It’s very easy to understand… when people are dissatisfied with an album they call it transitional in the hopes that Lana will offer something they actually enjoy for the next album. Both COCC and BB were called transitional albums too - is it so hard to accept that each album is a fully formed statement?

and “moving into a new sonic landscape” is not unique to any particular album… every album is transitional then in this sense because the nature of making new songs means that she’ll be exploring new sonic territory?? Ocean blvd isn’t any more transitional than any of her other albums, there’s nothing to suggest this is an in-between spot between two distinct epochs of her career. And even if it were, that’s only an analysis that could make sense in retrospect

was just reading what she said ab Andromeda in her interview w Believer Magazine:

“True love in ‘Andromeda’ is kind of like this abstract thing to a woman who has accumulated a lot of negative experiences, and maybe not had a lot of support otherwise—which is kind of like me, navigating in a predominately male world for most of my twenties (…) There are a lot of wounds that a woman accumulates (…) That’s really hard to bring into a relationship—that is a total relationship killer. It’s a lot to ask somebody, of a man especially, to be like, can you please draw me out of my hardened shell and make me soft again? ‘Andromeda’ is a bit like that. The Greek myth is that she’s tied to a rock and she’s going to get ravaged by this sea monster and this guy has to come save her. There’s this hope to be saved, and it’s just a little too much to ask of people (…)”.

    hits home
