True, but at the same time Lust for Life was lyrically incredibly corny and faux-woke with its half assed message of "hope" and subtheme of "PoLiTiCaL cLiMaTe".

I don’t feel we can trust ANYTHING LDR says about her political affiliations, at any time. Songs like ‘American’ certainly don’t seem to celebrate the Democratic-Liberal POV, so initially I considered her to be conservative or a Republican, even if only vaguely so, as if politics were no a big concern or interest for her.

Subsequently, after a good deal of attacks from the Left, she’s come out as a Democrat and also as something of a liberal, insofar as she’s expressed unwavering support for several liberal causes as well as her great dislike for Trump. However, lately she’s redefined herself yet again, as “a moderate.”

So who the hell knows what her genuine political ideology is, if any?? I feel she just kisses whatever ass she feels pressured to kiss at a given time or moment. I don’t think she’s in any way politically astute, or even knowledgeable.

There’s the cop, there’s that church she’s affiliated with, there’s her witchcraft spell against Trump, and so on.

Let’s not forget she once described herself as a ‘chameleon soul.’

Nothing wrong with negative opinions about the album, but they do get a little grating when they have a "this is fact" attitude about them. The album is clearly loved by the majority.

There is a difference between discussing/ critique and beating a dead horse. You guys made your point. Several times. We all got how you feel about the album. And you are entitled to your opinion.
Right now it is actually reaching a level where you ARE in fact just spreading negativity for the sake of it though.

If you don’t like the full dynamic, organic soundscape, you should compress it and lower the quality, not try to improve it. That’s the problem, the quality is too high so you hear more extra sounds that don’t make it through on a lower quality. Use a flac converter and turn the flac files into mp3 or wma files (or just get the pink vinyl). Yeah, compressing it makes it kinda tinny and flat, but it’s slicker and loses the “mistakes” left in. It’ll sound more comparable to Born to Die or Paradise that way. As an audiophile, I personally prefer the more dynamic sound we got since you can almost hear right into the room. But I know this soundscape isn’t popular with everyone, and creating the illusion of being more polished and synthetic can be achieved by compressing it. It won’t sound perfect, but if you enjoy the songs and just don’t like the style of production, that’s the easiest fix. If you just don’t like the songs though, I don’t have any solutions yet. But I’m a big believer that there’s a solution for everything.

agree with most but LFL is clearly season 7 of teletubbies, not 5. S7 aired in 2016 in the wake of president trump's elect, but the episodes themselves focus on being carefree, having fun and holding out hope even in the face of fascist turmoil - episodes like "silly sausages" see children having fun in the park, "sing song" sees laa laa make up a pretty little song that she then shares with the other teletubbies, "ballet" features dipsy and the tiddlytubbies dancing all episode long. when the world was at war we kept dancing indeed. however, it was not a season that completely ignored the cultural climate surrounding it - much like LFL as an album, it had moments of reflection and personal introspection. take the episode "reflections", for example - the teletubbies notice their reflection in a puddle (a statement on our ever-shifting climates, when you consider that towards the end of the episode the sun comes back out, shining bright as if its a hot summer day) then as dipsy bends down to further inspect his reflection in a way he hasn't before, his hat falls off and gets wet, emphasising the idea that now our titular characters are beginning to understand these personal investigations into their mind, their mirrored images and their entire state of being not only have an existential and philosophical value, but a real world one, too. while dipsy is undoubtedly disappointed to have gotten his hat wet, it urges him to consider how he can apply these internal ideas into external life, because these personal reflections of ours not only exist in the real world but can impact it too. change is a powerful thing, people are powerful beings.

To me it really feels like ppl try to find excuses as why they do not click with the album as much as with her previous ones. You may not like the imperfections, but they are not mistakes.
Elevating a "flawless" production as something universally better does not look better than the obsessive Jack stan endless trolling!

