I have to say, if the album is mostly slow ballads with no beats, I am not sure if I will gag just because Lana has done it so much on Blue Banisters (nothing wrong with ballads I just want more) so I am sat for sure but with these reviews, I feel like I am either gonna love it or I'm gonna be indifferent until it hits me.

I still haven’t listened to the album (waiting for release day ) but I’ve read people’s opinions and descriptions. I’ve always thought Lana is letting the praise she got as “song writer” gets into her head a little bit. It was evident with that weird poetry book and her recent songs being melodic messes compared to her earlier work. Too much focus on lyrics less so on the music itself. That W magazine interview about Fingertips and automatic writing got me worried. She’s in her bubble a little too much.

I hope the album gets panned even more simply because she needs a wake up call to make accessible music again. She’s still a mainstream commercial artist. You’re not Bjork. You’re not making music for a 500 people art gallery (if she thinks she is, well time to quit her label and go independent). You’re making music for millions. Also, her stans mentality of her being this artiste (not caring about sales, etc) irks me too.

Also, this whole thing reminds me of Lorde during the Solar Power era. They were expecting acclaim for that album and got the opposite . It was hilarious. Reading through the email updates? or whatever leading up to that album, you can tell Lorde was in her little (Antarctic faux environmentalist) bubble as well. She really convinced herself she was making the ultimate art form with that album.

I just know that Lana convinced her self 6 minutes songs are art (as do some of her stans here). Maybe one song but an album full of lengthy tracks might not be the best idea. Standards exist for a good reason. I’m super happy critics are dragging those interludes. She thought she ate with that. There’s no point in making interludes as long as full length tracks. Zero reason. Also, loads of critics like the experimental unbothered nature of the album but as a listen not very enjoyable. Common thread among all of the reviews.

Side note: I know I’m being critical rn but my opinions could change after hearing the album .

It's nice when she gets recognition and acclaim but Ultraviolence got a 74 on metacritic and BTD a 62 (while BB got an 80...) so it really doesn't mean anything lol idk why we're worrying abt all that. And also tbh the reviews have been pretty good so far?

In one of the songs she samples Venice Bitch and that brings lava of emotions from 2019. Proves how good Norman is and how hard is to reach that kind of quality.
This new album is just fusion of Chemtrails and Banisters... though three new singles are quite good, I expected much more!

It is nice, but I am sorry to say this, it doesn't come close to Ultraviolence or Norman!

Not a bad review, we anticipated critics wouldn't care for the Pastor interlude so no surprise there. They get Fingertips and AW being top tier, love that. Also love that they highlight Fishtail too, it deserves all the praise it receives.

For those who missed the interview or would like to relisten, I've put a video recording as well as a written transcription of the full interview in a thread in the New Interviews section -

Nobody gives a fuck if you don't like a song, but don't act like a martyr when people press back on you for having a condescending, dismissive attitude towards people who do like this style of music.

I bought a movie ticket, so I’m allowed to pirate/bring a camcorder to the theater/record and share the movie online teas. That’s how delulu and DERANGED that is.

I’ve never seen a fan base more obsessed with leaks. I’m somewhat indifference in regards to her unreleased material leaking (even that is questionable because people pay thousands of dollars for songs to leak in these trade groups and for what? You’re not supporting the artist or producers at all. You’re just funding these leakers). Anyway, as for her official material? I’m praying everyday the album WON’T leak. Not just for her streaming stats which will be destroyed if it leaks this early but her as an artist. Her artistic vision and integrity which people and her own fans do not respect these days despite her dissatisfaction of leaks through multiple tweets in the past and even recently posting videos telling people NOT to listen to them.

Am I the only one who can’t really wrap my brain around snippets?

I listened to them the other day but to me it’s just kinda like “yep that’s Lana singing”. I don’t remember them at all after the fact, and i haven’t really formed any opinion of the songs based off them.

i can’t stress this enough… please use spoilers when talking about the specifics/contents of the leaked songs.
if i see the same people not utilizing the spoiler feature, WPs will be issued.

Ok this might be an unpopular opinion and I’m ready to get flamed but…

The purpose of art isn’t to write or produce things that make people feel comfortable. By writing a lyric that some construe as tone deaf she’s making us think about that statement. eg: Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable

This isn’t specifically aimed at LB (it’s more prevalent on reddit, twitter, and tt) but a few people have already mentioned about how a lot of fans are listening to this from a “comfortable” position (eg being white, and accordingly having privilege) and speaking for minorities

Idk I really haven’t conveyed my thoughts articulately at all but I think that whilst it’s very easy to argue that the ‘white woman’ lyric is tone deaf, I think it opens up interesting (and, perhaps for people who are more privileged, discomforting) discussion over white saviorisim

idk I’m interested to hear everyone’s thoughts. I know this is written badly hahaha I have (legitimate lol) brain damage

Maybe I’m in my problematic era but I’m so tired of everything being controversial. Lana can say whatever she wants. I truly don’t care.

A lot of The Weeknd’s lyrics are abusive and misogynistic, and no bats an eye (including myself) because he’s male and it’s art. Why is this any different except that it’s like 50 times less problematic?
