I want Emile to produce the whole record. Wait for Life-like soundscape on the whole album.

I wouldn't mind a CD with a few Emile tracks. Same goes with Justin Parker.

I can see something very atmospheric and almost spacey. Something to do with pondering our existence and such

Personal preference of course but I'd give a kidney to get the gangsta bitch back. It will obvs never happen and I'm not expecting to because she's much more classy and mature now but these outfits give me life it's such goals and it fits her sooooo well it's iconically Lana, the racing jacket + cap + loafers (it's not the exact word but I don't know how it's called in English) + jeans combination is as iconic in my mind as the white tee she's been constantly wearing. But I'm biased because I really fucking love white trash

This is a work in progress, but I wanted to start a topic that encompassed the much discussed debate over Lana's authenticity by weaving in a timeline of her life and career as well as old interviews of Lizzy Grant and David Kahne, her first producer, pictures, and performance videos. I plan on adding much more to this, but wrote a brief timeline to start from.

    ---

Elizabeth "Lizzy" Woolridge Grant was born on June 21, 1985 in New York City. Her father, Rob, was a copywriter at the very successful Grey Group, while her mother was an executive accountant at the same company. Her parents relocated to Lake Placid while she and her two siblings were quite young, and her father slowly transitioned into entrepreneurship via domain investment and independent marketing.  Lizzy began singing as a child as the cantor of her church choir while attending Catholic elementary school.

At the age of 14-15, Lizzy was sent to Kent Boarding School in Connecticut to deal with her alcohol dependence and remained there until age 18, when she took a gap year off and stayed with her aunt and uncle in Long Island, NY and worked as waitress. During this period, her uncle taught her the basics of playing guitar. The following year, she enrolled in Fordham University, located in the Bronx, to study metaphysics and volunteered rebuilding homes outside of school. She began playing open mics at various nightclubs in Brooklyn, performing acoustic versions of songs she had written and recorded independently, some of which would reappear on future releases. In 2006, at her performance at the Williamsburg Live Songwriting Competition (video of the performance and interview here:
), Lizzy was noticed by Van Wilson, a rep for 5 Points Records. In 2007, at the age of 22, Lizzy signed with 5 Points and began recording with producer David Kahne. (See interview with David about signing Lizzy here: http://www.mtvhive.com/2012/01/30/lana-del-rey-first-album-5-points-records-interview/). After receiving $10,000 from the contract, Lizzy moved into Manhattan Mobile Home Park in New Jersey, while retaining a residence with her sister in NY. Video from her interview with Index Magazine at the trailer park: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZI5iaCyL6ELizzy and David released the Kill Kill EP in 2008, but her first studio album was shelved, resulting in a shift of interest to charity work. "Homeless outreach, drug, and alcohol rehabilitation—that's been my life for the past five years," she told Vogue UK in 2012. She chooses the stage name "Lana Del Rey" for herself after a "series of managers and lawyers" suggest that she pick a new name to better represent the dark, cinematic music that she was making. (http://www.repeatfanzine.co.uk/interviews/LanaDelRey.htm)

Two years later, her debut studio album, Lana Del Ray, produced by Kahne, was digitally released. Her father assisted with the album's marketing. The album was withdrawn shortly thereafter and, three months after the album's release, Lana met her current managers, Ben Mawson and Ed Millet, who encouraged her to distance herself from 5 Points because her progress had stagnated. Shortly afterwards, Lana relocated to London to be closer to her management and lives with Mawson for a couple of years. During this time period, she appears on MTV singing "Chet Baker" with Mando Diao (
). Lana begins directing homemade music videos for demos of new songs and uploads them to the Internet. After her video for "Video Games" goes viral and attracts attention, she is signed to Polydor/Interscope/Stranger Records in 2011. Prior to her debut album's release, Lana secures spot on SNL but struggles due to stage fright, a recurring theme in performances and early interviews. Born to Die is released in January of 2012 to polarizing reviews, but becomes a commercial success and catapults Lana to the popular music stratosphere.

