I think that if Solar Power would have been released before CoCC, the discussion would be vice versa.
That's the problem me and many others had with Chemtrails . Unlike NFR, where you could really hear how Lana and Jack influenced each other and created something new, CoCC's production sounded interchangeable, like something that was slapped on the songs because there was no other option/ idea and not because it actually fit them. The same seems to be the case with Solar Power.
Melodrama was a very fruitful moment for Lorde and Jack,  so she came back to him for SP. But since she seemingly lacks inspiration and a clear vision this time around, Jack just did his bread-and-butter production and the results are mediocre at best. It's kind of sad, because this was supposed to be a big comeback, but maybe Lorde's just over music/ not in the right mood for it rn?

the thing is I can easily tell now which songs are produced by jack bc he has started overusing a signature sound. Old money, wfwf, are mostly piano (yes which lana wanted) but I can tell its not jack, his piano sounds much hollower and his instruments have this weird distant twang to them that's now become his signature, with the new St Vincent, Lorde, Bleachers and T.S. stuff I can easily identify its Jack's production. The producers Lana are with now are much more versatile and their stuff sounds solid even if they are going to just use piano, because they're not attached to an uninspired sparse jingly folk vibe. Jack on the other hand is constantly recycling melodies and riffs. Ultimately its his (and Laura Sisk's) procedure for which instrument/microphone to use, audio choices, the arrangements, etc. Lana obviously just gives ideas of what she's feeling.
Jack has a very recognizable style that's just been getting worse lately no matter who he works with. cmon all these artists cant be asking for this SAME sound

Don’t get it twisted, I totally don’t want another Pure Heroine or Melodrama, but I wanted a mature, introspective 70s/80s inspired groovy sounding album like the title track promised - not fake-deep 60s/70s folk. Lorde deserves better than to sound like she’s singing Lana’s scraps.

I agree but you know what would be super cute? If the fans were able to construct a digital map of albums where you try to figure out whose CD booklet is next to yours based on how well the paint marks align, and over time you end up building a network of fans from all over the world. And once all the albums are accounted for Billie releases a surprise alboomlikethat

a gay can dream I keep hoping she chose Mike Dean because of his work with other artists (and just his background in synth-heavy music in general), but it is hard to imagine her moving drastically from her current sound.

Then again, she’s also noticeably leaned into different genres several times (like aspects of trip hop for BTD desert rock elements in UV, folk in COCC, etc), so hopefully we’ll—at some point in the near-ish future—see some variation in terms of genre and production

I still don't get why people fight over tracks being officially released.
I don't want unreleased tracks we already have, I want new songs

and hmmmmmmm. also just wanted to say. wanted cherry blossom on the other album last time, and was made to seem delusional. but now. ya'll want it bc somehow it's confirmed? fickle motives ya'll. on the supposed tracklist, ya don't want it for the rite reasons then. is that and the few who actually wanted it our revenge? well anyway then we see how it is.
