WW is the saddest song she’s ever written and god it’s not like she’s ever really written happy music. However its not a downer because lana has always had an inner radiance that illuminates the darkness. The music is cathartic rather than depressive. She’s not afraid to delve into the shadow of society, and that’s why she’s never been the darling of the general public and also why she’s so precious to us. I can easily say Id probably be dead right now if I hadn’t given her music a fair listen, that’s terrifying and powerful and beautiful. I think the full album will be an actual triumph. End Rant

I guess she will have her revenge by singing about the topics critics always bring up. So far we had:
    - „Daddy issues“
    - Black live matters
    - Glamorizing abuse

    What might follow next:
    - QFTC
    - Not not being a feminist

Which controversies are left? I wish I was dead already? I hope she won‘t sing about the mesh mask

Edit: I forgot her people discovering their existential crisis because of the pandemic story

maybe it's all part of telling her story and the next batch of singles will tell another part. all three of the songs connect i think with text book and wildflower wildfire addressing the relationship she had with both her father and mother then in blue banisters she's letting us know she found comfort in her girlfriends that she didn't have with her family.

OK a couple thoughts about the release of the album -

    1. The use of the term “buzz singles” in the press release is probably the same thing as NFR. I remember when MAC, VB, and Hope were referred to as “buzz singles” and it sent everyone into a frenzy about whether or not they’d be on the album, and they of course ended up on the record so I think these 3 tracks are going to be on the album and the term “buzz single” is probably used very loosely.

    2. A few days ago, one of the ATRL insiders (I think @/issgoulding) said that the album is out in less than 2 months ( @Nikogo posted it pages ago <3). People knew two weeks ago that the singles would come out this week so I imagine that they would also know when the album was coming, especially since they have the songs.

I really think and hope July 4th will happen, or at least the album will be released this summer.

I love all the songs for their own reasons

    BUT

the sheer ambiance of TB is everything I’ve wanted back in a Lana song

WW’s last minute and a half is MAGNIFICENT. Those background vocals that swim around the whole ending really help you feel her urgency and desperation

BB took me by surprise, the storytelling is unlike she’s ever done

She really did THAT and I’m more impatient for the album than I already was. I also think I’m more excited than I was for Chemtrails

I’m a little late joining in on the discussion of her new singles, but..

I’m almost entirely sure this will be her most intimate record to date; lyrically, she outdid herself. I could be wrong, but her vocals seem so much stronger than they were in NFR and COCC—very forward and jazzy at times, reminding me a bit of her singing from Born To Die up until Honeymoon.

Melodically, BB has the most replay value for me, but WW arguably has the best lyrics. Text Book is so vulnerable, and she manages to keep it interesting with a really strong narrative.

I found it sad but very effective in the way she tied the disappointment with her father’s inaction in WW to the desire for a father-like lover that would “have [her] back” in TB. While I was anticipating a wild change in her musical genre, I think she’s making such meaningful and expertly crafted art and am excited to see what’s next!

I hate being that person, but as Lana gets older, as it is with most artists who take themselves seriously, I very much doubt you'll be getting "bops" anymore.

It's more than okay to say that you've outgrown or have become disinterested in someone. It's life, it happens

I think I lowkey understand what Lana meant by "revenge" on this album. She seems to be giving a background story to her personality/songwriting style, explaining why she is the way she is. Something she failed to in the past (Annie interview, or even her Instagram posts, etc.)

I might be wrong, and I don't want to make assumptions. But Lana explaining her tough relationship with her mother makes so much sense, in my opinion, and are a reason why to her songs about "domestic abuse" and "toxic relationships". If that's all she's known when growing up... I can see her being drawn to, once she was older. For her, that seemed "normal", even though she knew it was wrong and would hurt her.

Those are her experiences, something she already said multiple times, but never fully developed. But now she is, in form of lyrically deep haunting melodies, and it's helping her heal

I think we're definitely in for a ride with this new record, and we will hear many more personal stories

Ok I have finally been able to listen to the three songs with headphones, and read the lyrics, and here are my two cents for this album so far:

Blue Banisters seems like the continuity of Chemtrails, its yang side. It’s Violet X Chemtrails X Norman. This explains why she wants to put it out rapidly, since it’s the follow-up to Chemtrails.
Both Chemtrails and Bb remind me of Taylor’s folklore and evermore. Evermore is way more personal than Folklore, and the second one is more « experimental » at moments than Folklore. I expect a bit of « experimentation » with the other songs of this album as well. and she really is telling her story and this could be her sweet revenge.

I don’t know how her team feels about a Grammy submission but if it’s on the table, the album should be out before the end of summer.

The production of the three songs is still a bit « minimal » but the way the structure of the songs shifts is closer to what we got with Norman and that I loved (that’s my biggest problem with Chemtrails: the melodies are too simple, not really shifting from chorus to verses).

Blue Banisters is Lana at the peak of her songwriting. The narration is simply superb. And the way she thinks about her new man and the music becomes so dreamy  And when she eludes later that it didn’t work out  Also love how it begins similarly to Chemtrails (by the way, both album titles are so beautifully poetic, put side to side).

Text Book has an incredible story as well. It’s really « Daddy issues » Lana acknowledging it. The melody is a bit harder to follow, but I’m loving it more with each listen.

Wildflower Wildfire is so beautiful in its vulnerability. I only wished that the last minute of the production began earlier in the song.

If there’s a cover for this album, there’s a high probability it could be a Joan Baez one, since she referenced her at least twice already (Dance Til We Die and Bb).

Wow the whole time I was listening to these I kept thinking of her old songs and how much she’s evolved as an artist. I’m so interested to see what the unreleased song she reworked for this album is! I feel like these tracks make the rest of her discography seem so much more pop than before.

I'm obsessed with the way she says "it's strange but it's true DARLING" in WW. She rarely uses that voice and I always loved how it sounds sooo much.

Wildflower Wildfire is my favorite out of the three for sure, and it's continuing to grow on me even more.

"Here's the deal... cAuSe I kNoW yOu WaNt To TaLk aBoUt It"
The whole pre-chorus lyrics make me feel emotional, and then "HOT fire, HOT weather, HOT coffee"

The voice crack in "it's truUUE, darlin'"

And then the ending whispering and background vocals of the chorus "like the others, baby, burns, buurnnsss, buuurrnnnss"

    SO GOOD.

the way i'm casually crying to these songs
They really struck a chord at some emotions i've been covering, but not processing. Especially in regards to my parents and my life not turning out the way I intended.
