I don't know if any of you have discussed that but like 4 years ago I saw some people talking about it on YouTube that Lana sampled Princess Chelsea's No Church On Sunday in Heroin! (it's kind of a subtle sample like how she sampled The Beatles in West Coast)

And I listened to the album where No Church On Sunday is from, called The Great Cybernetic Depression (released in 2015) and the album's songs have the same spacey cosmic electronic ambient vibes as the so-called "original concept of Lust For Life", similar to the songs like Heroin, Lust For Life demo, If I Die Young (I know that it's a Honeymoon outtake).

Although The Great Cybernetic Depression is a lot more quirkier (it's kinda like if early era Marina Diamandis made the original concept of LFL herself or something like that). But I can see that Lana was definitely inspired from that album when she sampled for Heroin!

Also I have read some theories on No Church On Sunday song, that it talks about her brother's drug overdose (although I don't think so because I think that it's a misheard lyric), but it would connect this song and Heroin a lot more.

Lanz said on a interview w Complex that she had an idea- an afterthought additional newer record for Ultra (like how paradise is the afterthought of btd) but that was it. But she did say about Honeymoon how she never imagined it manifested into a full LP since it was originally an EP or such

That’s what I thought as well. From the beginning I’m quiet sure there isn’t really an aesthetic/environment pinpointing towards a witchy approach among the record. Moreover simply- retrofuturistic. But I do believe the songs started to be more grounded and peaceful in nature story/lyric wise (once again- not the sound)

Could you imagine if Emile had his hands on Video Games… or maybe there’s a version of Video Games with him but he done it for fun? Who knows

but where did he say not all who wander are lost was specifically one of the quieter songs they worked on during the norman sessions? while some songs from chemtrails seemed to come from the norman sessions, clearly the whole album wasn't written then and not all who wander are lost lyrically seems like something she wrote later about her relationship with sean unless there's a demo from those sessions that has completely different lyrics.

    Thank you!
I am always so consumed by the Ultraviolence timeline, I never have the time to look into my FAVOURITE album's creation. Honeymoon just seems too untouchable to me, but I will always want to know more.

Not really 😭 other than the fact that Rick Rubin produced a rock version of Body Electric while he was working on Ride

    Recorded September 2017, after LFL

It really depends how the individual would define a "witchy" sound, but the original vision she had in mind was definitely seemed more conceptual with space/cosmic undertones and 80s lynchian inspiration including a large atmosphere.

I feel like this can really be seen in the Love music video, LFL trailer and songs like Beautiful People (Demo 2), 13 Beaches, Lust For Life (demo 1-3),  Groupie Love (demo), Poetry In Motion, If I Die Young (counting it), Serene Queen, and Get Free which all have super clear elements of this cosmic sound. Somewhere along the process she became more inspired by woodstock hippie culture and wanted to incorprate beats and I feel like that's where it really changed.

I do think that the idea of the original album having these tracks on it with this sound is a myth however... seemed a lot more like a idea that was being worked on then later combined with more elements she took inspo from ex. woodstock and politics. That's just my theory at least.

I love the outtakes like Architecture and Yosemite and I'm very sure that Poetry In Motion and Everything I Do and Silverlake sound amazing too but I wouldn't replace any song from LFL. I love all the songs so much although I have hard time connecting with Groupie Love. But I really can't imagine the tracklist being different. It all makes sense for me. All the songs there have some kind of point (I posted about it in LFL's post-release thread). I mean I understand people who hate hip hop songs like the Rocky songs but still

She’s always talked about how paradise is miles better than born to die will ever be around the release of paradise. “I didn’t want to send my songs to be added w awful beats” she commented of paradise’s production (why it’s less pop-sounded than btd) on les inrock nov 2012 issue

I wonder if an early Norman album concept with production handled by Rick (bartender, happiness is a butterfly). Also is it safe to say that I think happiness is a 2017 song/same session w bartender so there must be a demo solely produced by rick?

Interesting idea but I do believe it’s originally and is a Jack track… Elle has broken down the theory of the song and Cinnamon Girl’s background (early Oct 2018)

Finally… one for Lust for Life. Some people still relentlessly tried digging tropico when that is all there is.

I agree 💯! Just like you said, the supposed witchiness vibes come the trailer and her posts about hexing Trump. But other than that, I’m really not sure it even was a thing. Of course, we have some dark songs from that era that can channel witchy vibes in a way (Heroin, Serene Queen) but they also can be associated with the spacey-retro futuristic vibes.

a lot happened in those two years creating this album, which changed the direction of it a lot.

one thing is for sure though: she did say that she sat down early on with interscope to decide what the first two singles would be (my guess is that they wanted a bigger commercial success than HM).
