Vanilla Icy 29,602 Posted May 21, 2020 I think that if she did not mention them people would be like yeah cool... but what are u talking about no one sings about that kind of stuff. She just showed some examples to not let people disqualify her opinion so quickly. please honestly i feel like lana thinks people dont even genuinely care about her opinion so she just says whatever now and she's right nobody is going to be talking about this in like a day or two the thing i find funny is the people she named like kehlani? never even had a top 10.. ariana's most popular songs are about her moving on from heartbreak, self empowerment, ect. and so on that's the part i found weird 2 Quote i love you, but you don't understand me. unlikelysweet 215 Posted May 21, 2020 I agree but I wonder if she realizes that key difference between her and the other artists she name-dropped. In an age where women are desperately trying to escape the whole submissive trope, it does feel as though she was taking a step backwards which is why the media came after her. I get how the name-dropping was necessary to catch people's attention and prove her point but that was not a smart pr move... Lana has a habit of being hella insightful but still managing to miss the real substance behind things whether on purpose or not Personally, I think if society thinks lana is moving us backwards by speaking her truth as a woman who happens to be submissive and is maybe okay with taking on a more passive role in relationships, then I think the problem lies with society. Only celebrating strong empowered women in the media sounds like bottled marketed feminism to me. Women should be able to be as dominant or as submissive as they want. That’s my take on Lana re: feminism, I always found it confusing that she doesn’t identify with the movement when feminism is all about embracing all kinds of women, and celebrating their differences and similarities. She’s obviously preaching for a whole genre of women that are like her and are put down for feeling too much, being passive, etc. I think that’s pretty feminist of her imo.
mkultraviolence 5,832 Posted May 21, 2020 She didn’t lie and honestly who cares about the name dropping the point of the message is what matters. She basically just shouted out the main girls right now in the industry obv people care, you can tell by the comments on here and under the post. the message is so so important, but the name dropping clouds it, and unfortunately her message is going to get lost because people are paying attention to other things.

bluefiona 8,050 Posted May 21, 2020 Lots of people are already upset with Lana smh... sometimes its like people want to be offended and purposely take things the wrong way. All these fandoms that are upset don’t compare to Lanas cult following hehe You know, people are easily offend about everything which is why I deleted my twitter account a few days ago. I don't see anything that Lana wrote as bad or controversial. This is her story and for fucks sake, we all been around to see what the press, some celebrities and the media put her through. Don't forget that people like Kim Gordon said out loud why Lana doesn't just kill herself already. God knows all that woman said about Lana when she was promoting her stupid book stuff like "why doesn't she die already" and compared Lana to prostitutes and porn stars because of a scene in the video Ride. That just Kim. There were many other woman in the public attacking Lana. And what happens? Her music, aesthetics and vision opened many doors for the likes of Billie and Dua. They win all the accolades and awards. Lana? Nothing. So let her rant and rave all she wants. Camilla and Taylor literally stealing music video ideas from her for years and she's kept quite. As for her videos especially Gods and Monsters, ya'll know her being in a red bikini doing a half ass pole dance is tamed compared to what some of these other girls in the scene are doing. Some of you millennials are so over sensitive and whiny about everything. Simmer down. Ya'll acting like Lana just got done boiling puppies or something.
paradisetropico 7,916 Posted May 21, 2020 of course people will continue to find a way to pick apart each word and sentence she used to justify that she is "anti feminist" and that she doesn't understand the "struggle" im done with the commenters who cannot decipher what she was evoking with her piece... she's never not been criticized for singing HER dang truth (whether it is SAD or HAPPY) lana obviously loves those other female artists... stop trying to start shiz

mkultraviolence 5,832 Posted May 21, 2020 I'm a feminist and I can understand why Lana wouldn't want to associate herself with the movement, considering what is shown on social media is usually extreme-psuedo feminism or feminism hiding behind capitalism. i find that what she says is exactly what feminists are fighting for and i personally know a lot of people who talk about and post about the importance of a space for women like her. I actually follow an insta account that posts about the importance of submissive people and a lot of the memes have Lana on them. the memes are positive though and I think the owner just likes Lana in general but anyway, feminism isn't bad, but it is very misinterpreted by people and i think Lana doesn't consider herself a feminist because she hasn't yet found a place in the movement for people like her, but I can assure you, it is out there
VeniceBambi 1,304 Posted May 21, 2020 I dont think Lana feels like she has a place in modern Feminism which is why she never cared for it. Modern feminism is focused on destroying the image of the “submissive” woman. I believe all types of women should be celebrated. If you wanna be a stay at home mom or go out and make your own company, you do you. But don’t shame other women just because their feminism doesn’t look the same as yours on the surface. She also mentioned in her post, women who get their voices taken away from them by stronger women. Shes probably just been judged so much for who she truly is so she doesnt feel apart of it.
