I find the instrumental incredible in Jon batiste interlude.. and I love the way she sings honeyyyy.. I just wish she’d worked more with that sound for an actual track

I haven’t made a ranking of the songs yet, find it so difficult, but the JB interlude would come above some songs for sure

edit: it’s giving porcelain- moby, just a song that makes you feel a certain way

Because of the lyrics and melody moving the song along, I agree with the comment on youtube:
after the comments about girls losing their innocence prematurely.
Is it because you are streaming? Lana made this for me with my sensitive hearing. Can't listen to mainstream pop with its heavy production. Lana Del Rey on the bleeding edge of sonic exploration, going quieter. Sorry of your jumpscare, tho!
Thanx for your observation! Did anyone notice the "death spiral" on The Grants: "but . . . but?" Gerschwin's My Man's Gone Now as interpreted by Sarah Vaughen has several is an aria with the voice doing the death spiral in several places, no lyrics, just pure emotion over the grief of a dead loved one. Cannot believe, with this album, and what you said about the voice, putting Sarah Vaughan and Lana Del Rey in the same sentence? Oldster like me understands the significance . . . but I'm hearing it on DYKTTATUOB!!! Put your opera ears on. I timestamped it to start at the first vocal death spiral.
You are bold to voice your opinion, which I read with interest. It is valid!
I do not trust streaming! Perhaps Spotify cannot get the compression right on a delicate production like this! But it sounds good on PC listening to mp3s on my headphones, left ear only, because of damage in my right ear that distorts sounds.
Haven't heard the entirety of Folklore, only Cardigan, but am tickled for Lana's sense of humor to write a Taylor-esque song, if what you said is true. That is why I enjoy Lanaboards so much! It is another love tribute to Jack Antonoff. Taylor's bonus track on 1989 is called, "You're in Love" is tribute to Lena Dunham and Jack Antonoff, with lyrics that read:
    Lena Dunham tweeted,

IMO, Lana is entitled to appropriate from Taylor, imo, because Taylor draws major "inspo" from Lana . . . so much I used to feel indignant in Lana's behalf! At least Taylor credits Lana. Not like others who steal and DO NOT credit.
In these apocolyptic times, a dying breed, like from the hippie dippy love generation flower children? 1967 was the summer of love, Vietnam protests and civil rights.
Suicidal. Lana is not allowed to say it. Guardian UK burned Lana for making an off-hand joke about joining Morrison, Hendrix, Joplin, and Winehouse when Lana was also aged 27.  After Lana trusted the interviewer, he turned the off-the-cuff wry observation into a headline . . . for which Lana it seems did not forgive The Guardian . . . and granted no more interviews, as far as I can tell. Guardian did reviews and think pieces about Lana Del Rey since, but no exclusives . . .
It's you the fans who keep Lana from doing the unthinkable, imo. Like the Japan idols venerated around the world, Lana is so influential, her taking the easy way out would result in a domino effect of copycats. I am sure Lana has had low points, as her recent works infer, but she dismisses the thought, because of you. It is not just about her, I am certain . . .
RollingStone put Video Games at the top, and rated Heroin the bottom? I have nothing against Video Games, but there are so many great Lana songs even from that era that outshine it frankly, to me! People love Video Games. I do not want to take that away from them!
I would much rather read the reviews here because the fans are educated at least, even if your opinions differ from mine! You study your subject. It is much more illluminating to get the feedback from you, even if I do not agree. Mostly I agree, though.
About Heroin being bottom. The journalists get it wrong!
Not with the album, but I did catch up on the last 50 pages of this thread today . . . Like I said, above, your opinions so much more captivating than anything out there. Not even reading the reviews. They just do not know.
Structure, melody, instrumentals. It is a real song!
I skipped JS interlude, but am interested in the tea about Sean disrespecting Lana.  It is the crux of songs from Chemtrails on. Why why why why why did Sean walk away, when he had Lana? It must go deep, the climate at the time, the anti cop sentiment, protests over cop abuse, perhaps feeling like Sean's loyalty to his badge was tested for dating Lana? If I had a life, it wouldn't concern me, I suppose. But Lana' music speaks to me so much, I suffer, too. I felt violated when Chuck was robbed of digiatal photos, etc. let alone the recent car breakin Lana made public. It hurt.

fingertips is now my favourite track on the album. it took me two weeks to find my way into it but when it clicked, it fucking clicked.
the melody of "exotic places and people" has been spinning in my head for five days. I can't help but imagine if the vocals were recorded with quality mics and there was a little more instrumentation, maybe hints of ocean sounds when she talks about the waves/drowning herself etc. but overall its an incredible track.

really goes to show sometimes you just have to sit with art before forming an opinion and your first impression (while important) isn't always correct.

