She said it herself on ig, the reviews aren't supposed to be good! This is NFR, if NFR had imperfections and cracks because THAT'S HOW THE LIGHT GETS IN (tm) the girls who get it, get it and the girls who don't, DON'T. The first half of the album is her spilling her guts out about her fear of dying alone, being forgotten, losing her family, losing at love, finding herself to be the AMERICAN WHORE at 33 over wacky piano ballads and trippy interludes. She knew this was going to be too much for the basic BITCHES of Slant magazine or whatever... so as a result, the closing act of the album has her embracing her confidence, feeling sexy, addressing concerns that she was manufactured by a team, and finally reminds them that she knows they hate her.

Anyway, all this to say an 80 on MC is excellent critical acclaim iktr

I'll write it here too. I love the story she's telling with these city names belonging to a different country

    Paris, Texas
    Florence, Alabama
    Venice, California

in a song where she questions if she belongs to that place or not

Most American cities were founded in the 18th or 19th centuries by immigrants from Europe. They chose names that reminded them of their home. She uses these city names that belong somewhere in parallel to her feeling of not belonging to somewhere and her quest to find her home.

I like the idea of a third party perspective on a relationship of someone who means a lot to her.

Giving me Last American Dynasty storytelling vibes

I think Margaret will be a serve.

I think its definitely a "shake up" track, it really pulls you out of the record for a moment. The sermon is AGGRESSIVE and has passion behind it. I don't necessarily think she's taking it completely serious (I mean with all the giggling lol), but for me, I see it tying into a reoocuring theme of being content with what you have, putting a focus on the real beauty of life (the simplier things like just being in good company), and also self-reflection. Realizing that so much of what you preach to others has so much more to do with you and your world view.

Or she just being quirky lol who knows 🤐

i love this interlude lol it made me laugh when lana giggled at him and repeated “rhino designer”. the interludes add so much to the album as a whole, there’s a strong atmosphere. plus there’s something to think about with the song before this having the lyrics “this is the experience of being an american whore” and “god’s a charlatan”

It’s very pretty. Feels more like singing poetry over music than a proper structured song.

I see why this song is right after Kintsugi. She shows all her cracks and pours her trauma, and then the second “joyful” side of the album starts.

I can't wait to hear the diff interpretations on this lyric, of course they can already be made but imo it always works best when you've heard the song in full.. when you know whatever comes before/after & what the general theme is. I'm sure Fingertips alone will have a loooooot to be unpacked.

Probably a complete reach but my first thought was of her in her teens running her fingers over bags of drugs? Don’t drag me, I’m no lyrical mastermind, it’s just where my mind first went
