I had to run to catch my train yesterday and I was running during the build up at the end of the new song and it honestly felt like I was in a movie LMAO would recommend 10/10

I don't think Lana is feeling any pressure to ''outdo'' herself, I think she's just making the music she feels like doing/likes best.

This constant pressure on female musicians to keep delivering and reinventing themselves with each release is very telling. Lana already delivered a baroque hip-hop album, a 70s rock album, an orchestral, jazzy and trap hybrid, an album with an amalgamation of all of these sounds (LFL), an indie singer-songwriter album, a folk album and Blue Banisters (which I can’t really describe or put in one specific genre). What else do you want her to do? Have the same sonic approach or lyrical subjects she had 10 years ago? I keep running into comments such as “there is no growth” that always provide little to no explanation or substance to it and we’re supposed to not question them? I’m not even remotely interested in changing other people’s opinions, I’m just curious as to why blanket statements like these keep getting made.

BOZ said one specific thing that hits double hard when its relatable.. to enjoy her newer music since 2021 we need to let old style lana go... thats just really true, and accept the literal growth of her vision and poetry to be able to say free that i enjoy it, this is what ive always felt the lack of since nfr, and im really happy i finally understanding it, so im very excited for this intimate autobiographical masterpiece to destroy me

The exhale at the start of the song has more impact than the entirety of Blue Banisters

At the end of the day she gave us the COCC music video which ended up being one of her best, so I don’t think a big budget video is out of the question.

The fact that some "Lana fans" don't feel or even connect to the potent emotion and longing in this song today is just ... unfortunate.

No one can ruin this era for me. I have such an incredible feeling about this album. Can't even explain it. I'm buzzing.

People clutching their pearls and jumping into conclusions about the overall sound and direction of LDR9 despite the fact that BOZ said that the album is «so wild that he couldn’t believe that he loved it that much» and that it has a lot of variety and lush instrumentation is just sending me. Not to mention that she’s working with several new people on this record (Batiste, Genesis, etc.).

It’s pretty obvious that she’s currently fond of a more mellow/grounded/subtle sound and focuses on her conversational/free-flowing poetic lyricism, but there is space for sonic experimentation - see BOZ’s description of A&W - and vocal as well (White Dress on COCC; Sweet Carolina and Arcadia on BB). I happen to be a fan of her latest records, probably because I prefer my music sparser. Hopefully this new body of work is cohesive and showcases artistic growth.

Pitchfork’s review was to-the-point: the title track is an admittedly dreamier and more lush version of her latest style, sure,  but it also reveals little details in its sonic direction and influences - the sigh of relief; the celebratory choir; the tiny mumbling; the buildup; the crescendo of warmth -, as well as in its lyrics - the writing is far more layered and, dare I say, contradictory than expected: it’s both nostalgic and mournful; its deceptively straightforward metaphors about the fleetingness of life, forgotten spaces and blurry memories are quite devastating, because they can be interpreted in different ways, and I suppose they will be further illuminated by the overall concept and direction of the album.

I don’t know, I’m quite optimistic about the final result. But I’ll reserve my judgment until I get to listen to the entire record.

idk, if i were lana it would just kind of suck. if i did deliver the big eras, displayed and proved my versatility, won the critics and general public over, secured my legacy, and felt like i fulfilled my purpose and now deserved to relax, hang out with my friends, and simply make the music that comes out naturally and is fun to create just because i love making art. and then people started bashing me for not doing what i was doing 10 years ago. and it would suck more since i have actively been telling them exactly where i have been in my life through my art for the last 5 years

It cracks me up that Lana fans get mad when... Lana's always going to do exactly what she wants. If you don't like it, that's cool. But she's doing what she wants. Why even be mad? You have no choice. And I'm always down to go wherever she takes us. Did some of her choices on BB make sense to me? Not at all. But it's still a good album because it's a Lana album, and it's her vision.

Why not just enjoy the ride? We've heard 1 song from a 16 track album.

This is a good point, but i don't think if she'd want big success and big numbers she would do stuff like UV and BTD again , but the question is, would she like what she made? Like if UV kinda production and lyrics no longer suits her music ideas and melodies, she'll do something similar, will she stay true to herself? Will she put a soul into her music this way? Express herself?

Lana has NEVER appealed to streaming, yet her work has continued to snowball in streams especially in the last year.
I don’t believe Lana’s career is fragile enough for every new album to be a ‘make or break’ in terms of losing fans.
While I may not adore some of her newer work, I know she’s making what she wants and telling her story and for that I’ll always be grateful and always listen.
I am not sure why people come on here acting like they signed their life away to be a Lana fan and they can’t get out. No one is keeping you here. It does feel however that some people go into her newer work with a presumption (that may or may not be as a result of her change in aesthetics and appearance) that they won’t like it, and don’t even try to

Your tone is weirdly negative It's ok if you don't like the song but it seems like you're trying to CONVINCE people she's doing something wrong

Yeah, you have a point that anyone who places themselves in the business of music obviously wants a platform and wants to perform well on that platform -- but she already does. Over the last few years I have only seen Lana's fanbase grow thanks to streaming/things like Tik Tok. Heaps of people are discovering Lana everyday from a new trend on Tik Tok or an unreleased song gaining traction, whatever. If they tune in and find out they only like BTD or UV, great, that is always there for them to listen to then -- and they will probably! I don't think that she or anyone should be worried about her fanbase "shrinking" due to her sound.

Also, I think that the argument that she "doesn't care" about sales isn't that she would sell 10 copies and shrug it off, but rather that she's happy she has people who do love her music and the actual numbers of that success is secondary to that.

Lana still has the magic to create such cinematic songs. People here are too focused on the fact that it's similar to her past two albums, because it has a different emotion, there's a lot of instruments, and it builds up throughout the song. Lana has moved away from the typical pop song structures and now finds herself in small details, long verses, and making space for her poetry to shine. Even though she sings such "wordy" songs now, she devoted almost two minutes to harmonies with "don't forget me" and beautiful backing vocals. The 2nd part of the song also shows Lana's passion for making MUSIC and not just singing her verses with random noises in the background. Imo, this is her most cinematic song since Lust For Life, and this is how I imagined Lana would sound when she got older. Full of emotions, lyricism, and orchestras.

like yeah it’s nothing groundbreaking for her but it’s classic lana, the production is better than most things on cocc and bb, the song doesn’t sound empty of muffled, has good lyrics, the production is grand and rich, you hear orchestra, you hear an electric guitar, there’s a bridge…and it’s only 1 song out of 16 like can some people stop whining already

Every single sign points into a great direction this time and to something miles ahead of her last two records yet some people are STILL not happy bc iTs nOt uLtRaViOlEncE or trap
