I finally listened. Count me in the group who liked it more than they thought they would. Damn girl. The backing music is great. Brings a beatnik quality to the whole thing at times.

I will probably hold off on over listening to it until I get to read the whole book. I want it in my hands. And of course the CD and LPs will probably be better quality anyways than this crap audible download. But I am glad it’s finally here. And it doesn’t suck. Lol...

Violet and NFR truly complement each other so beautifully. After listening to them together a few times in the mixed and rearranged tracklist I posted on the last page, I can really see the synergy between the two - how each poem enhances its sister song and makes for a wholistic understanding of Lana’s headspace and perspective from ages 32-34. The little parallels and lyrical/poetical continuities between both projects make me smile. I am so grateful we have this gift of Lana’s writing and I hope she never stops. I can’t wait to listen to Chemtrails in September and develop further insights into that record’s narrative when Behind the Iron Gates is released in March. I hope she continues to release music and poetry that coincide with each other, as I feel we get to see a side of Lana that we don’t with her music. It takes a great deal of vulnerability to reveal all that much more in another medium and I feel like even though we don’t personally know her, we all probably feel a lot closer to her.

Solipsistic is the ungenerous way to describe VBBOTG because it sees introspection as an indulgence rather than a vulnerability.

It’s very revealing that she references the early criticism of her being fake and mentions herself as “Elizabeth Grant”, things that we know about but Lana rarely talks openly about. It’s about the closest we can get to her inner life.

It always annoys me how much I love this because there’s nothing else like it. The closest I can think of are Joan Baez’s Baptism album or the song “Past, Present and Future“ by The Shangri-La’s, but even those don’t come anywhere close to this. Something about it reminds me of Sgt Pepper a bit but I can’t figure it out since they’re clearly not sonically or thematically similar so who knows with that one lol. I almost hope artists do copy Lana with this bc even though they wouldn’t be as good, there would be more of these lol. If anyone can think of anything they feel is similar in anyway (even if you can’t figure out why), let me know bc I’m so obsessed with Violet right now. Ugh I can’t wait til her other poetry album.

Howdy, I am new to the lanaboards but a long time fan. I saw some people are curious about what a few of the lines from "LA Who Am I To Love You?" could mean and below is my interpretation

"Back home to the Tudor house
That borned a thousand murder plots
    Hancock Park
    It's treated me very badly
    I'm resentful
    The witch on the corner
    The neighbor nobody wanted
The reason for Garcetti's extra security"

Lana had fans invade her Hancock Park home so it was a bad experience that has her feeling resentment. She's referring to herself as the witch in the home on the corner and that her neighbors didn't want her living next to them, including politician Eric Michael Garcetti (mayor of Los Angeles since 2013) who she is claiming had more security guards hired at his Hancock Park home because of her (probably due to the infatuated fans).

“I love you, but you don't understand me,
    I'm a real poet!
My life is my poetry, my love making is my legacy!
My thoughts are about nothing, and beautiful, and for free”

    All the feels :defeated:

I'm really looking forward to this audiobook. It will be perfect for hungover days. Or days when you feel blue and just want to go for a quiet walk. At least now we won't have to keep replaying the ride/national anthem monologues over and over when we wanna act extra dramatic.

Is she alright ? Why does she include multiple old songs in her tracklist, and what is that cover ?
I'm sorry but, in my opinion, she completely lost her artistic vision after "Teenage Dream" (the album - and not including the Complete Confection edition).
I did like some songs like "Chained to the Rhythm" and "365" though but they don't feel "Katy". Anywhoo, all the best to her and I hope she's enjoying every moment of her pregnancy !

marina didnt lie... you have to be literally mentally ill to be okay with not only assaulting innocent people (whether it is to "protect" the government, or just because you're a white supremacist), but also cosigning your buddies who rape women, beat their wives, and get up every day hoping they get to have a power trip and shoot someone. no sane person would ever choose this profession. sociopathy and lack of empathy are mental illnesses and every cop have them. it's not like she's trying to insult people with mental illnesses, but this is a serious problem that needs to be addressed.
