I've officially entered the era of anxiety that the Candy Necklace video will never see the light of day and will join the list of projects she's mentioned and then never spoke of again. It's honestly criminal releasing this masterpiece of an album without a single music video...

Every time I start listening to a single track from this album I end up listening to the whole thing. Idk if it's a popular opinion or not on here but idc cause for me it has really become Lana's best work to date. I cannot put into words how much I adore this incredible record, it's literally perfect, zero skips, no comments, I'm just in awe of this piece of art

I've been listening to the album non-stop and I think I can finally put into words more or less how I feel about it. I'm very much in love with it, I feel like its the culmination of the themes from Chemtrails and Blue Banisters, giving way to a new page. After leaving the California imagery behind post-NFR to get to the Midwest in Chemtrails and Blue Banisters, she's again re-rooting herself into California, with ''Sweet'' kinda giving that book-end to the Midwest period in her life and bringing into the picture her home in the Northeast, in line with the overall theme of family and lineage, her roots. It's interesting to go on a retrospective of her discography and see how the persona falls apart by each album until we can see more of her being herself.
I'm very excited for the next record, I suppose she will continue exploring the family themes. Considering her romantic relationships also inspire heavily her music, I wonder if her relationship with Evan, who is also from New York, could bring the East Coast more to the forefront in her imagery. The songs about/with Mike are very much Cali beach, sunny weather and carefree, contrasting those that I assume could be about Jack (Candy Necklace, Kintsugi), which are darker tracks lyric and sound wise.
Anyway rant over, I needed to get these thoughts out of my head

Me personally I think she ate with the "News Flash!"

idk i doubt it was a self-doubt thing, i think she was just angry at the public/her peers misinterpretation of what she wrote. i don't like the narrative that under every person's (especially women) anger there's some sort of like underlying insecurity that they need to work on to "improve" their anger. when people feel wronged they're entitled to feel angry and defend themselves as much as they want imo

She spoke facts in Question For The Culture, but racist liberals who can’t see anything outside of race fixated on the people she mentioned (who weren’t even only “people of colour”, as they call it) instead of what she actually said.

Norman is great and is a good gateway drug for new fans since it encapsulates all that's great about Lana but overall I dont listen to it that much for years After BB and Ocean Blvd it seems shallow lyrically but that also shows her progress so!

i'm still struggling to understand how ride was "worse" compared to anything else she did regarding a "daddy" aesthetic, which i don't know if i would say was an "aesthetic", her use of the word daddy was mostly inspired by 1950s culture and she specially said she didn't have a complex

it is a bit uncomfortable and i honestly don't even care for that music video that much, but it's really not that big of a deal, like @Party Favor said, she has explored way more darker topics, including drugs, domestic abuse, and pedophilia, but we all understand that she's not romanticizing or promoting such topics
also, i just don't really get why we're still bringing up the fact that she wore a headdress, it was 11 years ago and although it was still insensitive, it was a different time, and, again, it was over a decade ago, she has donated large amounts of money to native american organizations, we know she wouldn't do this today, so why does it even matter? we as people will have such a difficult time consuming and enjoying art if we couldn't handle things that might bother us or might be controversial, especially if the piece of art, or movie, or song, is decades old and representative of the period of time it was made, if lana always played it safe, she probably wouldn't be known at all

I'm critical of Jack Antonoff, but I don't "hate" Jack Antonoff as a producer for Lana. I have issues with the execution at times, but I'm also a sucker for the NFR title track, Venice Bitch, White Dress, A&W, Grandfather, etc. However, I do think it's time for something new--regardless of the fact that he is a talented and versatile musician and how comfortable and chill she feels with him in the studio, we've heard the range and dare I say the limitations regarding his input to her music.
I think as an artist she'd do herself a service by getting out of her comfort zone. Like, not for nothing, the songs that actually left me shook and/or that truly felt impactful, besides A&W, were there non-Jack produced tracks: The Grants, Candy Necklace, Fingertips and Let The Light In.