I can't believe I took time to read your entire post missing my whole point...
The reason why I'm talking about UV is because people who criticise NFR because of the flaws also praise UV even though it technically has many flaws too. And yeah Dan isn't going to produce her next album but he still produced UV and the album has flaws, so why doesn't that bother people? Why are the flaws in UV acceptable but not in NFR? That was my point.

I am a huge Jack stan not just for his work with Lana but Bleachers is life BUT I'm not gonna go shoving it down people's throats. hope I'm not ass-kissing tho

and his work on NFR is amazing. y'all are just nitpicking. even objectively it's a very well produced album.

NFR def has imperfections, and I get why people don't like that, but not everything has to be glossy. The shifts in the background, her lips moving, the voice whistles, the ambient hiss, etc. make the album feel more natural. It's not like they were like "let's make lip smacking noises and make shifting noises in the bg to give it a more retro feel!", it all just happend, and they kept it in, which I personally like. These aren't flaws, they're imperfections. Some people don't like imperfections, but others do.

I do think the "fame fame fame" background vocals being kept in was lazy, but Jack didn't even work on that track.

Wait people are bothered about the mouth noises and maybe some room sounds in the background? I think it's those elements that make the listening of the album so much special, it makes it more real and authentic, like you're in the room with them as they're playing. Also Lana's deep breaths and mouth noises give me ASMR tingles (and turn me on a bit too)

I agree on the static noise behind her vocals on Bartender and BAR; I don't find it as annoying as on Chage or Heroin though. Also the different slight microphone fuck-ups like Cinnamon girl, HTD or Love Song (Personally I never noticed it in Love song, it's barely there, who even notices that lmao) are so minimal that it doesn't even really matter, come on now. Nitpicking at its finest.

And Ultraviolence and Honeymoon are definetly more cohesive than NFR. I think Honeymoon is her most cohesive body of work to date

I hate jack, but if you can't see that the production flaws are intentional, you have worms in your brain and lack critical thinking skills outside 'ooh pretty music' and 'ew ugly music'

Lana acting concerned about the environment despite her personal carbon footprint being massive through use of yachts and private jets alone is laughable

The use of private jets is hardly ever necessary outside of medical emergencies and, on a more controversial level, heads of state

By using them u are producing 10 times the amount of carbon per passenger

A 2 hour flight on her private jet will amount to approx 5.2 tonnes of CO2, so 10.4 tonnes for the return flight, we are recommended to multiply that initial figure by 1.9, which makes the total sum even higher, meaning from just one return private flight, Lana is already using up three times more tonnes than the average citizens yearly emissions

Therefore Lana's personal carbon footprint is much higher in comparison, which is not even a question, especially considering she has far less people aboard in comparison to a commercial jet. The idea is that Lana is so privileged she can z00m0z00m her private jet around while paying for offset (which is the equivalent of abusing a woman but then donating to women's shelters to rectify it) but the thing is, average people cannot do that and would instead need to decrease consumption meaning they will have issues with higher prices. So, Lana is out of touch because she will not have to tackle the consequences of her forthcoming policies the same way a normal person would

The flaws in NFR are obviously intentional though.. People just got different taste, different opinions, it doesn't make them "delusional". With that being said, anyone who hates on 'hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have - but I have it' is in fact delusional, cause 'hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have - but I have it' is objectively a masterpiece. It's a fact, you can't have "opinions" about the level of excellence of 'hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have - but I have it', cause its pure excellence is a fact. People are afraid to open up and accept true raw emotions. The honest emotional lyrics, the laid back production with full focus on her voice, the iconic title, everything about this song is objectively good and it's kinda embarrassing that people are still pretending that the song's anywhere near not a masterpiece. Thinking NFR is better than Honeymoon or Ultraviolence however, is a valid opinion, cause it's all about personal taste. You can't say one album's objectively "better" than the others, it depends on people's personal taste. I personally like the imperfections the record has, not everything has to be glossy.