    BTD without a doubt
  9. Elsemarie159 liked a post in a topic by Thunder Revenant in HONEYMOON - Is it BTD 2.0 or UV 2.0?
It#s not Born To Die at all, I don't know how y'all are getting this feeling. Born To Die is much more pop.ish and her vocal style was still very different, so were the instrumentals and the atmosphere of the album.

It's not Uv.2.0 aswell, but it's closer to it in terms of vocals and sound.

i wish she wouldn't have said that she was going back to her BTD roots because honestly i can barely hear the similarities between this album and BTD and i had my hopes up... but it's still a great record

it's closer to Ultraviolence to me

The Blackest Day really provides with some raw, real emotion. My favorite.

I think DLMBM is a great closer for the album, because of the themes of the press, paparazzi, and the critics. I feel like this cover was aimed at them.

I highly disliked Ultraviolence except for FMWUTTP but Honeymoon is ....
  15. Elsemarie159 liked a post in a topic by Thunder Revenant in Honeymoon - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
Born To Die had Nancy Sinatra x Lolita vocals, dramatic orchestra x hip hop beats, samples and e-drums, romance x tragedy ... all of these combinations made it very diversive and iconic.
Paradise had this power of evoking many emotions with each of it songs, it sounded like desire, loneliness, fragility and happiness ...
Ultraviolence is almost concept album-esque, with all it's dark yet summery vibes. It has a very raw and emotional sound and the lo-fi-rock was something different.

I really like the album with it's minimalistic yet very effective instrumentals, the use of more "uncommon" instruments and the laid-back atmosphere. It's coherent, yet each song is very unique.
I like every song (GKIT and TLY may be weaker songs, but I still really like them) but ... somehow the album's missing something to be her "greatest album so far" or my favourite one. It#s great to have Hobeymoon and I appreciate it a lot, but somehow it feels "least special" for me so far.

i wish Honeymoon had more iconic songs like BTD and UV had, when you think of BTD you think Video Games, National Anthem, Blue Jeans. When you think UV you think West Coast, Brooklyn Baby, Shades of Cool, Black Beauty. but when i think of HM i dont really think of particular iconic songs. maybe its because its early in the era but i dont see any songs becoming icons beside maybe MTWBT, Salvatore, Religion, and TBD

i'm so conflicted. i love honeymoon, but what it suffers from is a lack of variety. the songs on their own are great, but the album is all so slow/barely mid-tempo that it becomes laborious to listen to the whole thing at once. all of the songs have a similar 'feel' to them. the thing is, i like that 'feel'! but those songs don't get to shine in an album that lacks variety. we can't appreciate the slow, sensual moments as much because the entire album is that way.

let's think about ultraviolence. i've heard so many people say that was an album of sleepy songs. but we also had songs like west coast, MPG, FMWUTTP, & florida kilos to break up the monotony, you know?

this is the first time i really feel like the lyrics are besides the point. they are more a vehicle for the melody than anything. she was right when she described HM as being more "surrealistic" and less personal.

that said, i can appreciate pretty much anything lana puts out. i am here because of her voice & that has never disappointed me. on this album her vocals are even more self-assured & fluid & reach new heights. i'm glad she stopped trying to change her natural vocal range.

the album highlights for me are the blackest day ( perfection), salvatore (get out of my head!), freak (hot), terrance loves you (watch me cry), & music to watch boys to (  )

This is an issue I have. I just cannot move on from Born To Die and it's annoying for me. I really like Honeymoon, I adore it, but I just cannot put in my No.1 since Born To Die is what made me love Lana. I get emotional whenever I think of my first time listen. Born To Die is such a beautiful record, I really wish I could get over it, I do, but I just cannot. I hope that as time goes on, Honeymoon takes BTD away from my No.1 and I'm happy to say, that this may happen cause I fucking love Honeymoon.
    K, bye

Paradise era is awesome to me. I love alot of that material. Nothing like timeless great music.
I also love the sounds of Brooklyn baby. A sound like that on a new album, would be killer vibe for me.
This sounds absolutley amazing on a really good home stereo equipment.
my neighbors probably though there was a Lana concert going on nearby..
(actually they have no clue who Lana is..)