I know people see it as a stream-of-consciousness poem that she put music to, but to me it feels like an opera. Like imagine an opera singer on stage singing it with classical strings, on a stage like this:

It's kinda giving if someone asked Taylor Swift to write a Lana Del Rey song but IDWG outsold I fear

    He don’t like no spotlight
He the kinda man, stand real quiet
He don’t wanna go, go home
He don’t wanna go, go home

He’s a sweet baby, but he looks mean
In his soft leather, and his blue jeans
    He don’t wanna go, go
He don’t wanna go, go, go

You are just an American boy, you got your youth and you got your dreams
You ride your Harley like there’s nothing to lose, you got the wind, but you’re not free

& you don’t wanna go, go home
I don’t wanna go, go home
We don’t wanna go, go home
    Baby tonight
    Baby tonight

He don’t like no small things
He be riding round on some tall dreams
He don’t wanna go, go home
He don’t wanna go, go home

    Hollywood sun, small town things
Probably he’s changed, that’s why he drinks
He don’t wanna go, go home
He don’t wanna go, go home

He was just an American kid, liked rock & roll and wanted to have fun
He felt the same way all of us did like probably he was the only one

& you don’t wanna go, go home
I won’t wanna go, go home
We won’t wanna go, go home
    Baby tonight
    Baby tonight

I was just an American girl, I was reaching for the sun
I never really had big dreams when I saw you, were my only one
    & I don’t wanna go, go home
I don’t wanna go, go home
    Baby tonight
    Baby tonight
    Baby tonight
    Baby tonight

I don't really want to die
I just want the pain to be over
I know that I talked about it all the time, babe
Just wanted you to come over
    I got tired of America
It got hard to stay sober
Then I met you and you blew my mind
    That was it, game over

We can get lost in the purple rain
Talk about the good old days
I could get drunk on some pink champagne
    Lost in the purple haze

Let me love you like a woman
Let me hold you like a baby
Let me shine like a diamond
Let me be your one time beauty queen

You don't know the world like I do
You don't know how good our love can be
Let me love you like a woman
Let me take you to infinity
    Ah, baby, ah
    Take you to infinity
    Ah, baby, ah

I don't really want to fly
I just want this tour to be over
I know that I dreamed about it all my life
    Then the dream got closer
I miss the smell of America
    Green palms, green clover
I can still feel it when I close my eyes
    It comes right over

We can get lost in a purple maze
Think about the good old times
Let it come down like the ocean waves
Hold your body in my mind

Let me love you like a woman
Let me hold you like a baby
Let me shine like a diamond
Let me be your one time beauty queen

You don't know the world like I do
You don't know how good people can be
Let me love you like a woman
Let me take you to infinity
    Ah, baby, ah
    Take you to infinity
    Ah, baby, ah

    I n-n-n-need you
    Don't, don't fucking leave yet
    I need, n-n-n-need you
Don't fu-, don't fucking leave yet

Let me love you like a woman
Let me love you like a baby
Let me shine like a diamond
Let me be your one time beauty queen

You don't know the world like I do
You don't know how good people can be

maybe the stuff in judah smith interlude about doing the right things as a father, partner, etc. is lana taking a dig at sean... especially after a&w. like he disrespected her to the extreme AND whoever he was engaged too.

imo, i don't think any tracks need to be removed (except maybe the interlude), i just think the tracklist needed to be rearranged bc sweet, ocean blvd, and kintsugi are very necessary songs
it would be hard to have smooth transitions from upbeat songs to soft piano songs but I'm sure they could have made it work

now i gotta go to the tracklist rearranging thread and see if it actually IS possible

BB has her lowest lows?? Where?

And about COCCs length: The fact that COCC is basically her ONLY album that you have to change the vinyl only once to listen as a whole is actually really perfect. It's incredibly tiring to switch vinyl sides after basically 3 songs. What songs on that one are fillers to you?
