I feel like people are expecting more of jenny jumped into the pool nikki lane was doing cocaine behind my truck but I think Lana's inner monologue is more abstract and intricate than that and we are getting really complex lyrics where none of us would have a clue about what the fuck she's talking about

Aw that caption actually made me feel bad for her lol, hope she knows that there’s a lot of people rooting for her

yeah, ever since the start of BB’s rollout I’ve been not enjoying much of what she puts out (which is a real shame, as i’ve connected with so much of her work in the past). The fact that my favorite songs on BB are outtakes from years ago doesn’t give me much hope either, and i really don’t vibe with the lyricism of songs like BB/TB/WW. some songs would work much better as a poem for her next book, rather than a song on an album.

I find it funny when people take “wordiness” as something like off to the races, which…. i think we can easily deduce will not be the case.

Anyways, watercolor eyes was great and I hope she somehow finds a way to return to writing like that for a whole album! missing norman rn <\3

I wish she'd focus on the more sonic aspect of music rather than just the lyrics + piano

I'm curious to see how this "wordy, conversational album" will fuse with what Rob described as "ethereal" and a possible insider described with the words "foggy beachy vibes".
At least the W Magazine photos seem not to be contrary to what the latter revealed.

Yup. This is exactly why I think that while a song like "hope", while lyrically interesting, is a dud, it's boring, it doesn't make for casual listenings.

I think the stream of consciousness lyrical style works on certain songs, like "Text Book", but otherwise it's not really the vibe I prefer from her.

The "wordiness" doesn't always sound very melodic to me either tbh, it's kinda jarring at times, especially when it's paired with the faux-grand/understated type of production we had on NFR.

I'm just cautiously excited for new music at this point.

I go back and forth about her most painful rollout as a fan, and it most definitely was between NFR and Blue Banisters

Truly hoping it's not complete yet. The post-Portofino songs that are being dictated into a notes app at this very moment

Her being dressed up like Jackie Kennedy give me National Anthem / JFK vibes. Maybe Lana identifies with her on LDR9 and it's about her time after John's assassination. A lot of anger and sadness we could expect, I think this would be a perfect theme for a new Lana album.

You can say a lot of shit about Jack Antonoff, but he does have his finger on the pulse of his best music with Lana. He said The Greatest is the best song on NFR and White Dress is one of their best songs, and he was..not wrong. I trust him about this new track being on the same level.

To be fair, I don’t even need or want classic LDR back, I just want more amazing songs like The Greatest, Venice Bitch, etc and less songs with angry “imperfect” vocals songs (I’m getting Black Bathing Suit chorus vibes from this description).

I wished we had the title of the album with that interview… but kinda like that it won’t change either if she changes her mind.

Wordy album with “imperfect” vocals is not exactly what I was hoping for lol

The only producers I've ever really wanted Lana to work with more regularly again are Dan Heath and Tim Larcombe, so it'd be super cool if she did some work with them for LDR9. I mean, she went back to her OG makeup team, so I guess anything's possible

Inb4 it's wordy because she raps

I'd love to get more angry songs, but I'd rather have Drew to stay away from her
No. More. Raw. Vocals. You can still make a point without the "rawness/messiness".

I get the feeling she's been very inspired by Honeymoon lately. The last post on her main was from the HBTB music video, she returned on her Honeymoon account, she sang God Knows I've Tried in Italy (she did also sing BTD songs, but only with fans, this was the one time we know of where she chose one song to sing of her own accord), and she mentioned Honeymoon several times in the W Mag interview. Not sure what this means/how it relates to her new sound or lyrics, but those are my thoughts.

my heart wouldnt have been able to take a controversial album… we dont need anymore controversy  especially when all the hate is old news at this point

Oh the album is conversational not controversial

i feel like honeymoon's production, if lyrical content, must influence this album as she seems to be thinking about that album a lot recently. and i'm really excited about this meditative automatic singing and writing style - i just know she's going to whisk us away

from reading the mag, i fear this could be the longest pre-release thread in lanaboards existence but i hope i'm proven wrong

    anyways, happy pre-release era, besties!

i just took it as a new style of writing now that she’s kind of matured and is more reflective on her life now. i can definitely see what youre saying though and i do miss the creative lyrics and story telling she did before her writers block. her lyrics have been very blunt and “im saying exactly what i mean” lately which im not the biggest fan of.

This is the saddest part of the interview for me tbh. I know she talked about having writers block after LFL and before Norman but it’s so sad she still seems to be in that place

    Welcome back LDR.

Also I laughed when the caption called this “Valentino gown”. That’s a blanket pls.

    GORGEOUS IM OBSESSED

however “It’s a very wordy album. So there’s no room for color. It’s almost like I’m typing in my mind” has me 😭
looks like we’ll be getting more bb/tb/ww lyricism rather than classic lana lyricism, a personal loss, but i’m still excited
i wonder when this interview was done though, we know she changes her mind a lot, and she’s also been working with jack quite a bit recently and he wasn’t mentioned at all

also living for the swan song love in this thread  best song on hm yup yup yup
