I’m still confused at this too. why two tapes??? it’s not a long project, and if you were to split it surely it would be on vinyl. tapes are a terrible and unreliable sound quality, it makes no sense :toofunny: part of me thinks tape “deck” means maybe a really cute portable tape player that’s violet themed, but the cost is only $24 so that makes no sense either. however it must be two tapes cuz the one on her website is already is $12 which is half the price. literally why tho :rip:

The reviewer from The Guardian is a self-identifies socialist. She calls herself a socialist on her Twitter page.

(I’m a liberal democrat but I do not agree with socialism)

But I have to ask, why is The Guardian employing someone with a clear political bias and letting them review art? Her politics is anti-creativity as creativity is censured under socialism.

See I can’t take that review seriously as there is a clear bias. It’s not the media’s job to infuse their politics into reporting. That’s up to the viewer to decide. Granted bias is all over. FOX News is very bias and repeats whatever Trump says! lol

Having said this, most people are not so good at understanding poetry.

I dont just disagree on the censorship you are demanding yourself (not giving someone a place at a -leftist, by the way- media because of their political orientation?) but have to say that your conceptions on socialism may be misguided too. Whenever talking about regimes that cut on freedom of speech you should point at communism (and specifically at certain conceptions of communism, not all of them) and not at socialism at all. Most of self-called "socialist" parties, at least over the western side of the world, have more today to do with neoliberal practices than with socialist/socialdemocrat ones, not to talk about the unexistent link to practices on authoritarian communist regimes

What I’m pointing out is that reviewer probably has the kinds of views which would make her dislike Lana even before hearing what Lana has to offer. I’m saying that this person probably intended to give a negative review before even hearing any of this. A lot of reviewers pre-judge before writing the kind of review they know they will give. Beyoncé always gets glowing reviews, never a bad one. It’s safe to say that many of those critics probably decided to give Beyoncé a good review before even hearing anything.

Critics are supposed to be fair and reviews need to be rooted in some kind of intelligence which is free from biases. However this is not always the case. Some reviewers really like some artists and will ALWAYS give them a good review even if their work is mediocre. Others will give a negative review because they don’t like someone even though they know what the artist released was good.

Still most of the reviews Lana is getting are positive so I prefer to focus on that.

why you bringing Beyonce into this?  I've seen plenty of thinkpieces about Beyonce's uber-capitalist practices, probably more so than Lana when it comes to money making off like sweatshop labor and shit.  I don't think your anti-socialism thing has anything to do with Beyonce................  remember what happened when Lana dragged her name up?

«Del Rey’s mistake is forgetting that part of being a poet is to tell us about the world, not just focus on herself.»

Someone shall explain the guardians writer that poets also have many personal poems about themselves and their love life. I’m Greek, and many Ancient Greek poets and writers rather than their famous work about life and etc, they do have written things about their love life and daily life. Thanks. Bye.

This is also a ridiculous quote because in many of the poems, it seems like Lana is writing through the lens of a persona. While this persona is likely a distilled version of her self, stuck in a solipsistic state, there are more than enough instances of the narrator trying to get beyond the self (Paradise is Very Fragile, LA Who Am I To Love You, Bare Feet on Linoleum...)

"You can't be a muse and be happy, too.

You can't blacken the pages with Russian poetry and be happy." - Blue Banisters

Quote

I asked Asmodeus (the demon of lust) to make Miley Cyrus suffer. I am not happy with these new developments. After Miley rips off Lana's aesthetic, she bullies Lana into changing her release date. It is infuriating.

I think there is nothing wrong with mentioning Beyoncé as an example. She is part of the top 0.1%. I am aware of the sweatshop labor issue. My point is that she is so well connected, has so much money that the reviews she receives will always be positive. She is in with the music industry establishment. Lana in the other hand is not, but Lana has the [working class] people behind her. While Lana is sitting nicely in this business she is not so extremely well connected to the point where good reviews can be an automatic because of money.

But as I said most of the reviews of VBBOTG have been positive so I prefer to focus on that and the fact that the fans love it.

Edit nvm i read i cant do it on phone

Have you tried this? It's all I can find because in the end I got fed up and bought it on Google play instead so I never actually signed up for an Audible account.

Just thought I'd share the tracklist I made that includes all 14 tracks of both Violet and NFR! I kept NFR's original tracklist in order as I felt it flowed better with each poem as an interlude between each song. Each poem I feel at least generally matches a song on NFR all based on mood and tone, if not perfectly. Each poem prefaces its sister song.

Hope you enjoy if you use! <3

1. Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass

2. Norman Fucking Rockwell

3. SportCruiser

4. Mariners Apartment Complex

5. The Land of 1,000 Fires

6. Venice Bitch

7. Salamander

8. Fuck It I Love You

9. Tessa DiPietro

10. Doin' Time

11. What Happened When I Left You

12. Love Song

13. Never to Heaven

14. Cinnamon Girl

15. Past the Bushes Cypress Thriving

16. How to Disappear

17. LA Who Am I To Love You

18. California

19. My Bedroom is a Sacred Place Now - There Are Children At the Foot of My Bed

20. The Next Best American Record

21. Paradise is Very Fragile

22. The Greatest

23. Quiet Waiter - Blue Forever

24. Bartender

25. Happy

26. Happiness is a Butterfly

27. Bare Feet on Linoleum

28. Hope is a Dangerous Thing for a Woman Like Me to Have - But I Have it

This is perfect, is there anyway to upload this as a file? (unless thats against the rules of course? - i'd really love to hear this tracklist though :worship: )

I'm about to go for a ride on my bike while listening to this... it's a gorgeous winter afternoon so I'm pretty excited. There are lots and lots of trees (especially pine trees!) where I live. <3

"Because captains aren't like poets, they dont make metaphores between the sea and sky. And as i thought that to myself i realised, that's why i write.

All of this navigating the earth was to get back to my life. Six trips to the moon for my poetry to arise.

I'm not a captain

I'm not a pilot

I write

I write"

I'm sure it'll be a lovely little time! I do this quite often myself, except it's summertime here and well each season has its own beauty. I guess it made me feel happy to be reminded that I'm not the only one who does just this :) Nothing like a scenic time with scenic soundtracks.

It'd be so much easier to share the playlist, if it was released on youtube or spotify. Even if it's on there as a podcast (doubt it's legal, because that's how they'd upload her unreleased songs) you can't add the chapters to playlists. So for now all you can do is:

  1. Download the audible file to your computer
  2. Localize said file
  3. Convert the aax to mp3 with a tool (for Windows: AaxAudioConverter, direct download here)
  4. You can add these files to your spotify and create a playlist on there, so you can listen from every device. Though files will only be listenable when you have them downlaoded. It's what I do with all unreleased stuff

I know it's very inconvenient and I wish there was a simpler way to share, but for now this is the only solution. I tried it and tbf it's easy, just a bit unusal lol

Also a complete file acting as a playlist is possible, but all tracks are officially released and hence sharing is against the rules :creep:

So violet is out as a podcast on spotify but I’m not sure if it was illegally uploaded

It's illegal. You can tell by the poems' descriptions that it's copy pasted from Genius or elsewhere along with spelling errors. Idk.
