I think Cyndi Lauper was 30 when “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” was released so it’s not a big deal for me personally but I do agree that some songs on NTMT are so juvenile (as much as I like them). This is why I’d been excited for her to follow it up with something that showed evolution both sonically and personally, more age-appropriate for her to sing.

I will say in her defence partially and this is industry standard, some write songs and get people to reference them for melodies-it doesn’t necessarily mean she didn’t write anything but yeah the dev hynes song has like one or two words changed max.

Talking in riddles gets her nowhere especially after 10 years of label drama, there’s nothing left to lose if she rips the band aid right off and starts giving explicit details tbh.

Respectfully, she doesn’t strike me as someone who’s exhausted every possible resource she could to improve her situation. I’m not calling her lazy because we know she’s sitting on (maybe too much) music but it is true she could be more reactive.
Some users go overboard on here but part of the tough love and frustration is because people know she could be great if she got out of her head and just went for it. Leaking her material wouldn’t turn any profit for her whatsoever but does it say on the contract she can’t set up a Patreon or Bandcamp? People would genuinely support these if there were consistent material/transparency. Air out who exactly is blocking your releases, when and what they promised you only to take it away, etc. Or get a music lawyer to mediate and strike up a deal where both you and Capitol can benefit if you fear legal retribution.
Easier said than done but it does no one any good (especially herself) if she just leans into helplessness because that means whoever is allegedly holding her down has won. It’s unfortunate she’s so insecure and understandable if her heart isn‘t in it anymore because of the well-documented interference but if she’s 100% honest, people will be sympathetic.

    I agree with half posts.

I do wish she would open up. Just throw shit on the fan and make it clear, say the names and the whole story. That's the only way anyone can actually support her and buy the story and make the media aware. Being vague "Some people aren't helping" "I'm waiting for some answers" and this kind of shit doesn't... make sense. Even Halsey staging that TikTok drama (that pretty much triggered her the fuck up, since she first announced the Don't Forget music video for the same day as "So Good" was being released) should have been enough for her to just blow things out of water instead of the "wtf but I am the original tortured little girl???"

If Capitol isn't willing to let her do her work, if they're not letting her express herself, then let it be clear as day. She's not releasing music anyway, at least make hell on earth for them. For someone with one album, 10 years ago, there's still a fanbase and media support.

Sometimes I also do think she wants a Fiona Apple\Extraordinary Machine moment.

I wanted someone to challenge her to talk about it openly on Instagram or other social media, no more blaming Capitol in interviews, come out and explain the whole situation. Even in a "movement" in her favor, she is passive. For once in your life take the reins of the whole situation and do something useful with it, we are here to help but this is HER problem and if there is no move from HER this "cause" will have no value and importance to anyone.

Ik there was a joke that she should have her “Look What You Made Me Do” moment but it wouldn’t be a bad idea if she made a song out of her label drama/creative plateau (instead of parroting the same talking points for interviews ddd). I guess Don’t Forget was kind of that but it seems more addressed to an ex if anything?
Sky’s probably too self-conscious and resentful to harken back to her electropop princess days (justice for 99 Tears!) but I’d like to see if she’s capable of a high-octane banger like this

    Ya mad, rancid girl?
I have absolutely NO CLUE of why some of you get TRIGGERED when discussing someone with 1 (one) album and that has been just one giant example of label fuckery and mismanagement. An easy-and-quick Google can show you how some mammoths from the Music Industry were trapped in label hell for YEARS, including Sky Ferreira's own Fairy Godmother Michael Jackson; Then we have much more recent cases like JoJo, Kesha, Tinashe, Charli XCX and many other girls who signed contracts when they were underage and were put through HELL for no other reason than... you know, "because we can. You should have read the lines!"

It's pretty clear that any initial plan to sell Sky as a major pop artist backfired and, by that point (and I'm talking about 2011. 11 Years Ago) they already invested some great Million$$ on her. They literally had a full album ready for release, 3 music videos, she wasn't working with your next door Soundcloud producer but Dallas Austin and Bloodshy & Avant. It wasn't some sort of "She's cute, we're gonna give this bedroompop girl a chance!", No, it's a fact that SKY FERREIRA was a project that Capitol failed to manage and sell. Once the singles didn't stick, the debut album was shelved, she was put on the refrigerator and no one knew what to do anymore. I guess if you're soooooo entitled about label politics, you know that Major Labels are almost like Loans and artists are obligated to refund every penny invested on the process + have to make sure there's PROFIT. Sky Ferreira wasn't profitable, and then she started to take control and make sure that her music was aligned to her own taste, which meant a left turn over the sound instead of bright-shiny-electropop.

We heard from the horse's mouth that she had to foot the bill over Night Time My Time, and the lack of investment from Label resulted in no singles being promoted apart from You're Not the One and I Blame Myself (which, shocking, weren't pushed over Radio). The album was released without physical copies ready on the release date, and most of the material was released in batches mostly done over demand (so, yes, you can't buy a "Night Time My Time" Vinyl without giving your mortgage away because they were limited pressing in 2014 and then nothing else). She also said that the album being critically acclaimed and adored wasn't something that impressed them, or made them bown down and say "Ok, you were right", but more likely made them resentful that 21yo. Girl managed to put an album out without their hands. If that's not lowkey personal....

And of course, as my original post stated, there's no way she is a saint and shouldn't be blamed. Her "endless perfectionism" is still aggravating the process. But after all this time, she's been the one who actually put stuff on her soundcloud and performed unreleased content. She can be the one editing the music video just because they actually said "You know what? We are not paying anyone anymore to edit this just because you don't like it, lol" and that still doesn't mean she'll be able to release it without propper approval. She also said the music video has been done for 3 (over 4 now) months, so maybe you should send Capitol a DM on twitter asking where is it, since you're besties.

I swear it's fucking psychotic how some of you really want to undermine what it is like to be under a corporation and try to bash artists, mostly women, without giving it a second thought.

In other news, Happy Birthday Night Time My Time!! Few artists have such a bulletproof Debut album. Maybe because it was like the third album or so in the making, but you get it.

Rih’s ballads usually don’t miss for me but this one feels… unremarkable. There are some great soundtrack songs that are still able to stand on their own and this is just tepid  Perched for the other song though

It's so awkard to see the whole promo blitz they arranged. All these magazines and interviews (saying the same thing over and over again; music video being finished, album coming this year) were probably done all at same time, with some type of schedule for Summer promo and album probably coming in late fall\early winter. And then nothing happened... again.

I can just imagine the chaos that runs across Capitol whenever "Sky Ferreira" is mentioned. At this point it's pretty clear that it is something personal between them and she's trapped. And of course she probably has her own blame around it, but no way the label is a saint. I can only imagine it takes so long to get things moving that she gets cold feet and keeps re-starting her process and trying other stuff without finishing and releasing the old ones. No way "Masochism" is the same album she envisioned back in 2014, and I'm just surprised we didn't go through 3 name changes already.

Exactly, like she definitely is a flawed artist but once fans start calling her a “dumb ungrateful crackhead bitch” who should be silenced by a cohort of (male) executives they’re not any different than the QAnon freaks who just see her as some hot piece of ass. Y’all can vent your frustrations about her without being weird, gross, and entitled.
