Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd - Pre-Release Thread: OUT March 24th, 2023

Recommended Posts

based on leaks and releases so far, where would you rank the album?

I still think UV will always be my favorite. ocean sounds promising tho. i would have to it put in 3rd place so far. UV > HM > Ocean would be my top 3.

I have not yet heard The Grants, but maybe this is another part of the Ā« old Lana Ā» we need to let go of: the big-larger-than-life openers. Personally, the last of those was Love (even though many wonā€™t agree with me). Since Norman, all of her openers are amazing growers but arenā€™t the biggest tracks of their album. White Dress is the one that stands out the most, but itā€™s not a Cruel World or Ride type of song at all.Ā

I think there's an emphasis on "happy" with tunnel. The songs are written from a current perspective, looking back. Lana has mentioned how happy she is now quite a few times. For me, historically there's a lot of heaviness in her discography but it comes from someone who is sorting it out, or still experiencing it. With Tunnel there seems to be clarity in the lyricsĀ and a lot of light in the production. I think we've always known Lana to sing sad songs but she's finally singing from a place of happiness rather than hurt. She's able to see clearly now and she's laser focused.Ā

Spoiler

It's interesting that you perceive it that way, as I see it, so far, as a 'dark, sort of smotheredĀ album,' the way UV was 'dark.' The album art, to me, certainly doesn't suggest happiness or reflect someone who is currently living life to the full and enjoying themselves. The first two singles don't seem to be written from a place of happiness either to me. I've heard 'Sweet,' 'The Grants,' and 'Fingertips,' and I get the same general impression from them. There's not a lot of contrast within each of the songs, musically or lyrically, at least notĀ in the manner we're used to from Lana and other contemporary artists. I hope the other tracks will offer more of a smorgasbord.Ā

that's exactly what i am saying because all those songs are at least 9/10 for me šŸ˜

'Born To Die' gets no love, and it greatly deserves it, in my opinion. To me, it's one of the essential Lana songs, as it came early in her 'Lana Del Rey' career and outlines and delineatesĀ her entire perspective on life and love, at least as it was up to, perhaps, LFL, and perhaps beyond to the present.Ā

I askedĀ Asmodeus (the demon of lust) to make Miley Cyrus suffer. I am not happy with these new developments. After Miley rips off Lana's aesthetic, she bullies Lana into changing her release date. It is infuriating.Ā
