LynnLana liked a post in a topic by Rorman Nockwell in Why does NFR! sound not as 'loud' as her previous records?
I mean the bit in HTD when the jingle bells come in is quite loud.
Jack had to do that otherwise you wouldn't hear her over the jingle bells

But for real, I'm by no means a sound engineer. I think I'm just an audiophile.
But, to me there's something kinda flat or muffled, and quite frankly, iffy about the overall sound quality of this album, like the record quality or mastering process gave this album this kind of flat/dry type of sound? I don't mean to beat a dead horse as I've made my point on several occasions in the pre and post release threads and even in the White Hot Forever/LDR7 thread, but I'm just not a fan of this type of sound. It's just kind of muffled and for a lack of a better word "cheap". I also think that for the most part the album cruelly lacks bass or beat to complement or create depth in sound, I don't know. It's very "off the shelf" there's not the same attention to detail sonically speaking. By all means, it's an alright album, but there's something just so beige, basic and/or simple about it, especially the production. Sorry, not sorry.
I feel like with her past records, especially the first three, there was a sense of intensity and grandeur in the sound? 'Born To Die' and 'Paradise' had that crisp/clear type of sound on each tracks, some say it's overproduced, and I could agree to that to a certain extent, but it just sounded like a really slick and clean pop record.
'Ultraviolence' was very atmospheric, I am a fan of the raw type of sound, I feel like the instrumentation on the album is intricate, intense and superb. I love that, and this is according to both Dan and Lana, the songs were recorded with a live band. Someone said in the LDR7 thread recently that it's once-in-a-lifetime record and I very much agree with that.
'Honeymoon' has got to be her most lush album as far as production goes. There's something just really beautiful and balanced, yet again intricate, about the way the album sounds, it's like the perfect mix of a classical/movie score type of sound and modern trap beats? It's just very beautiful, lush, elegant and cinematic.
I won't really get into how I feel about 'Lust for Life' as I think that the album is just kind of all over the place artistically speaking, but for the most part even the songs I don't like I think as far as audio goes, they sound good. But I was not a fan of how the trap beats were just overused here, kinda cheapened the whole experience. There are highs and lows on the album, but the songs I really like on there, they sound great.
So yeah, and this is very personal, I'm just not a fan of the so called 'NFR' sound.

Lana should hire him as an adviser for the next album
But honestly for the first time I feel like the production of her album could be much better. Some choices are strange and the trap beat is unnecessarily overused. Some tracks like Summer Bummer or White Mustang in the first half could have been cut. It kinda weakens the cohesiveness and actual lyrical improvement seen in the second half of the album.

But it's just an EP.. I don't care for Blue Velvet, Burning Desire and neither for American. The Paradise Yayo version is also not as good as the AKA one. And then we are left with 4 good songs and the LPs offer that as well.

I think Heroin just needs a better production imo. It needs heavier guitars, louder instruments and more of a beat when the chorus starts. Imagine if it had this huge rock ish production on the chorus, like drums and guitars etc etc, it would be so much better. It's too soft i think. Where's Dan when u need him?

The line "they still feel him here" breaks my heart. I know since it follows the line about Manson that it sounds like she's referring to him, but the fact that the song has to do with a close relation losing their life to heroin ("took your life away"), it reminds me of when someone close to you dies suddenly, and you can still "feel" them everywhere. Not sure if that's relatable...

I'm not asking you to feel sorry for her if her music leaks. I'm just saying that you should have some respect for her by at the very least letting her release her own music on her own terms. I understand that in terms of promotion, this era has been a bit messy and lacklustre, but frankly, it still disgusts me seeing people literally praying that her material leaks weeks before its official date. It reeks of self-entitlement, and selfishness, in my opinion.
Lana has worked tirelessly on this record, as she has on all of her past releases. Yes, as fans, the delays have been annoying as fuck to deal with, but at the end of the day we are getting new material so soon. It's greedy to think that Lana owes you something new all the time and you look extremely impatient and childish believing that you are entitled to whatever you want whenever you want.
Is it really that difficult to wait a couple of days for two brand new singles (which already sound amazing, by the way) and then only a few weeks after that for the entire 16 TRACK album?

Era buzz ruined- I was so hyped now i'm kind of disinterested in this whole era. I'm still gonna buy and stream the fuck out of the album when it's out but I'm honestly not even interested in the lead up to it anymore because we all know she won't do shit for promo, I love her and will always defend her when necessary but Universal/Ben/Lana sis you fucked up.
I don't even want 2/3 more singles before the album release, I would've preferred to only have 2 songs because I hate listening to albums and already knowing like 4 songs

WaitForLife liked a post in a topic by LynnLana in THE *HONEYMOON* ERA
I get why fans got frustrated by how low-key and uneventful Honeymoon era was. But when I look at the whole picture of Lana's career so far, I think I understand why it was the way it was. Born To Die was her mainstream breakthrough era, and it was burdened by controversies, ridiculous backlash and challenges that Lana was not quite ready for. Ultraviolence era happened during extensive tour (the first big tour in her life, and she's not exactly confident performer, so it couldn't be easy for her), also during fall-out of her relationship with Barrie. You could tell by reading her interviews she wasn't in a good state of mind most of the time, which resulted in controversial quotes, more backlash, more stress for Lana. After all of this she needed some rest, and Honeymoon, I think, was her period of rest. Quiet, slow-paced, completely on her own terms. She could easily just disappear from public eye for 2 or 3 years, like some musicians do (and there's nothing wrong with that), but thankfully Lana is prolific writer, so she gave us the album. I see Honeymoon as her phase of pure self-indulgence - no chasing commercial success like BTD, no compromising with new colloborators live UV, just recording what she needed for herself, a bunch of songs she could drive or swim to.
And while I wouldn't say it topped UV (don't think anything by Lana will ever top UV for me), I really like Honeymoon. It's perfect background to warm sunny day of early autumn, it helps soothing headaches (speaking from experience), it always works when I want to get my mind into creative mode. The Blackest Day is stil a career highlight in my eyes, God Knows I Tried and Terrance Loves You get me emotional, Religion is soothing and comfortable, Honeymoon is pretty and vaguely disturbing, Music to Watch Boys To and Salvatore have wonderful instrumentals. Lana's vocals are more siren-like than ever, though I'll admit sometimes I miss more emotional, firey delivery. Lyrics could be stronger, yes, and at some points they walk thin line between "tongue-in-cheek" and unbearably cheesy. But I kinda accepted at this point that most of Lana's songs have combination of good and cringey/lazy lines, that's just the way it is.
Beyond the album, other stuff is just not that important. The only serious disappointment is zero decently recorded performances. Music videos are whatever, I prefer building my own visuals to her songs in my mind anyway. Interviews were cute. Maybe Lana made the right decision when she started sitting down for interviews only with carefully chosen persons.
Anyway it looks like she wants to be more active and vocal this era, so her period of rest must be over.
