While I really enjoy minimalistic productions, I feel like Jack does not do them very good. HM was very minimalistic aswell, yet there was so much going on in the background of the tracks, so many decent little details. Jacks minimalism is either overly simplistic , with him playing the same 3 chords on a dull-sounding instdument, or it's resulting in a muddy instrumental, where a lot of the instruments get lost in the mix.

 

I'm excited for CoCc, don't get me wrong, but so far I personally doubt that it will be THE highlight of her career. 

I totally agree, I'm always stunned at her previous productions. Honeymoon especially, everything just sounds so meticulously designed to perfection. It's an expertly crafted record, from start to finish  Meanwhile the NFR and COCC soundscape just sounds so coincidental and nonchalant, like an impromptu live performance in a studio setting. There's just not much to it, which so far has been underwhelming. It's a little bit lazy...  I get that's the vibe they're going for though, and apparently it has resonated with a lot of people.

I do still have high hopes for the record as I've ditched any expectations for flawless production (she herself has said the album doesn't contain that). I'm much more looking forward to the mood + melodies. As long as it makes me cry I'm good
