Unpopular Lana Opinions

i don’t agree with this idea that the whole “fame is so awful & i’m the underdog” thing was planned or intentional, i highly doubt lana intended to have a bad SNL performance, or to have people completely disregard her music or her as a person because of a few plastic surgery procedures or the simple fact that she changed her stage name, she was clearly traumatized by these intial reactions & still had to deal with it with further controversies (the “i wish i was dead” comment, qftc, the body-shaming, etc.) i don’t think it’s fair to say that she has to deal with the consequences of these things, she doesn’t deserve to have trauma from her fame, & i feel like she should have the right to dislike fame without people telling her it’s annoying or that she shouldn’t complain, maybe people should’ve treated her better to begin with

all of that on top of having her homes invaded, cars stolen and death threats multiple times

Everyone thinks they want one thing, and then find out it wasn't what they wanted. Everyone has conflicting desires. Are you yourself any less hypocritical than her, or is it just easier to critisize lana because she makes her feelings and her journey public?

thats how i perceived it in my mind, without judging the whole concept. Even if Lana wasn’t quite positive with this plan, that doesn’t mean that her company didn’t pushed it?! i don’t deny that may this backlash began frim

nowhere and it was a coincidence to happen. But thinking how every artist is attached to something gives me two signs: a) the culture is fucking broken, b) it’s a marketing plan to make a breakthrough through the celebrity side of being a famous artist. I don’t know how i could manage this backlash that lana has, and it feels like she working it the best she can by keeping it real and exposing critics in her own mindful way. I didn’t mean to offend Lana or anyone, and not trying to be a smart or i don’t know, i’m just expressing my deep thoughts. my snl era

Re: The underdog angle

My own possibly unpopulary opinion is, that while I strongly agree that the initial backlash wasn't planned and  must have been very traumatizing, she lacks self awareness as to how it comes off when she pulls out the "I'm the underdog"-trope again and again years later now that she's litterally a rich, succesful, critically acclaimed celebrity singer who most critics would agree has had significant impact on pop culture. Like...what more do you want girl? A statue? It gets especially aggrevating when she uses it as a shield against any kind of criticism, like when she went on her Insta-rants a few years back.

At the end of the day she is only human. I can't blame her for being stuck on that, I would probably be the same way to be honest. Unlike us, Lana doesn't have the luxury of analyzing her own life from the outside and making coolheaded decisions about how to feel about trauma that happened to her depending on what looks best to the public. We're all the protagonists in our own stories. But I sometimes wish that she had a good PR manager who would tell her to go easy on that angle. But then again she wouldn't be Lana.

If she wants to complain about how she was treated early in her career, I think that's fine. I mean she was treated awfully and even when I read reviews praising NFR, critics always have to find a way to put down BTD. However, I think she's so hyper focused on this she fails to take accountability for other things, like the QFTC. I cringe whenever she goes after people in BB, because she needs to acknowledge that her actions caused her to get "cancelled."

Real in this post, that's what I thought :w8ing:

It's true and it marked me the way she had been treated badly by the media (plastic girl, bad at singing, a puppet). I thought she put out a fucking good and conceptual album at the same time, and that's how the media treats her? I was pissed because I was afraid that she would stop her career lol It was really rough.

But I think since the end of the Paradise era, and since the beginning of UV she has gained credibility, and more and more every year. In 2022 she has never been so acclaimed loved and respected. In fact, despite her difficult beginnings, I'm surprised to see how well she succeeded afterwards, in being a reference, in continuing to be relevant. She's handled it pretty well despite not releasing any major albums in a few years. Almost everyone knows her, at least one of its songs. She has prestigious contracts, films, fashion, tours that are very full... In fact she has a really big status in 2022: people no longer shout Lana like the hesitant newbie artist but they shout Lana like they would see Britney Spears or Amy Winehouse, she has become an acclaimed and highly anticipated musical icon with each album.

She had a trauma during this period and that is understandable, but water has flowed under the bridge and today I don't see how she could complain because she has become an artist that many people want. Her beginnings did not slow her down in her musical conquest, and that she can be proud of because it is not the case for everyone.

Blue Banisters has Lana's best piano ballads. That album displays the very best piano work in her discography. It just adds so much in IYLDWM, Black Bathing Suit & Sweet Carolina; though Arcadia & Beautiful aren't my favourite songs of hers, the piano is equally exquisite.

Ironically people call NFR her best work, but that album has the very worst piano work in her discography—the mixing quality and the intricacy of the melodies are just not it. Which is funny considering people are over the piano ballads.

I like TBD's verses but I really don't like the chorus very much

ETA: I'm so proud that no one liked this; it means it's truly unpopular :oic2:

Have to agree with you on this, Blue Banisters does have her best piano ballads. They are incredibly atmospheric.

You can't blacken the pages with Russian poetry and be happy." - Blue Banisters

I asked Asmodeus (the demon of lust) to make Miley Cyrus suffer. I am not happy with these new developments. After Miley rips off Lana's aesthetic, she bullies Lana into changing her release date. It is infuriating.

I quite like the “piano ballads” and Lana’s use of piano as of late. It’s elegant and refined in a quiet way, and I think she exemplifies the art of subtlety quite well.

I completely agree. Honestly, I’d argue that Blue Banisters had some of the most creative piano usage in her released discography with a few exceptions.

I mean, Beautiful has that gorgeous, twinkling intro, Sweet Carolina has that almost whimsical waterfall of notes toward the end, etc. :)

To me, some of them sound outdated.

If lana goes decides to go with a country twist for her next album, I think it will be amazing and beautiful.

I really think so too.

I genuinely believe she has the potential to revive the genre in a mainstream way that modern pop-country hasn’t been able to, and I think her storytelling abilities, intentional vocal delivery, and use of Americana would make for an extremely successful country record!

Totally. Her aesthetic and voice pair very well with a pop-country-folk type of sound. Her angelic voice with more paired down and slower instrumentals sound so beautiful.

the chorus melody of Fake Diamond ruins the whole song

I always think that Fake Diamond is a little too much of everything. The chorus needs to calm down. Idk, there's just so much going on.

I also agree the melody of the chorus is not as good as the verses.
