I take it as her talking about someone with a strong social presence but one that is simultaneously an illusion since she got to know the person in an intimate way only to discover this "persona" the other person exudes in front of others (friends, acquaintances, maybe even lovers) is just a facade - only she knows who he's like when the party ends and all he has left is what exists besides the superficiality. That's why she knows he'll eventually leave: he can't commit to emotional intimacy because he'll always depend on veering in between party scenes and vapid interactions. At this point there's resignation from her because she's tired of this and also used to the feeling of seeing a loved one leave her for something she could (and probably did) give even though he's not willing to receive or reciprocate.
 
It's a simple song lyrically and very economic but every word packs so much meaning and feeling behind it that you can't help but picture a broader, bigger picture of what's behind their story. It's truly one of her best songs ever.

Hmm maybe she realized the persona she created is the source of the burden she's been carrying. It would make sense for this album to be a severe deconstruction of Lana the persona, as Elizabeth the person takes her place. A fully realized human being.
