says there's a recording of her pastors sermon so it could just be like in the background

Just got home from work. I never expected anything less, but I am blown away. The song is one of the most gorgeous tracks she has ever made. It is existential, lush, poetic, with beautiful instrumentation. It reminds me so much of Ride in many ways. Wow. The album covers are really nice! I will be ordering the Amazon exclusive

I understand and agree, but maybe we should actually hear the interlude first? It might just be some sort of philosophical-based excerpt from a sermon that helped Lana or something. I doubt she's going to include a clip of him saying "Burn in hell, fags!" ... although some Lana fans truly deserve that.

BOZ confirmed the pastor is only on an interlude 

Lana has sung about God since the beginning of her career and it's never been cringe, I'm sure she'll find a way to make the pastor's inclusion tasteful and relevant to the album's story.
 
Also I can't listen to the song until after work because I have way too many distractions to immerse myself but in 5 hours I will be down by the lake ascending and I truly can't wait!!!!!!!!!
