the way this album came together amazes me. i've avoided all snippets and didn't even listen/watch FIIYL/TG but:
venice bitch as track three still amazes me. i made a playlist for a dead boy with the same deliberate vibe judgement and it was gr8. doin time video elevated the song to… god tier? i don't know? still processing. perfect placement tho. the first 30 seconds of BAR's new lyrics were a trip but then i realized i fucking love that she warped that song into something new and just as great. hope as the closing track… after a full listen… it's like a whole new song. i always liked it but girl! nothing to comment on the songs she teased in past forms since i can't even remember how they sounded. all i know is this is one THICK, FLUID ass album with zero skips. those who never even heard MAC/VB are in for a goddamn meal

i'm not even processing this, i finally listened at like 6am and have still been listening to other music as usual. and to be honest this is exactly how i hoped it would be since i'm moving into a luxury apartment (not rich lol) on friday and am ready to play this on the built in sound system 25/8 getting high on the balcony 26/9… oh please west coast don't get me back into smoking parliaments on the balcony and swaying w my hands up

So, I just had my first true un-interupted session of listening to this albulm start to finish and I have concluded three major points.

First, I am blown away by how cohesive the tracks are. I feel like each song flows efortlessly to the next in both mood and sound. If you didn't pay attention, you could almost miss the transition between "Mariners Apartment Complex" to "Fuck It I Love you". She and Jack also did a fantastic job with the opening and closing tracks. "Norman fucking Rockwell"  feels like picking a book up off the shelf and reading the prolog to a story, while "Hope Is A Dangerous Thing For A Woman Like Me To Have - But I Have It" is such a beautiful closing chapter.

Secondly, I love all the small throwbacks and references to both her earlier work and unreleased tracks. The synth sound effect in "Cinnamon Girl" at 3:28 is the same synth sound effect in the intro of "Radio". Many of her songs contain backing vocals that are identical to her earlier Lizzy Grant work. Her signature vocabulary is peppered in everything. "Liquor from the top shelf", "blue", "passed the test and yes", "nothing gold can stay", "party dress", "catch you on the flipside" etc. I was very pleased with the nostalgia and I feel like she was really trying to please us with the references.

Lastly, I noticed that this was the first time I ever listened to a Lana that I did NOT get the urge to jump around or stop playing until the song was finished.  Listening to start to finish was a pleasure and there wasn't a "bad" or too long of a song that I felt like skipping over.

    This woman is freaking amazing.

Yess, it's just so beautifully made. I don't mind the technical issues some people are mentioning, the melodies are just so sweet and magical, she has never sounded this good.

I'm sorry UV baby but you have been replaced, this is her magnum opus and that's that on that.

I just got wine drunk with my boyfriend (who isn’t a big Lana stan like me and hadn’t heard any of the tracks outside a couple of the singles), and we danced to the whole album on vinyl. He started crying during Love Song and stayed crying through Cinnamon Girl and said it felt like we were dancing at our wedding, and for that experience alone this album is 10/10 Lana’s best work.

    my top four songs...

    1. Love Song
    2. Bartender
    3. California
    4. Cinnamon Girl

this is bound to change as months go by and i literally love EVERY song on this album. this was hard to choose tbh. MAC and VB are still faves too but i’m basking in the new songs so much. for me, personally, this is DEFINITELY her best album to date.

Im with you on that. Truly her most personal honest record. There are so many nuances. Like the sounds of car zooming/seagulls or waves crashing. Or the Ooohhss in the THE GREATESTTTTT's guitar solo. .

Everyone on twitter is going on about how they have a new collection of sugar daddy anthems (like they do with every new Lana album) and it’s cringey and I feel secondhand embarrassment for all of them. I hate that this is what everyone reduces Lana’s art to.
