Despite the mixed review for PD, American Teenager is pitchfork’s 11th best song of the year:

“Ethel Cain approaches her music as a sound designer as much as a songwriter, eschewing conventional structure for marginal vibrations and layered sensations, which makes an arena-ready pop anthem like “American Teenager” something of a revelation. On a lost highway turnoff somewhere between Bruce Springsteen and Brandon Flowers, Ethel rides a sepia-tinged carousel of all-American imagery: tears under the bleachers, wasted nights gone wrong, and forlorn prayers to Jesus. While her songs are frequently extended epics, somewhere between slowcore and chopped & screwed choral music, “American Teenager” is immediate and succinct, but not any less careful in its construction. –Nadine Smith”

while every lana album is very different to me, they also all feel like a natural progression from the previous one and reminiscent of the album that came before it. because of that, i’ve been expecting LDR9 to be a more refined and intentional Blue Banisters (which felt very unrealized to me but still had a lot of potential); more horns, more strings, more heavy percussion, more of the weird time signature and tempo changes like in Black Bathing Suit and Text Book. i’ve been expecting almost a more orchestral/less bare take on Fetch the Bolt Cutters honestly, that’s what naturally feels next for her. i’m so excited

im really interested in how lana can do something “unlike anything we’ve heard before”, because i do feel like she has explored and dipped her toes in every art pop sound besides like electronic which i do not think is happening lol

I simply can't believe that they asked Lana no interesting questions. They could have asked her anything.

they asked what her favorite song at the moment is, nothing about songs on the upcoming album

I thought what was reported was that a reporter or someone in the crowd asked LDR what her favorite song was, and she said, 'Coconut by Harry Nilsson," not that the question was "what is your favorite song on the new album?", and 'Coconut, by Harry Nilsson," was her answer.

    Can anyone clarify?

If 'Coconut' is on the album, a song I loathe in the original, does this suggest the 'Standards & Classics' album?

When I think of 'Standards & Classics,' I don't think of 'Rocky Mountain High' or 'Coconut,' I think of pre-1965 songs 'Ebb Tide,' 'How Deep Is the Ocean?,' 'Skylark,' 'The Shadow of Your Smile,' 'Love Is A Many Splendored Thing,' 'The Good Life.'

Gently reminder that Neil was in charge of COCC shoot too and we ended up with the fuglyest cover of her career

she basically recreated the btd after 3 projects, it’s been 3 projects since lfl, what if she’s actually putting roses in her hair

Listen People. The Neil Krug m night Shyamalan farm girl aesthetic is camp. I love my tractor girl and my farm girl. The impact! of these records side by side….

plus I’m a little bias because the chemtrails alt cover will forever remind me of KANSAS

I've said it before, I'll say it again. The back picture would've made a more interesting cover than the actual cover. This era feels like a fever dream.

I think we're gonna get something good this era, Neil was very involved with the visuals for the BB and they were nice, maybe not on par with Honeymoon or Ultraviolence, but nice nonetheless.

Here is what they said last night about LDR9/X:

I've explained this but again. some elements
strings. Do u like violin, cello?
    dark lyricism
60s influenced psychedelic guitar black and white glamour.
all of u are going to have a heart attack

They also listed off songs like UV, Cruel World, VB, MAC, MTWBT, Freak, WC as similar sounding to the new album. Obviously sounds like an absolute dream….maybe too good to be true?
