A&W really re-sparked my loooove for lana, i mean i never stopped liking her but i was so unimpressed by anything she's released post-LFL that i was kind of cool on her for a while. (and it didn't help that her behavior was annoying for a minute there)

 

but now i'm like she's back, i'm listening to her old discography again and i'm like ahhhh....my interest has re-peaked

but good questions. I mean, I remember when the title track dropped I thought it had a similar sort of fear-of-aging sentiment that was present in songs such as Y&B/Old Money. more recently there was also Blue Banisters "most men don't want a woman with a legacy, it's our bane" & Black Bathing Suit with lines such as "my time is run over" & "I wish you could see to my soul through this black bathing suit" seemingly touching again on the idea that inner beauty/soul & mind is often dismissed.

& now, A&W.

 

I'm sure this is probably something she has had on her mind for a while, maybe even over the course of her life since she was a teenager.

bc I'm not Lana or anything close to her, but I can say even as a 20 year old woman, I have already pondered on these things for a few years now

..not constantly or anything but you know, certain things happen & it'll naturally come up.

 

maybe she's saying it all more clearly now simply because it is a bit heavy & she needed the time or something happened recently to inspire it more heavily. do you have any thoughts about it yourself? If so, feel free to share ofc

I don’t understand it either but I think increasing on its 4th day after dropping a bit is definitely a good sign

I love that she’s winning rn  Those numbers reflect an organic hit with genuine public interest. Amazing for no promo and a Tuesday release! I don’t really follow charts in general, and am not a believer that charting well/awards=quality, but this is so lovely to see. Because this time it does reflect quality!

I haven’t listened to A&W in almost 24 hours. Needed to give myself a break, but the lyrics are still in my head. I haven’t felt this way about a song in a long time. I know I’m in the minority when I say I enjoyed both BB and Chemtrails albums, but it floors me how this woman is so talented to keep producing straight up top notch quality work. I literally can’t think of any other artist where I like 95% of their songs and continue to feel connected to the music after all these years. She’s incredible.

I haven't reached any specific conclusions about those lines or the song, lyrically, overall, especially since the lyrics are not boiled down to their essence (as in, say, WFWF) but instead have an 'off the cuff' feeling that I think is probably the result of her speaking spontaneously into a mic and then perhaps editing them, or not editing them, later. Clearly, the narrator seems to feel bad about herself, which seems to stem to her appearance as well. But whether the narrator is wholly, partially, or not at all Lana herself is unclear.

thanks also! yeah it’s def a very raw stream of consciousness track so I get what you mean about the lyrics. as always, over time with more & more listens, different ideas come to the mind  - I have my initial thoughts but i wouldn’t be surprised if i am way off or have different ideas a few months down the road.
