When good intentions don't cut it, people turn your tone deaf/less than smart moves into you actually wanting to be malicious, making it seem like said moves are you genuinely being ill intentioned. This is getting fucking ridiculous. I understand and agree with most of the criticism in regards to her approach, but she listened to criticism and legit took down the video. This is getting extremely vicious and tiresome now.

Lana sweetie, do yourself a service and just disconnect for a while.

I think if Lana resists the temptation to defend herself for now and the majority of her fans will stand their ground and look at it relatively rationally (which I think most in her fanbase are capable of) she’ll be ok. It’s important now for her to understand it’s not the right time to defend yourself as heated as everything is right now and also because a lot of the digs against her are unfair trolls only waiting for her to snap till they get tired of it and find someone new. Sadly those who want to be mean to her will most likely never let that go again but that will not sabotage her for life. Kim Petras is literally becoming bigger in spite of all the accusations against her.

That is defamation of character and Lana should contact the owner with a lawyer and ask it to be removed and a public apology.

I don't remember UV the song being particularly controversial outside of Twitter but yeah that guardian interview was a complete mess.

Ugh, UV era was so iconic.

I mean, many of the controversies during the UV era were exclusive to her fanbase and Twitter and stuff but...

When the Ultraviolence song came out... people were mad.

And then the "I wish I was dead already" interview was simply a mess and a half. People couldn't stop talking about it.

And then well the whole album and the lyrics.

    The era could've been messier.

@@sexyslutboy - absolutely! For Harriet's video is fabulous. I'm linking it here for everyone else to check out.

A great quote from this is "You don't have to try to do harm, to do harm."

I'm unsure how many of the comments on the previous page are taking about my post, but I would like to clarify:

Anyone is entitled to be offended by Lana's statement, because despite her good intentions, it was a clumsy and misguided statement.

I do however find it dangerous to imply or attribute statements to people who didn't actually say them, and while implications are associated with the original post, to me there is no sentiment where she implied black women in music didn't have the capacity to be sensitive. Just a bunch of other problematic things.

Her career isn’t over lol, even if some people turn off her for good she still has many fans. Her insta has a lot of supporters in the comments, even poc.

Once this all settles (which it will), people will move on to the next social media drama. She has most definitely said enough though, this is clearly not an issue she can just freely talk about so if she has any brains she’ll step back from this bullshit for a while. Her first insta post and then second “explanation” were clear enough, but she kept going on and on trying to explain herself, made a video, ect. I get it, she was clearly trying to clarify everything but it really wasn’t working. People just don’t want to hear it, so she needs to stop.

Is she the only celebrity that has posted videos like this? Genuine question.

maybe queen will shift her focus from the US back to Europe like she did in 2012-14 because of all the negative american media attention

some people really are hateful. valid criticisms are obviously fine but some people really take it to another level.

I don't think we need to worry about her career. There are so many racist people in America - they probably love her even more now.

In all seriousness, if/when her new album is released there's only going to be a minor murmur from this point of time from people who were following (Lana stans and Twitter). Almost everyone agrees she is well intentioned, but terribly and ignorantly executed - I think even the biggest critics here on Lanaboards would agree she didn't intend to cause harm (regardless of the aftermath) and anyone that thinks she is being malicious is delusional. My point is that people still listen to horrible people who have done and said far worse things, and Lana's music will continue to be listened to. If you can't quit her music but hate her now, it's time to separate the artist from the art.

She was never part of the mainstream, so this isn't going to really push her out of anything . . .
I expect much later down the track she will do a number of interviews on this and will have the help of a writer to properly articulate her rationale and, hopefully, an apology and an acknowledgement of her mistake about positionality. It might seem like I'm dismissing this, but if you're basing it on the reactions of Lanaboards and Twitter uhhhhh they are really not indicative of the real world, and the average person will not care. If you look at her Facebook, which is an entirely different demographic, most of the top posts are people affirming her speaking out.

She posted the video, people asked her to delete it, she deleted it.
Now, people who haven't seen the post, but read the previous comments or saw it on Twitter, are filling her Instagram with comments asking her to delete what has already been deleted... I-

If I didn’t want some albums anymore, I would just donate them to a second hand store or sell them and donate the money instead of smashing them. But I guess it wouldn’t look as impressive on social media. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

it's been very difficult to be a lana del rey fan these past several weeks, but if she quits music, i would be a little devastated. it would be so sad to think that people bullied her out of making art and sharing it with her fans. she's made some very questionable choices lately, and needs to be held reasonably accountable, but she doesn't deserve to be bullied and dragged out of her career, she's not r. kelly or 6ix9ine, people who actually deserve to lose their fame and power.

Tbh after all of this, I wouldn’t be surprised if we never see an album or anything from her ever again. The way people are dragging her, degrading her, and downright bullying her is disgusting. No one deserves that. People know that she’s sensitive and it’s not like she doesn’t read some of the things people say. She’s a human being and whether you agree with her actions this month or not, some the things I am seeing on Twitter and Instagram are not okay. I would not blame her one bit if she stops putting out music.
