After first listen, the standout tracks are The Grants, Did you know…, A&W, Candy Necklace, Let the Light In, Margaret, and Fishtail.
I need more time with Taco Truck X VB but my first reaction is the beats feel a little cheap for the VB part. I also need more time with Sweet, Kintsugi, Fingertips, Grandfather, and Peppers (again the beats feel a little cheap? I don’t know how to describe it).
    I enjoyed the interludes.
I did NOT like Paris, Texas

who mixed this album cause damn… this is even worse than the cracking at the end of WFWF

the clicking throughout fingertips, the saturated moments throughout the album, grandfather’s second half borderline unlistenable due to the bottom barrel mix… laura sisk you bitch

I just learned that Grandfather's instrumental is based on this piano instrumental track from RIOPY called 'Flo' and it's so beautiful but Jack Antonoff had the chance to ruin it towards the end just to have a climax with noise.  Lana PLEASE NEVER WORK WITH JACK ANTONOFF AGAIN

The entire album is full of mastering issues with audio cracklings. These are not present on the leaked versions and Dolby Atmos which has a different mastering. Can someone who talks to Ben or anyone from her team report these PLEASE they are so bad. It's not streaming specific it's on spotify, yt, digital flac etc.

Fingertips has to be one of her saddest and most vulnerable songs ever

Can't really get the excitement behind Grandfather. It's cute but I find it quite uneventful (similar to Margaret)

    2. Paris, Texas
    3. Fishtail
    4. Peppers
    5. Candy Necklace
    6. Taco Truck (alone)
    7. Taco Truck x VB
    8. Jon Batiste Interlude
    9. Sweet
    10. Kintsugi
    11. The Grants
    12. Ocean Blvd
    13. Let The Light In
    14. Grandfather
    15. Margaret
    16. Judah Smith Interlude
    17. Fingertips

Grandfather would have been so much higher but I just can’t stand her voice during the chorus? Climax? The whispery airy high voice is horrible but she keeps using it. The hissing hurts my ears . Text Book is the same way. Candy Necklace too tbh but somehow it works in that song and it definitely does not sound as hissy. Anyway, it’s so hard to rank songs. Things shift every other listens .

First listen impressions: A&W/Judah Smith Interlude/Candy Necklace/Jon Batiste Interlude had me thinking that this album would dethrone NFR for me as my #1 Lana album and #2 favorite album of all time. I was literally tearing up at the end of Candy Necklace. Kintsugi and Fingertips kinda ruined my mood though because it completely killed the momentum of the previous 4 songs and of the album so far. Paris, Texas is gorgeous and feels like it belongs with the 4 songs before Kintsugi/Fingertips.

    My favorites/highlights (no particular order):

A&W Judah Smith Interlude Candy Necklace Jon Baptiste Interlude Paris, Texas Fishtail Taco Truck x VB
^^ If I could have a whole album of songs similar to this + Tulsa Jesus Freak and Chemtrails, I think it’d be my favorite Lana album. I am curious if I would’ve liked the album more if all of these songs were on the second half of the album. It’d feel like more of a build up, but then again, I think the first half would’ve been to slow to keep interest for a lot of people without things being spread out more.

I was also surprised - from what people were saying here, I was expecting the second whole half of the album to be a lot more upbeat but really it’s only the last 3 songs, and they’re still very chill, slow songs for the most part, just with some harder beats.

Overall, even with me needing more time with a lot of the album, this feels like maybe Lana’s most ambitious work. It’s so exciting and refreshing to have an album from her that’s this experimental, especially after how safe and simple a lot of Chemtrails and Blue Banisters felt. This album feels reinvigorating to me. I’m excited to have so much content and nuance to sort through.

I wish she just censored it in the same way she censored for (Amy) and for (Whitney) in get free, and "...got a (cop) who turned..." in A&W.
I like that being a little motif in her music, that she just blacks out certain words that are too sensitive, like a redacted document.
the starry sparkle vibe over fingertips is too distracting

Please, I'm not sure, and if it's not intentional, I really don't want to ruin others' listening experiences, but at the very beginning of Peppers, there's a sound that sounds like a fart into a toilet and a quick laugh.
Please tell me what it really is so I can rewire my 5 year old brain.

Does anyone else think some of these songs remind you of musical theatre? *this is not a bad thing lmao* Sweet sounds just like a character breaking out into a soliloquy. Arcadia has a similar vein. Didn't she say something about working on a musical?

Margaret is Lana at her most 2000s indie/alt. It reminds me of feist and broken social scene

Okay, I caved and decided I had to listen tonight. I'm on Let the Light In. Wow. This album isn't hitting me with the immediacy that NFR! did, but there's something deeper and more special about it. The song structures are so unconventional and strange, and even on the songs that are the most "conventional," there's still something uncanny about it all - strange instrumentation, strange backing vocals. I can tell this is going to be an album that is just going to get deeper and deeper with each listen and I cannot wait to spend time with it. Wow. Even as a COCC and BB lover, there's something so different about DYKTTATUOB that really sets it apart.
