So apparently Sean's Police Department is still treating policing like a fucking reality TV show after the mayor just met with activists the other day and agreed to cancel the contract with Live PD.

I'm really happy to see people more critical of Lana's politics though I'm still more bothered by her not addressing her own personal missteps related to racism than her not addressing the racism of others. The argument that people with large platforms should be using them to raise awareness is well taken, but I'm honestly curious why a consensus seems to be forming around Lana having an obligation to raise awareness about this particular issue. Why not Michael Brown, Philando Castile, Walter Scott, Tamir Rice, Eric Harris, Laquan McDonald, Eric Garner, Trayvon Martin, Sandra Bland, Terence Crutcher, Ahmaud Arbery, Botham Jean, etc. etc. Why not the oppression of Palestinians in Israel? Kids in cages? Drone killings under Obama? Indefinite detainees rotting in Gitmo without a trial?

Fake deep voice during Born To Die, fake breathy Marilyn Monroe impressions during interviews, fake gangster Nancy Sinatra act.   You have to be completely oblivious to believe she wasn't playing persona.    And even if she were consistent in lying, which she's not, it still wouldn't matter because consistent lying is still lying.   https://www.nme.com/news/music/lana-del-rey-says-less-persona-now-2069996

Can we stop using a racist as if it's one category and a noun? People can be racist without being "a racist" I've had loved ones... people I've trusted... friends.... be racist. And I am a black woman. It doesn't mean I automatically see them as a confederate flag waving bigots, but they have been racist and said/done racist things, and it can't be ignored and has to be called out. People think you have to have racist intentions to be racist. No. Even good people with good intentions can perpetuate racism and they must learn from those moments. It's not just overt hate that exists within the realm of racism we experience. You can be racist without being "a racist." And thus Lana absolutely can say something racist. It's called ignorance and it's still no excuse. Let's please stop acting like it only applies to one evil category of people. And also, having black friends or partaking in black culture doesn't free you from the cycle of racism. I'm not even sure what the context of this response was, but the one of steps toward combating racism is recognizing in all forms (small and large and within a one's ownself) and not feeling so damn uncomfortable about it!

This is a much better statement. Wish she'd started with this. But in the context of her comments over the last week or so it's still trying to minimize her missteps and deny her belligerence and initial inability to listen. Still too focused on receiving criticism. And I'm not criticizing her for this, everyone's doing it, but the issue of posting pictures of even peaceful protesters is a real one given police use of facial recognition and our history of police and FBI targeting activists. Many privacy advocates would tell you not to do it without significantly degrading image quality or blurring faces.

I can't believe like 6 of y'all read "she can't be racist she collabed with a black person!!" and thought that was it. y'all are as ignorant as lana bye

I don’t think Lana’s racist at all (she’s ignorant tho), but this “she has black friends” argument I’ve been seeing a lot on here needs to stop. It’s not that black and white. (no pun intended)

But she hasn't changed. The last time she showed the racially insensitive, person she is that's unwilling to listen to the voices of POC was like a week ago.  I'll await the day she does though

Racism isn't just people going "I HATE BLACK PEOPLE", it's subtle. Racists always swear to god they're not racists. You need to be discerning and look at someones consistent behavior to be able to tell, and that entire instagram letter, not caring that she may have been insensitive and just got mad at the accusation of being racist, dating a cop and then saying he's one of the good ones, saying you're just "in the middle" politically, suddenly acting hood and saying "im gonna fuck you up" to a black woman for criticizing her activism, acting like the most noteworthy issue in all of this is the looting, and so much more, is just shit that racist people do.

tbh i'm not asking anything of her. she can post all she wants about BLM but it's not gonna change that she's consistently proved she has no grasp on race issues in america. when someones simply not-racist, you don't need to ask them to post things to prove how not-racist they are, it would just be obvious.

Qwhite interesting that so many people here are willing to excuse and defend Lana putting up the video in ignorance and taking an hour to delete it but condemning Tinashe and Kehlani for jumping to twitter instead of DMs in frustration at a white woman who had spent the past week or so fumbling words and telling people who were frustrated at her to "fuck off" and that they were causing a "race war".... seems fragile

while i’m glad she deleted the photo quickly when asked, how did she not realize what she was doing? all over twitter and social media i’ve seen so much about protecting the identities of the protesters due to potential retaliation. she’s so uneducated about the most common sense things..
